The e-hybrid and 4xe models will add to Jeep’s electrified portfolio and offer enhanced performance and driving dynamics while further representing the brand’s commitment to becoming the leader in sophisticated zero exhaust emission technologies.

The electric evolution of the Jeep brand fully reflects the company’s core values of freedom, adventure, authenticity and passion, the pillars of its reputation worldwide and will further enhance the legendary off-road capability of its line-up of SUVs.

The introduction of Jeep Compass e-Hybrid FWD and Compass 4xe in the first half 2024, will see the new models replacing the existing M6 Compass powertrain line up from Q4 2023 production.

The Jeep Compass e-Hybrid FWD and Compass 4xe will offer a new alternative in the segment while remaining true to the current model’s all-terrain vocation – with efficiency not being achieved at the expense of performance.

The ideal everyday driving car, Jeep Compass e-Hybrid FWD will ensure customers can keep their driving habits intact while enjoying an authentic hybrid driving experience, with full-electric propulsion available at start-up, when travelling at low speeds, cruising and in parking manoeuvres.

Thanks to the plug-in hybrid technology, the Jeep Compass 4xe features enhanced hybrid capability and performance, ensuring the best possible balance between efficiency, driving fun and attention to the environment. Jeep Compass 4xe is capable of everyday driving in the city as its hybrid plug-in technology allows for zero exhaust emission mobility and 50km* of city driving in full-electric mode. Moreover, fun becomes efficient on board the Jeep 4xe Compass and its proverbial off-road capability balances fun driving with the environment in mind.

Jeep EV Capabilities – Compass 4xe

Due to an array of electric operating modes known as “EV capabilities”, the new Jeep Compass e-Hybrid FWD and Compass 4xe will run in various driving scenarios using only the electric motor (and with the petrol engine turned off). These modes include:

• e-Launch: starts the vehicle using only the electric motor, when starting up or restarting at traffic lights;
• e-Creeping: the electric motor provides the start-up normally seen in automatic vehicles, at a speed that can vary from 0 km/h to the equivalent of the petrol engine idling in first gear, or in reverse (for example when maneuvering);
• e-Queueing: the vehicle can keep going in a traffic jam, following a ‘stop and go’ pattern in full-electric mode; and
• e-Parking: simplifies parking maneuvers, which can be carried out using electric propulsion only, to ensure a practical and quiet experience.

Jeep Compass hybrid models will deliver

Courtesy of new propulsion systems, the Jeep Compass hybrid models will deliver a versatile and relaxing driving experience, with various features allowing the vehicle to move in electric mode. These include:

• Silent Start: starts the vehicle with no need to turn on the petrol engine, by using an “EV” pure-electric, silent driving mode;
• Energy Recovery: recovers energy that would otherwise be wasted when the vehicle decelerates (e-Coasting) and during braking (Regenerative Braking);
• Boost and Load Point Shift: ‘e-Boosting’ allows an increase in torque to the wheels thanks to the electric motor that supports the petrol engine; moreover, by taking advantage of the (drive or braking) torque delivered by the electric motor, it is possible to optimise the operating point of the petrol engine; and
• Electric Drive: the vehicle can travel in silence and with zero exhaust emissions using only the electric motor, while the petrol engine is turned off.

All the above capabilities and features are available depending on battery charge status and the power output required.

All-terrain and all-weather capability translates into fun and safety and Avenger leads in the Light SUV segment in both respects. Foremost capability

A pure expression of “concentrated Freedom”, the Avenger offers Jeep’s trademark performance in a compact form to guarantee peace of mind in all atmospheric conditions. Agile, reactive, and enjoyable to drive, it offers dynamic performance levels thanks to its instant torque and stands out for its silence.

The new Avenger is the first front-wheel drive Jeep vehicle that features standard Selec-Terrain® and Hill Descent Control, which, together with the 200mm ground clearance, the 20 degrees of approach angle, and 32 degrees of departure angle, give it unexpected off-road capability for the segment and ensure maximum protection also in city life, for example when drivers navigate up a steep parking ramp.

To improve its angles, Avenger adopts the new e-CMP2 modular electric platform, significantly customizing it with specific tunings to deliver best-in-class JEEP capability. Engineers designed the platform with no less than 60% of its components fully JEEP-dedicated. Starting from this platform, designers minimized the front and rear overhangs by creating totally new crash boxes, which are 30 mm shorter and offer the same energy-absorbing performance.

The team raised the vehicle from the ground to maximize clearance with the lowest point being the engine shield, where there are 209 mm at the suspension level and up to 223 mm at the battery plate level. It is important to note Avenger’s full and flat underbody, which protects the high voltage battery from damage while also improving aerodynamic efficiency.

But Avenger perfectly embodies Jeep “dual soul”, and it is as capable on road as it is offroad. In fact, for the best “on road capability”, thanks to its compact size and agility, it delivers a turning circle of just 10.5 metres. Which is ideal in the alleys of a historic city centre as well as on winding offroad paths.

All-new electric powertrain – Jeep Avenger 

Avenger Longitude and Limited achieves energy consumption at 15.6 kWh per 100 km in the WLTP cycle*. This result stems from the extreme efficiency of the new propulsion system and the extreme lightness of the vehicle – only 1,520 kilograms.

The compactness of the vehicle and its extreme weight efficiency contribute to this. To extend the autonomy range, engineers developed each specific Avenger element to achieve maximum performance and efficiency.

They started with the light and efficient eCMP2 electric platform, modifying 600 components. The all-new electric motor improved range by 5%, the all-new battery provided another 12% benefit, and they gained 5% more by optimizing aerodynamics, gear ratio, and tyres. Additionally, the heat pump increases the range by up to 10% in extreme hot and cold conditions.

M3 power unit

The M3 power unit adopted on Avenger is a second-generation, highly efficient 400-Volt e-motor. It is the first power unit launched by eMotors. The STELLANTIS 50/50 joint venture with NIDEC. It delivers 115 kiloWatt and 260 Nm of maximum torque.

Another key element that allows high autonomy range is the battery. Avenger’s new 54 kWh battery is also produced by STELLANTIS in the Tychy plant. It offers top energy density together with an excellent ratio between nominal and usable energy – which is 51 kWh.

The battery pack consists of 17 modules and 102 cells with NMC 811 Lithium-Ion chemistry. The battery system is very compact and is located under the front and rear seats and the central tunnel. With virtually zero impact on the vehicle.

To consider that the battery is twice protected: by high ground clearance. And by specific under-body skid plates, whose resistance in case of crash exceeds the requirements of the most stringent regulations.

Onboard Charging

Another key element of Avenger’s electric propulsion is the charging system. The standard on-board charger delivers 100 kW in direct current (corresponding to 20 to 80% charge in 24 minutes in fast-charging mode. High power and torque and a specific e-powertrain calibration allow Avenger to offer uncompromised fun to drive on road and offroad on a compact platform.

The system has been developed and tested to stand extreme weather. Down to minus 30 degrees centigrade on winter roads. And up to plus 40 degrees in the height of summer. Finally, aerodynamics importantly contributes to efficiency and long range. Thanks to a frontal area of 2.25 square metres only, and a drag coefficient as low as 0.33.  Avenger is one of the best cars in its category, in terms of aerodynamic response.

The Jeep Avenger supports three different charging modes and is equipped with a CCS COMBO Type 2 socket. This enables both domestic/public AC, and public DC fast charging. With the latter at a rate of 100kW in dedicated public stations. The vehicle comes standard with a Mode 3 charging cable for both public and domestic slow or semi-fast AC charging.

Charging Port positioning

The port is positioned in the left rear side of the vehicle. It gives immediate feedback on the charging status as well as possibility to manage set charging schedule or immediate charging.

The charging button has different uses and sequences depending on which charging mode is set. Including, no scheduled charge & immediate start, scheduled charging (not yet started) and scheduled charging (set and started).

Recharging the new Avenger is extremely simple. Via a 100 kW Mode 4 cable in direct current, connected to fast public charge. Three minutes of charge is enough to provide travel distance of 30 km. Or 24 minutes is sufficient to charge the batteries from 20 to 80% charge.

With a 11 kW Mode 3 cable for alternating current connected to a Wallbox or public station, it is possible to ‘fill up’ (from 0% to 100%) in 5.5 hours. Typical charging times for the Jeep Avenger are shown below.

The new Avenger aesthetics are a symbol of the personality of the new Jeep® SUV. Which has been designed to be configurable and offer a wide range of customisations. It provides adventure and performance, but superior style as well. It is possible to customize the Avenger in several ways, in line with its claim “make it yours”.

The colour palette – where colours are corresponding to nature elements – is composed by Ruby (red), Volcano (black), Stone (sand grey), Lake (light blue) Sun, Granite, and Snow. All colours – except for the Volcano – can be combined with a black roof on certain trim levels.

As Jeep, the most capable SUV brand, pushes toward its future of “Zero Emission Freedom,” the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is the most fuel-efficient, technologically advanced, 4×4-capable and luxurious Grand Cherokee yet.

As with the 5 and 7-seat variants, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is built at the new Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack. The newest iteration has been designed and engineered to deliver even more of what has made Jeep Grand Cherokee a true global icon in the premium SUV segment.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged l-4 PHEV 4xe powertrain combines two electric motors, a 400-volt 17.3-kWh EV battery pack, 2.0-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder engine and TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission for maximum efficiency and capability.

Overall, the 4xe system delivers 280kW of combined power and 637Nm of combined torque. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe delivers 52km (New European Driving Cycle (NEDC)) of all-electric range and a combined fuel economy of 3.2L/100km.

Efficiency is enhanced via the use of electric power steering and an electrically driven air conditioning compressor, removing those loads from the engine.

The battery pack system includes a dedicated heating and cooling circuit to keep the battery at its optimum temperature for best performance. The system includes a dedicated heater unit and a chiller that uses the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s air-conditioning refrigerant to reduce coolant temperature when needed.

Integrated Dual Charging Module (IDCM)

The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s 4xe system also includes an Integrated Dual Charging Module (IDCM) that combines a battery charger and a DC/DC converter in a single, compact unit and a Power Inverter Module (PIM) that is reduced in size. These are mounted under the body and protected with steel shields. All high-voltage electronics are sealed and waterproof.

The charge port is beneath a push-open/push-close cover on the left front fender for convenient nose-in parking at charging locations. The charge port includes LED indicators of charging status. An LED battery level monitor sits on top of the instrument panel, making it easy to check battery state of charge at-a-glance during charging.

Charging time varies from less than 10 hours (Mode 2) to less than 3 hours (Mode 3 @7.4kWh).

With E-Selec modes, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe driver can tailor the hybrid powertrain to best suit each trip, from daily commuting in pure-electric mode to extended highway road trips with no range anxiety, allowing owners to explore nature off-road in near silence.

The driver selects the desired powertrain mode (Hybrid, Electric, eSave) via buttons mounted on the instrument panel, to the right of the steering wheel. Regardless of the mode selected, the Grand Cherokee 4xe operates as a hybrid once the battery nears its minimum state of charge.

Regenerative braking is part of the 4xe system. When the driver steps on the brake pedal, the powertrain control engages the maximum available regenerative braking, up to 0.25 g, from the electric motors to slow the vehicle, augmented with the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s traditional friction brakes. With 4×4 engaged, all four wheels feed torque for regenerative braking, maximising the energy recovery. Electricity from regenerative braking is fed to the battery pack to maintain or increase the state of charge.

With the standard 8-speed automatic transmission, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe can tow up to 2,722 kg when properly equipped.

As with the rest of the fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee fleet, the front axle is bolted directly to the engine which allows for superior and refined driving dynamics. Every touchpoint uses premium materials, emanating quality and sophistication throughout the vehicle.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 4WD

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe delivers unrivalled capability along with composed on-road driving dynamics. The legendary off-road capability begins courtesy of the two available 4×4 systems – Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II. Both 4×4 systems feature an active transfer case to improve traction by distributing torque to the wheel with the most grip.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe will receive an exclusive trim treatment, with a Gloss Black roof as part of the Summit Reserve 4xe standard specification, further highlighting the floating roofline achieved courtesy of a new window moulding that begins at the base of the side mirror and travels all the way to the rear quarter window and extends to the base of the backlight

The Jeep Grand Cherokee range comes with a range of convenient features to keep passengers connected while driving. An available wireless charging pad is provided for the passengers in the front-row and two USB Type C connectors, a 10.25-inch frameless digital instrument cluster display with nearly two dozen different menus from which the user can select, including driver-assist technologies, such as Active Driving Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition and available Night Vision

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve 4xe also features an all-new premium, interior LED lighting with daytime/night-time settings, true ambient lighting with a five-colour selection, McIntosh 19-speaker premium audio system and a hands-free, foot activated power liftgate.

The plan, which premiered on the brand’s YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/thejeepchannel, calls for the introduction of four all-electric SUVs in North America and Europe by the end of 2025. As part of an ongoing comprehensive product plan, 50% of Jeep brand sales in the U.S. will be fully electric by 2030, while 100% of European sales will be all-electric by then. The plan is in full support of the net-zero carbon emissions targets set by Stellantis during the Dare Forward 2030 long-term strategic plan.

The Jeep brand showed the first images of two fully electric SUVs – the all-new Jeep Recon and an all-new Wagoneer, code name Wagoneer S – that will arrive in North America and other regions around the world, while confirming that the all-new, all-electric Jeep Avenger will launch in Europe early next year.

Jeep Brand 4xe Electrified Portfolio in North America

Building upon the success of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) in the U.S., and the recently introduced Grand Cherokee 4xe, the brand is developing a comprehensive electrified product range specifically developed to enhance the brand’s legendary capability and expanding its reach in North America.

“With the continuous expansion of the 4xe technology across our entire portfolio, we are redefining freedom and adventure in a way that only the Jeep brand can,” said Jim Morrison, head of Jeep brand North America. “By the end of 2025, our full lineup will be electrified, including four all-electric vehicles competing in the heart of the marketplace.”

This electrification plan will also expand the Wagoneer portfolio. The brand will offer an all-new, all-electric Wagoneer in the premium midsize SUV segment, while in the large SUV segments the Wagoneer models will deliver powertrains that target an estimated 500 miles of combined range.

By 2030, the Jeep brand will offer a full range of new battery-electric vehicles (BEV), establishing a lead in the SUV industry in terms of the number of models, segment participation and sales volume. As a result, 50% of brand sales in the U.S. will be all-electric vehicles.

The All-new Jeep Recon: 100% Jeep; 100% Zero Emission

One of the first all-new electric SUVs that will launch in North America is the Jeep Recon.

This all-new vehicle is aimed at those who love to explore extreme adventures in near silence with a rugged, fully electric vehicle package.

The Jeep Recon is designed from the ground up to be 100% Jeep 4×4 and 100% zero emission. This SUV will be offered exclusively as a BEV, and it will enhance off-roading adventures with:

• True trail-rated capability with Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-locker axle technology, under-body protection, tow hooks and aggressive off-road tires
• Authentic Jeep open-air freedom with a one-touch powertop, removable doors and glass
• The latest generation Uconnect system, including detailed travel guides of the most notable off-road trails

“The all-new, all-electric Jeep Recon has the capability to cross the mighty Rubicon Trail, one of the most challenging off-road trails in the U.S., and reach the end of the trail with enough range to drive back to town and recharge,” said Meunier.

This global SUV will be displayed to the public next year and production will start in 2024 in North America. Customers in the U.S. will be able to make a reservation for the new Jeep Recon BEV SUV in early 2023. The Jeep Recon will be sold in major markets around the world, including Europe.

An All-new, All-electric Wagoneer – The Art of American Premium

The Wagoneer family is also set to grow with an all-new SUV. Code-named Wagoneer S, this fully electric vehicle will continue to expand the brand’s presence in the premium SUV segment by offering a unique, sleek, aerodynamic design and 4×4 capability as standard, with all-terrain management, advanced Jeep brand-focused technology and impressive performance credentials.

This new, all-electric, global SUV will be offered exclusively as a BEV, targeting a range of 400 miles on a single charge, 600 hp and a 0-60 mph time of around 3.5 seconds.

With an exterior design marked by a signature LED-lit grille, this SUV is driven by aerodynamic efficiency, combined with the upright iconic Wagoneer side view.

“We’ll delight our customers with a premium, highly efficient SUV that is loaded with technology and high quality craftmanship, offering 4×4 capability, high performance, rapid acceleration and a target range of 400 miles on a single charge,” added Meunier.

The all-new Wagoneer BEV will also be displayed to the public next year and production will start in 2024 in North America. Customers in the U.S. will be able to make a reservation for this all-electric Wagoneer model in early 2023. It will be sold in major markets around the world, including Europe.

 All-new Jeep Avenger, the First-ever Fully Electric Jeep SUV, Arrives in Europe in 2023

In Europe, the Jeep brand has already made a big shift by offering only electrified SUVs in countries such as Germany and France.  By the end of this year, 100% of the Jeep SUV portfolio will be electrified in almost all of the European markets.

The plan revealed today builds upon this 4xe momentum, developing a portfolio of capable, fully electric vehicles designed and rightsized for Europe. The brand will introduce four zero-emission vehicles in Europe by 2025, with offerings in the main volume segments. As a result of this product onslaught, all the Jeep vehicles on sale in the region will be 100% electric by 2030.

The first model of this product offensive is the all-new, all-electric Jeep Avenger, a compact SUV that was presented during the Stellantis Dare Forward long-term strategic plan earlier this year.

The all-new Jeep Avenger, to be introduced in Europe and other markets, such as Japan and South Korea, will be positioned under the Jeep Renegade and will be produced in the high-efficiency plant in Tychy, Poland.

With a targeted electric range of 400 kilometres, this new SUV will offer impressive ground clearance, breakover and approach angles for its segment, while delivering a modern and technologically advanced interior, with plenty of space for people and cargo.

“The all-new Avenger will offer Jeep brand capability that is rightsized for the European market,” said Antonella Bruno, head of Jeep Europe at Stellantis, “This modern, fun and emotional SUV will appeal to a growing set of customers who are looking for a capable, compact, modern and all-electric Jeep brand alternative to the current players.”

The Jeep Avenger will debut during the Paris Motor Show press day, on October 17, with reservations opening for customers that same day. The all-new Jeep Avenger will arrive in showrooms in early 2023.

4xe Is the New 4×4

The Jeep brand continues to expand its 4xe portfolio across the globe, enhancing its legendary 4×4 capability with the use of electrification and technology. While details of the current plan focus on North America and Europe, specific plans for other regions will be announced at a later date.
