Joining the EV5, EV6, and EV9 electric SUVs, the EV3 promises to impress with a bold exterior and interior design, the latest multimedia technology, comfort, and convenience features plus leading safety features.

Based on the E-GMP platform, the EV3 has been designed from the ground up to be a no-compromise EV and brings standard and long-range electrified power to the small SUV segment.

The Kia EV3 range opens with an impressive $47,600 RRP for the Air Standard Range variant and tops out at $63,950 RRP for the GT-Line variant.

Kia EV3 is available across three trimlines

The EV3 is available across three trimlines; Air, Earth, and GT-Line. Air is offered with a choice between Standard Range and Long Range battery systems, while Earth and GT-Line are both Long Range.

The Standard Range battery is rated at 58.3 kWh, while the Long Range steps up to 81.4 kWh, and both batteries are lithium-ion type.

This contributes to a class-leading 604km WLTP driving range for the Long Range version of the EV3 Air, with the price-leading EV3 Air Standard Range rated for 436km, and the more feature-laden Long Range Earth and GT-Line boasting a 563km figure.

Also optimising driving range is the EV3’s introduction of the new iPedal 3.0 adjustable regenerative braking system.

iPedal 3.0 enables one-pedal driving that adjusts the level of regenerative braking according to your preference to maximise efficiency.

Conveniently, iPedal 3.0 settings will remain after restarting the vehicle and the system can also be operated when reverse gear is engaged.

Bold design, balancing emotion with practicality

 The EV3 features the latest iteration of Kia’s signature Opposites United design language, while exhibiting its own robust personality with a strong stance.

The front-end design incorporates Kia Star Map lighting and Tiger Face family elements, with the GT-Line distinguished by stronger opposing diagonal elements and a larger, black lower grille for a sportier appearance.

This theme is carried along the sides into the rear of the GT-Line, which combine with unique front and rear lighting elements and gloss black side mirrors for a comprehensively unique look.

The EV3’s aerodynamic side view shows flowing geometric shapes, dynamic loop lines and surfacing paired with flush front and hidden rear door handles and corresponding trim-specific alloy wheel designs (17-inch Air,19-inch Earth/GT-Line) for a high-tech and compact look.

The EV3’s rear design correlates with the front via further Star Map lighting, with the black window frames of the sides flowing through the C-pillar to the rear window.

Dimensionally, the EV3 measures 4300mm long (GT-Line 4310mm), 1850mm wide and 1560mm high (GT-Line 1570mm), and rides on a 2680mm wheelbase.

Familiar yet new interior ambience

A ‘home-like’ theme has been applied to the interior. With minimalistic details and soft touch points complemented by large touchscreen displays and physical buttons for frequently used functions.

Across all Kia EV3 grades, these touchscreens are comprised of:

• 12.3-inch Digital Driver Cluster,
• 5-inch Climate Monitor, and
• 12.3-inch Touch Screen Infotainment display of the ccNC type with Kia’s latest GUI (Graphical User Interface).

Comfort and convenience features across the range include:

Premium relaxation seats are another GT-Line exclusive, which recline into a comfortable rest position with one touch for breaks during long-distance drives or while waiting at a charge station.

Both EV3 Earth and GT-Line variants feature heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

The EV3 continues to leverage the packaging benefits of the E-GMP platform to optimise interior space within a compact exterior, benefitting legroom, shoulder room and headroom.

Cargo space is also generous for its class, spread between a 460L VDA area in the rear and an additional 25L VDA cavity in the nose of the EV3.

Safety you expect

The EV3 has all of the active and passive safety technology expected in a new Kia.

Safety features of all trims include:

• Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2),
• Driver Attention Warning (DAW) with sensors built into the steering wheel and
• a centre side airbag among a total of seven airbags.

An ANCAP safety rating for EV3 is pending assessment from EuroNCAP independent crash testing, which will be available later this year and will be confirmed in due course.

Colour choices

 The EV3 features three distinct two-tone interior colourways spread across the trimlines. EV3 Air models feature cloth trim, while Earth and GT-Line step up to artificial leather. The Earth grade goes a step further in providing a choice between Subtle Grey and Light Warm Grey artificial leather.

The Kia EV3 is available in eight exterior colours across the line-up, spanning Clear White, Snow White Pearl, Ivory Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, Shale Grey, Frost Blue, Matcha Green, and Terracotta ($550 for Premium Paint applies to all but Clear White).

Kia Sustainability

The EV3  also embraces Kia’s ongoing efforts in sustainability, incorporating the use of the brand’s 10 ‘must-have’ sustainability items, including PP and Bio PE plastic, Bio PU Leather, Bio PU foam, Bio Paint, BTX-free Paint, Recycled fishing net, Recycled PET Yarns, and Recycled PET Felt and Fabric.

Scalability of platform demonstrated with efficient drivetrain and technology

 The EV3 uses the most compact iteration of the scalable E-GMP platform to date, demonstrating modularity with its single-motor layout driving the front wheels.

All variants are equipped with a 150kW/283Nm electric motor, which integrates with an inverter and reduction gearbox to form a single unit mounted at the front of the vehicle.

The EV3 Air with its Standard Range battery is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in an impressive 7.5 seconds, Air Long Range at 7.7 seconds, and the more feature-laden Earth and GT-Line Long Range variants rated at 7.9 seconds.

Energy efficiency for the EV3 Air Standard Range is rated at 14.9kWh/100km (ADR81/02), while the Earth and GT-Line Long Range variants carry a 16.2kWh/100km (ADR81/02) figure.

The EV3 uses the 400V version of the E-GMP EV platform, with both Standard Range and Long Range batteries using lithium-ion technology.

Charging is via a Type 2 port located on the driver’s side front of the EV3, with DC charging from 10-80 per cent possible in as little as 29 minutes for the EV3 Air’s 58.3kWh Standard Range battery when using a 350kW fast charger.

The EV3 Earth and GT-Line’s 81.4kWh Long Range Battery can charge from 10-80 per cent in 31 minutes using a 350kW fast charger.

Localised ride and handling

Led by Kia Australia’s Chief Ride and Handling Engineer, Graeme Gambold, the EV3 underwent a ride and handling tuning program which resulted in a unique combination of hardware and shock absorber settings designed specifically for Australian road conditions and driving tastes.

“The outcome of our EV3 program demonstrates good neutral handling balance, with a high level of grip and handling confidence,” Gambold said.

“We were able to leverage the fundamentals of the EV3’s E-GMP platform to deliver excellent, flat and responsive dynamic handling, combined with a rounded and compliant ride overall, especially on high-speed country roads.

Kia EV3 January 2025 Update at Australian Open

 The Kia EV3 has made its Australian debut, ahead of the anticipated commencement of local sales in the second quarter of 2025.

Unveiled to the public at the Kia Powerhouse activation at the Australian Open, it will be on display to thousands of tennis goers over the next two weeks.

With the majority of the models in the range equipped with a large 81.4kWh fourth-generation  HV battery, the EV3 will hit showrooms boasting a 400V architecture and an impressive electric driving range of about 600km (WLTP), depending on grade.

Alongside the confirmed front-wheel drive versions of the EV3, Kia plans to introduce an all-wheel drive (AWD) model to Australia – creating more choice for consumers.

“The new Kia EV3 builds on the success of the EV6, EV9 and recently introduced EV5, and I have no doubt it will put Kia’s range of electric SUV options front and centre for thousands of additional Australian customers,” said Kia Australia Chief Executive Officer, Damien Meredith.

“While we’re not announcing exact pricing and specification details at this time, I can confirm the EV3 range will offer a very compelling and competitive package.”

Smart tech for stress-free driving

The Kia EV3 is the first car in Kia’s Australian line-up to feature Smart Regenerative System 3.0 technology. This intelligent system provides the driver with a digital co-pilot that can scan the road ahead and respond to situations with lightning-fast reactions.

The Smart Regenerative System is engaged by holding the right-hand steering wheel paddle for about a second and integrates autonomous driving technology with regenerative braking.

When the driver releases the accelerator pedal, the system uses sensors to detect the distance to the vehicle ahead, driver’s pattern of deceleration and navigation information to automatically decelerate to a safe speed, if necessary.

While Kia’s previous Smart Regenerative System relied solely on traffic flow and driver behaviour, this latest version incorporates navigation-based data, unlocking an array of advantages for the driver.

For example, when the EV3 approaches a corner ahead on the road, a speed limit decrease, or a roundabout, the car will automatically slow down to an appropriate speed, making for a more relaxed, efficient and safe drive.

While Kia’s existing software could automatically slow the vehicle down, the latest technology can bring the EV3 to a complete stop, providing even greater flexibility.

Accessible and advanced technology as standard

The EV3’s spacious interior provides a living space-like environment for occupants to enjoy when travelling, or relaxing when the vehicle is stationary.

Cutting-edge connectivity features enable them to engage with the digital world in more immersive ways than ever before.

The EV3 comes standard with Vehicle to Load (V2L) charging. This feature enables the car to power external devices and allows customers to maximize the EV3’s accessibility.

Even while ‘off-grid’ from electric infrastructure, owners can use the EV3 to charge and power appliances such as a laptop, a coffee machine, a small fridge or even a movie projector.

The EV3’s battery is also equipped with a liquid cooling/heating system, which is used to optimise battery thermal management and in turn enhance charging speeds. The technology enables a charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 31 minutes (Long Range model) when connected to a 350kW fast charging connection.

A new, robust interpretation of Kia’s iconic Tiger Face design incorporates the brand’s latest Star Map signature lighting concept. Arranged vertically, the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) further emphasise the Tiger Face design to project a highly confident character.

Rugged and adventurous appearance

The EV3 GT-line expresses an even more rugged and adventurous appearance. At the front, the car’s contrasting lower body trim further enhances the dynamic design, while the integrated lower bumper creates a sportier, more refined look. Technical vertical and horizontal graphics express a bolder image in contrast with the car’s large black-clad areas. This treatment is also reflected at the rear, with a characteristic triangle wing configuration on the lower bumper, creating a similarly aggressive effect.

Interior design: Nature-inspired aesthetic to enhance wellbeing 

The EV3’s interior design offers a spacious cabin that comfortably accommodates five people. Kia has created a highly functional and effective cabin that exudes an appealing living space-like ambience, designed to be enjoyed by occupants on every journey and when the vehicle is charging.

An elegant centre console incorporates a sliding table and storage area. The lower area can store drinks, snacks, and even small backpacks, while personal electronic items – such as laptops and tablets – can be placed on the table when the vehicle is stationary.

Along with multi-adjustable ambient lighting and ultra-comfortable seats, which incorporate a fold-back relaxation mode, the sliding table enables occupants to enjoy maximum relaxation when parked. With a 25-liter frunk and a 460-liter rear load capacity, the EV3 offers the largest luggage space in its class. The adjustable two-tier luggage board provides over 140mm of load height flexibility, making it practical for activities like family camping trips.

Wide digital screen

A near-30-inch widescreen display – including a 12.3-inch cluster, a five-inch air-conditioning panel, and another 12.3-inch AVN display – incorporates seamless touch operation of the climate control functionality and provides clear graphics and intuitive information to the driver. The screen also extends to the centre of the dashboard, giving the front-seat passenger access to entertainment and navigation features.

Many of the EV3’s functions, including drive mode, cruise control, entertainment, and navigation, can be accessed and controlled by a simple touch of the steering wheel buttons. A seamless row of buttons below the central screen intuitively operates various functions like mapping, media, and vehicle system configuration.

Colour choices

Customers have a wide selection of interior colours, materials, and trim finishes inspired by Air, Earth, and Water elements. Options include Subtle Grey, Warm Grey, Blue, while Onyx Black is available exclusively on GT-line trim.

As with every new Kia, the EV3 incorporates various sustainable items to accelerate sustainability at scale. Recycled fabric is applied to the dashboard and door trims to create an intimate and home-like ambience. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is among the most easily recycled plastics in the world, features in numerous areas of the interior, including the seats, headliner, door armrests, garnish, floor mats, and luggage board.

Electric drivetrain: Exemplary range and ultra-fast charging 

The EV3 measures 4,300mm long, 1,850mm wide, 1,560mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,680mm. It features a state-of-the-art front-wheel drive electric powertrain based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), utilising Kia’s fourth-generation battery technology. Kia’s AI Assistant technology

The EV3 is the first EV model to feature Kia’s AI Assistant technology. Which recently made its debut on the Kia K4 compact sedan. This technology provides customers with new and innovative ways to interact with and control the vehicle’s features directly and intuitively. Enhancing convenience and optimising productivity during their time in the vehicle. This human-like assistant will always support and inspire users as they explore the world. Kia will soon commence the rollout of these features across other EV models, starting with the EV3.

Kia’s global campaign for the EV3: ‘A moving power’

Kia is set to embark on a series of global campaign activities, encapsulated by the statement ‘a moving power.’ This statement speaks to the company’s commitment to innovation. A front-axle-mounted motor delivers 160 kW and is paired with a powerful new rear-mounted motor producing 270 kW, to deliver a combined power output of 430 kW and 740 Nm of torque.

The total power output of the EV6 GT is a remarkable 80% higher than that of the next most powerful EV6 variant, the AWD dual-motor model, which has 239 kW and 605 Nm of torque (front and rear motors combined).

Kia EV6 GT more details

The Intelligent Front-lighting System (IFS) uses the front view camera to recognise oncoming and preceding vehicles. The system reduces the rise of dazzling oncoming traffic or preceding vehicles with high beam by controlling individual LEDs within each headlight. In a Kia Australia first, vehicles with IFS also feature sequential indicators.

E-LSD (Electronic Limited Slip Differential) controls the differential functions of the rear wheels to help:

• Improve steering performance when turning at high speed.
• Improve launching performance.
• Prevent slipping on rainy or snowy roads due to dissimilar friction of the left and right wheels.

The characteristics of the E-LSD varies according to the drive mode selected.

The EV6 GT is Kia’s first fully electric GT vehicle and the second Kia model to feature Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS).

Electronic Control Suspension controls the vehicle dampers to maximise driving comfort/handling performance for the road conditions. The damping force is automatically adjusted according to the vehicle speed, road surface, cornering, stopping and acceleration requirements.

The system also helps to mitigate roll when cornering or making high speed lane changes and can also limit squat and dive during rapid acceleration or braking.

GT Drive Mode

GT Drive Mode automatically configures the vehicle’s e-motors, braking, steering, the semi-active dampers, e-LSD and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems into their most dynamic settings, transforming the character and response of the car, and providing a highly engaging experience.

Drivers can further tailor the various power and suspension control systems to suit their individual driving preferences by accessing the My Drive Mode.

Drift Mode (when activated) sends 100% of torque to the rear wheels to easily achieve sideways drifting with small steering angle. When exiting a corner, power can be distributed to the front wheels again to improve acceleration.

The 3x mode ESC Logic has been tuned extensively on roads in and around Sydney & Canberra with good differentiation between Normal / Sport / GT modes and is very well suited to typical Australian road & driving characteristics providing excellent rough, urban and country road performance, handling & ride quality.

The GT variant of EV6 features double ball joint front suspension to allow for bigger brakes and a virtual steering axis result in better steering feel:

Bold and stylish design

The all-new Kia Niro features a bold and dynamic design inspired by Kia’s acclaimed ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. Taking strong influence from the 2019 HabaNiro concept car, its stylish and bold crossover looks are combined with a high-tech two-tone body and optional contrasting C-Pillar.

The all-new Niro’s front-end features the latest evolution of Kia’s signature Tiger Face, which extends from the bonnet to the rugged bumper below. Striking ‘heartbeat’ daytime running lights (DRLs) add to the unique yet contemporary look, while a bold skid plate and cladding enhance the car’s rugged character.

The side profile combines clean character lines with a bold Aero C-Pillar, a highly distinctive shape with an aerodynamic vent helping to improve overall efficiency levels. These measures have enabled the all-new Kia Niro to achieve an impressive drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.29. The meeting of the distinctive C-Pillars with the striking boomerang-shaped LED taillights further add to the vehicle’s sporty stance.

At the rear, these LED taillights sit alongside uncomplicated surface treatments for a concise and aerodynamic styling combination, while the heartbeat-shaped rear reflector, rugged skid plate and lower bumper help to complement the all-new Niro’s front-end design.

The second-generation Niro offers a choice of eight expressive exterior colours across the range including Cityscape Green which is new to Kia’s colour pallet, Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black Pearl, Mineral Blue, Interstellar Grey, Runway Red, Steel Grey and Clear White, all sporting a gloss black lower cladding (excluding EV GT-Line in Snow White Pearl).

For the first time, the Niro range provides options for personalisation with a choice of contrasting C-Pillar colours in the GT-Line trims; Cityscape Green and Mineral Blue can be combined with a gloss black C-Pillar (HEV and EV GT-Line), while the EV GT-Line in Snow White Pearl can be paired with a C-Pillar and cladding in Steel Grey.

Innovative and minimalist interior

Premium and eco-friendly materials create a minimalist contemporary feel while modern digital displays and interior controls, have been optimally placed to further enhance the user-friendly operating experience.

The entry HEV S comes with a 4.2” Multi-Function LCD cluster. The simplistic digital display has been designed to replace analogue gauges to maintain a high-tech image across the entire range. The EV S trim incorporates the 10.25” digital cluster with an 8” AV touch screen.

The GT-Line trim in both HEV and EV variants provides a high-tech panoramic high-definition digital display screen that integrates both the instrument cluster (10.25”) and infotainment features (+10.25”) in one streamlined package. The system has been designed to be easy to use with pin sharp graphics and a highly intuitive layout, enabling users to personalise, access and operate the vehicle’s connectivity, usability and functionality features with ease and confidence.

Located below the centre screen lies an integrated touch sensitive infotainment and climate control system that removes clutter for a clean and coherent look and ensures front seat occupants can access these important controls without the need to scroll through multiple menus.

Within easy reach of the driver lies the stylish centre-console incorporating a modern look with a high-gloss black surface finish. Here, the driver can operate the all-new Niro’s electronic dial-type shift lever (HEV GT-Line & EV S/GT-Line), the design of which saves space and is convenient and intuitive to operate. A variable large-capacity cupholder tray and a wireless Qi charging pad (GT-Line) are also close to hand.

The front passenger premium relaxation seat in the EV GT-Line can recline at the touch of a button while parked or charging to enable the passenger to relax in supreme comfort. Across the range, the front seats incorporate convenient rear-mounted coat hangers and USBC charging.

The all-new Niro’s dimensions have grown over its predecessor, with a length measuring 4,420mm, a width of 1,825mm, a height of 1,545mm HEV/1,570mm EV, and a wheelbase of 2,720mm (increased length 65mm HEV/45mm EV, width 20mm and wheelbase 20mm).

By repositioning the Niro’s 12V battery out of the wheelhouse and instead integrating it alongside the high-voltage battery at the bottom of the rear seats, boot load capacity for the Niro HEV model reaches an impressive 425 litres (VDA), up 15 litres over its predecessor.

As a clear statement of Kia’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, the all-new Niro showcases recycled materials inside the cabin. The headlining is made from recycled PET materials, the seats are made from Bio PU with Tencel from eucalyptus tree fibres, and BTX* free paint is used on the door panels to minimise the impact on the environment and reduce waste.

Powertrains and local tuning deliver an efficient driving experience

The all-new Kia Niro is available with two highly efficient FWD electrified powertrains, Hybrid Electric (HEV) and full Electric (EV), and both variants are available with a choice of two specification options: the base S trim and the newly appointed flagship GT-Line trim.

A highly efficient Smartstream 1.6-litre GDI engine featuring improved cooling, friction and combustion technologies helps power the HEV models. The powerplant ensures competitive fuel efficiency, with the all-new Niro HEV capable of achieving 4.0 litres/100 kms combined fuel consumption.

The four-cylinder unit produces a maximum output of 77.2kW along with 144 Nm of torque. When combined with the 32kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, the HEV model produces a combined maximum power output of 104kW and 265 Nm of torque.

The 1.6-litre GDI engine is mated to the second-generation 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (6DCT) that has been carefully engineered and optimised to increase efficiency and reduce weight.

The 64.8kWh electric option is paired with a Single Speed Transmission (reduction gear), provides 150kW power and 255Nm of torque, and a single charge driving range of 460 kilometres.

The EV variant of the all-new Niro combines its outstanding 460km (WLTP) range with a top speed of 167km/h and 0-100km/h taking just 7.8 seconds. Furthermore, Niro EV’s low drag coefficient of 0.29 ensures minimum aerodynamic resistance and maximum energy efficiency.

Topping up the EV’s 64.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery from 10-80 per cent takes just 43 minutes with a suitable DC rapid charger. The all-new Niro comes with a standard CCS2 charging port for added convenience. AC and DC charging times for the all-new Niro have improved over the outgoing model.

Kia’s smart regenerative braking system enables drivers to choose from a series of regeneration levels to easily slow the car and recuperate kinetic energy to maximise driving range. The system can calculate the amount of regeneration required using radar and road gradient information. The system allows the car to harvest the maximum amount of energy from its brakes while bringing the vehicle to a gentle halt.

The next-generation Niro EV gains in braked towing capacity which is now 750kg (previously 300kg) opening up the possibilities for zero-emission adventures. The HEV maximum braked towing capacity remains at a capable 1,300kg.

Tuned for Australian roads

The all-new Kia Niro has undergone an extensive local ride and handling program to ensure it is suitable for Australia’s unique road conditions and driving styles. This is also Kia Australia’s first full ride & handling program since the start of the pandemic with the opportunity to tune the MDPS (steering) map.

The result, is car like handling with nice and flat body control and minimal roll coming into corners, providing driver confidence. A significant improvement over the outgoing model and comparable to European benchmarks.

Impressive safety and convenience features

Safety has been a top priority during the development of the all-new Niro. As a result, the vehicle’s high-strength lightweight body features a multi-load front impact structure to ensure passengers benefit from outstanding levels of safety in the event of a front-end collision.

 The active and passive safety credentials of the all-new Kia Niro range have also been boosted over the outgoing model adding Centre Side Airbag, Multi Collision Braking (MCB), Electronic Chromic Mirror (ECM), Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA) and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) as standard across all trim levels.

Other standard safety features include Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), High Beam Assist (HBA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Rear View Monitor (RVM), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), and Rear Parking Sensors.

GT-Line trims gain Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Reverse (PCA-R), Safe Exit Assist, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Power Child Lock and the Emergency Service ‘eCall’ through the Kia Connect functions.

Kia Connect and convenience features fit seamlessly into everyday life

To suitably symbolise the change to GT-Line as the new top trim, both HEV and EV GT-Line variants offer an extensive list of upgraded convenience and comfort features such as Heated and Ventilated Seats (Front), Heated Steering Wheel, 10.25″ Digital Driver Cluster, Head-Up Display (HUD), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA-Entry), Smart Power  Tailgate, Wireless Qi Device Charger , Telematics (Kia Connect) and Smart Key  with Push Button Start.

The EV GT-Line, representing the flagship model of the range, also receives a Power Tilt and Sliding Sunroof, Front Passenger Premium Relaxation Seat, 8 Speaker Harmon/Kardon Premium Sound System and Exterior Vehicle to Load Adaptor (V2L).

Interior V2L is standard across the all-new Niro EV range, a function offering significant charging flexibility. An Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) enables up to 3.6kW of power to be discharged from the vehicle’s battery. Inside the cabin, a handy charging port located under the rear seats allows passengers to charge devices from the vehicle’s battery without the need for additional adapters.

GT-Line models come with both the interior and exterior V2L function. The adapter plug enables the car to charge anything from external domestic appliances to other EVs (with a trickle charger).
