<li>Bridgestone has been recognized for leadership in corporate transparency and performance on climate change by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its annual ‘A List’.</li>
<li>Being included in the ‘A List’ is a strong recognition of Bridgestone’s environmental actions and progress towards its long-term environmental vision of contributing toward carbon neutrality.</li>
<li>These initiatives align with the “Bridgestone E8 Commitment” which accelerates the company’s transformation to a Sustainable Solutions Company.</li>
</ul>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-32901" src="https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/802476.png" alt="" width="1200" height="1200" srcset="https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/802476.png 1200w, https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/802476-300x300.png 300w, https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/802476-150x150.png 150w, https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/802476-768x768.png 768w, https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/802476-65x65.png 65w, https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/802476-60x60.png 60w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 804px" /></p>
<p>Bridgestone strives to contribute to a realization of carbon neutrality across its value chain. The Group’s efforts include acquisition of SBT (Science Based Targets) certification and increasing use of renewable energy, which we believe have led to the selections of ‘A List’. In 2023, the Group has acquired SBT certification for its medium-term CO2 emissions reduction target for 2030 (Scope 1, 2 and Scope 3) *3. The Group also has been transitioning to renewable energy sources for purchased electricity globally*4 and installing solar power generation system in its plants*5. With a guiding framework “Bridgestone E8 Commitment” *6, Bridgestone commits to realizing sustainable society by co-creating value together with society, partners and customers while integrating sustainability and business*7.</p>

<ol>
<li>CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions. Founded in 2000 and working with more than 740 financial institutions with over $136 trillion in assets, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests.</li>
<li>Over 24,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2023, with more than 23,000 companies – including listed companies worth two thirds global market capitalization &#8211; and over 1,100 cities, states and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy. CDP is a founding member of the Science Based Targets initiative, We Mean Business Coalition, The Investor Agenda and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative.</li>

<h3>Bridgestone Group</h3>
<p style="padding-left: 40px;">7. The Bridgestone Group established its corporate commitment, the “Bridgestone E8 Commitment,” to help it realize its vision: “Toward 2050, Bridgestone continues to provide social value and customer value as a sustainable solutions company.” This commitment will serve as the Group’s axis to drive management while earning the trust of future generations. The “Bridgestone E8 Commitment” consists of eight uniquely Bridgestone values starting with the letter “E” (Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion, Ease, and Empowerment) that the Group will commit to creating through distinctly Bridgestone purposes and processes, together with employees, society, partners, and customers to help realize a sustainable society. <a class="HyperlinkHoverStyle" href="https://www.bridgestone.com/corporate/news/pdf/2022030101.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://www.bridgestone.com/corporate/news/pdf/2022030101.pdf</a></p>

<p>In findings based on satellite observations, CSIRO, in collaboration with the Australian National University (ANU), found that this CO2 fertilisation correlated with an 11 per cent increase in foliage cover from 1982-2010 across parts of the arid areas studied in Australia, North America, the Middle East and Africa, according to CSIRO research scientist, Dr Randall Donohue.</p>
<p>&#8220;In Australia, our native vegetation is superbly adapted to surviving in arid environments and it consequently uses water very efficiently,&#8221; Dr Donohue said. &#8220;Australian vegetation seems quite sensitive to CO2 fertilisation.</p>
<p>This, along with the vast extents of arid landscapes, means Australia featured prominently in our results.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;While a CO2 effect on foliage response has long been speculated, until now it has been difficult to demonstrate,&#8221; according to Dr Donohue.</p>
<p>&#8220;Our work was able to tease-out the CO2 fertilisation effect by using mathematical modelling together with satellite data adjusted to take out the observed effects of other influences such as precipitation, air temperature, the amount of light, and land-use changes.&#8221;</p>
<h3>CO2 and photosynthesis</h3>
<p>The fertilisation effect occurs where elevated CO2 enables a leaf during photosynthesis, the process by which green plants convert sunlight into sugar, to extract more carbon from the air or lose less water to the air, or both.</p>
<p>If elevated CO2 causes the water use of individual leaves to drop, plants in arid environments will respond by increasing their total numbers of leaves. These changes in leaf cover can be detected by satellite, particularly in deserts and savannas where the cover is less complete than in wet locations, according to Dr Donohue.</p>
<p>&#8220;On the face of it, elevated CO2 boosting the foliage in dry country is good news and could assist forestry and agriculture in such areas; however there will be secondary effects that are likely to influence water availability, the carbon cycle, fire regimes and biodiversity, for example,&#8221; Dr Donohue said.</p>
<p>&#8220;Ongoing research is required if we are to fully comprehend the potential extent and severity of such secondary effects.&#8221;</p>
<p>This study was published in the US Geophysical Research Letters journal and was funded by CSIRO&#8217;s Sustainable Agriculture Flagship, Water for a Healthy Country Flagship, the Australian Research Council and Land &amp; Water Australia.</p>
