Cannon Hi4-T PHEV Details
Advanced PHEV technology
The Cannon Hi4-T combines advanced PHEV technology, performance, electric driving range, off-road capability and towing capacity, making advanced electrification more accessible to Australian Ute buyers while delivering exceptional value in the dual-cab segment.
At the heart of the Cannon Hi4-T is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine working with GWM’s proprietary Hi4-T intelligent hybrid technology, combining petrol and electric power to deliver strong performance while retaining the capability expected of a body-on-frame 4×4.
The result is a PHEV Ute that delivers:
- 310kW of combined power and 750Nm of combined torque
- Up to 115km of electric-only driving range (NEDC)^
- 3,500kg braked towing capacity
- True 4WD capability, combining mechanical 4WD hardware with electric assistance
Developed specifically for body-on-frame 4×4 vehicles, the Hi4-T system integrates electric drive technology with a conventional mechanical transmission and 4WD system. This approach delivers the benefits of plug-in hybrid driving while retaining the robust mechanical 4WD capability required for towing, touring and off-road driving.
It is this combination of electrified performance and genuine 4WD capability that sets the Cannon Hi4-T apart, giving Australian Ute buyers the opportunity to embrace plug-in hybrid technology without compromising the capability expected of a genuine 4WD Ute.
Model range
Starting at $49,990 driveaway for ABN buyers ($47,990 with the $2000 driveaway bonus) or $1000 more for private buyers, the Cannon Hi4-T PHEV Lux provides an accessible entry point to GWM’s advanced powertrain technology and a compelling combination of electric driving capability, performance and everyday practicality.
Stepping up to the Cannon Hi4-T PHEV Ultra, priced from $53,990 driveaway for ABN buyers ($51,990 with the $2000 driveaway bonus) or $1000 more for private buyers, customers gain additional equipment and features for greater levels of comfort, technology and convenience. Full features and specs listed at the end of this document.
Complementing the larger, premium Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV, the Cannon Hi4-T PHEV expands GWM’s electrified Ute offering to two distinct plug-in hybrid models in Australia, giving customers greater choice across different price points and lifestyle needs.
GWM is currently the only automotive manufacturer in Australia to offer two PHEV Ute models.
Buyer Genuine Choice
“GWM is taking a very deliberate approach to building a Ute range that gives Australian customers genuine choice, rather than asking them to compromise around a single powertrain or specification,” said GWM Australia Chief Operating Officer John Kett.
“The Cannon Hi4-T PHEV is an important part of that strategy. It gives us a second PHEV Ute with a distinct proposition, complementing the Cannon Alpha while broadening the choice available to customers. Alongside the arrival of our new-generation 3.0-litre diesel, it demonstrates that GWM is prepared to invest across different technologies and segments to meet the changing needs of Australian drivers.”
“We are continuing to challenge the established approach to the Ute market by bringing more technology, capability and choice to customers, and we see this as an important part of GWM’s growth in Australia.”
“With the Cannon Hi4-T, it really is a case of Australia’s most versatile plug-in hybrid Ute joining Australia’s most versatile Ute range.”
Electric driving for the week, petrol power for the weekend
Australian Ute buyers have long been asked to compromise between electric efficiency for everyday driving and the flexibility required for longer journeys. GWM believes those compromises are no longer necessary.
A large 33.1kWh battery provides the Cannon Hi4-T with a class-leading electric-only driving range of up to 115km^ (NEDC), giving many owners the ability to complete their everyday commute and local driving using electric power alone. The result is a smooth, quiet driving experience with the immediate response and instant torque of electric propulsion.
For longer journeys, the plug-in hybrid architecture provides the flexibility to switch seamlessly between electric and petrol power, without requiring owners to plan their trips around charging infrastructure. When charging is required, the Cannon Hi4-T supports DC fast charging at up to 110kW, with the battery able to charge from 30 to 80 per cent in as little as 18 minutes.
When the road stretches beyond the city, the petrol engine extends the vehicle’s range, with the Cannon Hi4-T capable of travelling up to 1,037km on a single tank and charge.
Combined with fuel consumption of just 2.4L/100km^, the Cannon Hi4-T delivers the benefits of electrification for everyday driving while retaining the range and flexibility expected from a capable four-wheel-drive Ute.
Electrification and capability paired
GWM’s proprietary Hi4-T system retains a traditional mechanical four-wheel drive architecture, providing the foundations for genuine off-road performance and the confidence required for long-distance touring and towing.
With a 3,500kg braked towing capacity, the Cannon Hi4-T PHEV is designed to transition effortlessly from weekday commuting to weekend adventures, towing duties and extended touring.
Quiet electric driving, instant torque and significantly reduced fuel consumption, while the plug-in hybrid architecture means owners can continue long-distance journeys without relying solely on charging infrastructure.
The combination of electric driving capability, high-output performance and traditional four-wheel drive engineering gives the Cannon Hi4-T the versatility to operate across a broad range of Australian driving conditions.
Power when and where it’s needed
The Cannon Hi4-T’s versatility extends beyond its ability to drive on electric power.
Integrated Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, including 230V power outlets in the tub, provides up to 6kW of discharge power, allowing the vehicle to operate as a mobile power source for a wide range of applications.
From powering tools on a worksite to running camping equipment or appliances while off-grid, the Cannon Hi4-T provides practical access to high-output onboard electrical power wherever it is needed.
Distinctive styling as standard
Both Cannon Hi4-T PHEV grades will feature GWM’s distinctive black exterior treatment, reflecting Australian customer tastes for a more assertive and purposeful Ute design while carrying styling cues established across the broader Cannon range.
The treatment mirrors the distinctive exterior DNA of the Cannon Alpha PHEV, with a black sports bar, matte black front grille, matte black exterior door handles, matte black mirror covers and black side steps, complemented by 18-inch black alloy wheels and red brake calipers.
The cohesive treatment gives the Cannon Hi4-T a more assertive road presence, while creating a clear visual connection with the wider Cannon family and its premium electrified flagship, the Cannon Alpha PHEV.
Next-generation infotainment
The Cannon Hi4-T introduces a new level of in-cabin technology for GWM, becoming the first GWM vehicle in Australia to feature a 15.6-inch full-colour high-definition touchscreen powered by Coffee OS.
The large-format display provides an intuitive interface for accessing key vehicle functions, entertainment and connectivity, while Coffee OS supports over-the-air software updates, allowing GWM to remotely introduce software improvements, new functionality and system updates throughout the ownership journey.
This means the Cannon Hi4-T’s digital experience can continue to evolve well beyond the point of purchase.
Availability
The all-new GWM Cannon Hi4-T PHEV is expected to arrive at GWM dealerships across Australia from mid-October 2026, with customer pre-orders now open.
Customers are encouraged to contact their local GWM dealer to secure their preferred Cannon Hi4-T grade ahead of vehicle arrivals.
