The 34.6 kWh unit upgrades LEVC’s state-of-the-art eCity powertrain, offering increased capacity (up from 31 kWh) and greater efficiency. With even lower CO2 emissions for the TX and VN5, bolstering the contribution of LEVC’s vehicles to improving urban air quality.

Thanks to the new battery, the TX taxi now emits just 14g/km of CO2 (down from 19g/km). The VN5 emits 17g/km (down from 19g/km). Drivers and owner operators are driving further too.

upgraded battery for LEVC TX and VN5

Alex Nan, CEO of LEVC, commented: “With thousands of our vehicles sold around the world, LEVC’s eCity technology is the powertrain choice for the modern taxi driver. The updated battery further bolsters the already compelling business case for our customers, with significant benefits for drivers, owner operator, while helping to improve air quality in urban environments.

“Our award-winning TX continues to satisfy demand for clean and accessible mobility demands the world over. With new markets adopting the TX, we’re proud to be making such a significant contribution to improving air quality in more than 20 markets.”

Demand continues to surge for the company’s smart, green, safe and accessible mobility solutions. The TX electric taxi having now overtaken the diesel-powered TX4 as the most common black cab operating in London.

The upgraded battery for TX and VN5 follows LEVC’s recent announcement regarding its innovative new pure electric vehicle technology, which will transform the brand from a high-end taxi manufacturer to a leading provider of e-mobility solutions.

LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) announces major milestone with the sale of its 5,000th electric taxi in London

TX, the world’s most advanced electric taxi, now makes up more than a third of all black cabs operating in the city

Since its launch in 2018, LEVC’s TX taxis have travelled 307 million miles in London and prevented 109,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere

For more information on LEVC visit www.levc.com

Following its launch in 2018, TX has been a trailblazer for the worldwide taxi market, and with more than a third of licensed black taxis in London now the TX, London leads the globe in purpose-built, fully accessible electrified taxis.

The TX features a lightweight aluminium body and benefits from LEVC’s eCity range extender powertrain. This game-changing technology enables the taxi to travel in full electric mode for up 64 miles.

Offering unparalleled flexibility and no range anxiety, TX has a total range of 318 miles and reduces NOx emissions by 99.5 per cent. In the four years since launching, the TX has prevented 109,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

Regardless of age, gender or disability, LEVC’s TX is an accessible and inclusive vehicle for all. Featuring flexible space on-board for up to six passengers, the vehicle includes a fully integrated wheelchair ramp and a swivel seat, enabling the TX to accommodate a forward-facing wheelchair – the only taxi of its kind to do so.

When planning the TX, LEVC’s designers and engineers consulted with cab drivers to create the most ergonomic, driver-centric cabin ever seen, featuring cutting-edge controls for ease of operation.

The TX has also transformed driver and operator profitability, with a typical fuel saving of more than £110 per week.

The cab’s electric powertrain has prevented 61 million litres of fuel from being burnt, saving drivers a total of £91 million. With fuel prices at an all-time high, the TX demonstrates why transitioning to electrified power makes complete business sense for professional drivers.

Since taking to the streets, the 5,000 cabs have travelled a combined distance of approximately 307 million miles, which equates to circumnavigating the globe an incredible 12,333 times.

To date, more than 2 million passenger journeys have been taken in the electric TX taxi in London. Once they step through the limousine-like doors, passengers can enjoy an exceptionally comfortable interior, flooded with natural light courtesy of a panoramic glass roof.

LECV – From next year strict new emissions regulations will be applied to London’s famous Black Cabs meaning that the current diesel taxi cannot be registered.

So the London Taxi Company which has been making London’s black cabs for almost 70 years has recently released a brand new electric powered cab.

The new cabs retain much of the familiar shape, but are marginally bigger, allowing a sixth passenger inside.

The taxis have been brought up to date with wi-fi, USB chargers, and a new, transparent roof which allows passengers to take in the cityscape above them.

With a 50kW rapid charge, the battery powers up to 80 percent in 25 minutes. The TX also has the option for a range extender 1.5-liter petrol engine for use when the driver wants to conserve the battery. It has three different modes — Smart, Pure EV, and Save that adjust the usage of battery and gasoline power. LEVC’s taxi allows for a range of over 650 km, including over 120 km using battery power.

LECV says driving a TX taxi equates to £100 in fuel cost savings per week. The taxis were also tested in the sweltering heat of the Arizona desert and in frigid, icy conditions in the Arctic Circle. “We’re trying to take them to all these extremes to make sure the vehicle is good and does everything it needs to do, wherever it’s sold in the world,” Eddie Martin, development manager for the TX program, says. “More and more cities want electric-only vehicles so that there’s no emissions in the city itself, and that’s one of the things this vehicle is capable of doing.”
