The all-electric compact SUVs from Mercedes-Benz, the EQA and EQB, are set to further broaden their appeal via new models featuring a raft of impressive updates.

With extra driving range over outgoing variants, the new EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ models present an even more compelling case for utility-focused young families, couples, and downsizers.

A desirable list of previously optional equipment has been added to the standard specification for EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ models.

EQA and EQB customers are set to enjoy even more convenient electric charging following the launch of Mercedes me Charge, a new service that enables seamless digital authentication at charging stations, plus automated payment and billing.
All-electric EQA and EQB

The popular all-electric EQA and EQB compact SUVs from Mercedes-Benz are set to make a more compelling case than ever with the addition to the range of EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ variants. Each gains a significant boost to their indicative driving range over the outgoing EQA 250 and EQB 250, in addition to sharp new styling and extra standard equipment.

The pair of compact, all-electric SUVs already find favour with a broad cross-section of customers attracted to the EQA’s compact dimensions and sleek styling, or to the outright family-friendly practicality of the deceptively spacious EQB.

Now, their all-electric credentials are boosted further with the news that the new EQA 250+ will gain an extra 54 km of range over the outgoing EQA 250 to an indicative total of 578 km (NEDC), while the EQB 250+ gains an additional 57 km over the outgoing EQB 250 to now travel an indicative 564km (NEDC).

Sharp new styling, even sharper equipment specification – Mercedes Benz EQA and EQB

The EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ will distinguish themselves with sharp new exterior styling including a new front grille design featuring a constellation of Mercedes-Benz stars, plus distinctive new tail-light graphics.

Inside, both models are fitted with the current-generation Mercedes-Benz multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather, featuring touch control buttons, plus a new Mercedes-Benz backlit pattern trim.

In addition, significant updates to standard equipment now include a number of previously-optional items, including AMG Line exterior styling featuring AMG body styling, front seats with electric adjustment and memory setting, an advanced sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and standard metallic paint.

In addition, the EQB 250+ adds a third row of seats as standard, allowing seating for up to seven people. This previously popular option – which can also be folded flat to create significant extra cargo capacity – further enhances the family-friendly appeal of this highly practical and flexible all-electric SUV.

Both variants are powered by an electric motor generating 140 kW of power and 385 Nm of torque allied to a 70.5 kWh battery pack, and ride on adjustable damping suspension.

A long list of desirable features – EQA and EQB

An impressive standard equipment list carries over from the outgoing EQA 250 and EQB 250, including three-zone automatic climate control, sports-style front seats in ARTICO and MICROCUT microfibre with four-way lumbar support, the advanced MBUX multimedia system including navigation with augmented reality display, interior ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours, Apple CarPlay® and Google Android Auto® smartphone integration, wireless charging for mobile devices, digital radio, and a handy partition net and Load Compartment Package.

There’s also KEYLESS-GO entry and startup, a powered EASY-PACK tailgate, a Parking Package including 360° camera view and Active Parking Assist, LED high-performance headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, heat-insulating dark tinted glass from the centre pillar backwards, and distinctive 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels.

An array of safety systems

A wide array of integral safety systems on both variants includes nine airbags, the PRE-SAFE® accident anticipation system, DISTRONIC active distance assist cruise control, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, Active Braking Assist, exit warning function, tyre pressure monitoring, an auto-dipping rear-view mirror, and the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-33172" src="https://www.ecocarguide.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Mercedes-Benz-EQB-1.jpg" alt="Mercedes-Benz EQA.
Welcome new additions to the all-electric range

With their impressive range and stunning specification, the new EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ form a compelling opening point for the all-electric range offered by Mercedes-Benz.

EQA customers can still choose to step up to the EQA 350 4MATIC featuring 215 kW and 520 Nm from dual motors driving power to all four wheels, a 66.5 kWh battery pack, and an indicative range of 489 km (NEDC). With this combination, the sporty EQA 350 4MATIC can sprint to 100 km/h in as little as 6.0 seconds.

In addition to the comprehensive EQA 250+ specification, the EQA 350 4MATIC is fitted with a Burmester® 3D surround sound system, head-up display, MBUX Interior Assist, GUARD 360° vehicle protection, and Driving Assistance Package featuring Active Steering Assist, Route-Based Speed Adaption, and Extended Automatic Restart in Traffic.

The new EQS 450 4MATIC SUV joins the Mercedes-Benz range as an all-electric seven-seat SUV

A third row of seats for occupants up to 150 cm in height, or cargo space of up to 2100 litres with all seats in both rear rows stowed brings genuine family-friendly flexibility

The EQS 450 4MATIC SUV arrives equipped with exceptional levels of standard luxury and comfort, as well as a loaded equipment specification

Second-row passengers can travel in first-class luxury with the optional Comfort Plus Package, which adds a raft of exceptional features focused on comfort and connectivity

A further option expected to be popular with EQS SUV buyers is the futuristic Hyperscreen

EQS 450 4MATIC SUV

The well-appointed EQS 450 4MATIC SUV joins the local Mercedes-Benz range and arrives at the same time as the all-electric EQE SUV range. Key differentiations are the third row of seating in the EQS SUV, bringing total seating capacity to seven, as well as a longer wheelbase for even more cabin space and extra cargo capacity.

At 5125 mm long, 1950 mm wide and 1718 mm in height, the EQS SUV is 262 mm longer, 10 mm wider and 32 mm taller than the EQE SUV. Crucially, the wheelbase is 180 mm longer, much of which is deployed to the second row of seats. With the second row able to slide fore and aft a total of 130 mm by electronic adjustment, extra legroom can be apportioned between the second and third rows as needed. In addition, the second-row backrests can be reclined electrically (14 degrees to the front, 4 to the rear.)

The EQS 450 4MATIC SUV is also well equipped to accommodate the family’s luggage – with the second row in place, cargo capacity ranges between 645 and 880 litres (depending on the fore-aft position of the second-row seats). With all seats folded down, usable space increases to a maximum of 2100 litres. Meanwhile, with all seven seats in use across three rows, a useful 195-litre cargo capacity remains available. Additionally, the two charging cables supplied as standard (one for use with standard 240-volt household plugs, and another for AC chargers) can be stowed in their carry bags in a dedicated storage space beneath the cargo area floor.

The second row of seats has a 40:20:40 split, and a standard EASY ENTRY function electrically slides the second-row backrest forward up to 290 mm to provide a clear path for third-row occupants to enter and exit.

Bringing first class to the second row

The optional Comfort Plus Package significantly ramps up the feeling of connectedness and luxury especially for second row passengers, who get a seatback-mounted MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment System, along with wireless headsets. A comfort armrest is fitted with an MBUX rear tablet, and there is also a wireless charging system for compatible mobile devices. Second-row occupants also receive the same luxurious pillow-style head restraints as front-seat passengers, while seats in both the second and third rows receive heating. As part of this package, the driver can enjoy a heated steering wheel on chilly mornings, while all occupants will enjoy the benefit of the ENERGIZING Package Plus and AIR BALANCE Package.

Powerful performance

The EQS 450 4MATIC SUV utilises the advanced 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system to intelligently and continuously distribute drive torque to e-motors mounted on the front and rear axles. Up to 265 kW of power and 800 Nm of torque generate exceptional responsiveness, while a large on board battery offers up to 592 km (NEDC) driving range from a single charge.

The chassis has a four-link axle at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear, while AIRMATIC air suspension with continuously adjustable damping is standard and allows the vehicle level to be raised by several centimetres.

Rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees is fitted as standard, providing extra manoeuvrability in the city and greater stability as speeds rise. An upgrade adding up to 10 degrees of steering angle is optionally available.

The inside story: Elegance meets luxury

Stepping inside the EQS SUV, quality and luxury are evident in every detail. The standard AMG Line interior wraps the multifunction sports steering wheel in tactile Nappa leather, while the front Comfort Seats are also upholstered in leather with electronic adjustment, memory function and both heating and cooling. Elegant anthracite linestructure wood trim and a centre console finished in a black fine-structure look underpin a premium appearance and feel to the cabin.

A radically simplified interior layout minimises the number of buttons and switches in favour of a portrait-style centre screen incorporating the latest generation of the acclaimed MBUX infotainment system. This utilises ‘zero-layer’ technology, which places the most-needed functions within easy reach via the 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen. Another 12.3-inch OLED screen for the driver is highly customisable, as is the standard Head-Up Display (HUD). The MBUX navigation system includes augmented reality, overlaying virtual signals over a camera image showing upcoming road conditions.

Front seat passengers can utilise a wireless charging pad for compatible mobile devices, and also connect wirelessly to enable use of an Apple Carplay® or Google Android Auto® interface.

An electrically operating glass panoramic sunroof helps to maintain a bright and spacious feeling throughout the cabin, while Active Ambient Lighting can be displayed with a choice of 64 colours and 10 colour schemes.

The gold standard of sound

More than 70 per cent of music consumers state that they listen to music mostly in a car. With that in mind, the premium Burmester® 3D surround sound system with 15 speakers and 710 watts incorporates Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos for the first time.

Described as “the gold standard of sound”, this system links with Apple Music and Universal Music Group to create an immersive in-car audio experience, including tracks that have been recorded and approved specifically for optimal playback in a Mercedes-Benz. It’s also the first time that Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos from Apple Music has been made available natively in a non-Apple device.

EQS 450 4MATIC SUV Handsome and practical

The standard AMG Line includes a number of eye-catching exterior enhancements including an AMG-specific front bumper with the lower section in high-gloss black, wheel arch linings and side sill panels also in high-gloss black, and an AMG-specific rear apron. The EQS SUV is fitted as standard with aluminium-look, illuminated running boards with rubberised studs, 21-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in back with a high-sheen finish, and heat-insulating dark privacy glass for the rear windows. A choice of six metallic paint finishes are included.

The headlights incorporate advanced DIGITAL LIGHT technology, utilising up to one million tiny mirrors which continuously and dynamically adjust to the road conditions to provide optimal illumination. The EQS SUV is also fitted with Parking Package including PARKTRONIC, and a handy 360-degree camera.

The family-sized EQE SUV range from Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-EQ and Mercedes-AMG represents an irresistible blend of the luxury, comfort, performance and safety typical of modern Mercedes-Benz SUV models, combined with a technologically advanced all-electric drivetrain developed by Mercedes-EQ

The EQE SUV offers up to 539 km driving range (NEDC) from a single charge, with recharging from 10 to 80% of capacity possible in as little as 32 minutes via the AC- and DC-compatible on board charging port

The EQE SUV range comprises three variants – the EQE 300, EQE 350 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+. Additionally, an EQE 500 4MATIC model will be available from launch for a limited time

Technology weaves seamlessly through every aspect of the all-electric driving experience, from the addition of acclaimed Dolby Atmos technology (for compatible formats) via the standard Burmester® 3D surround sound system, to a choice of electric-inspired ‘soundscapes’ that greet you upon startup

All models are packed with extensive standard equipment including navigation with a handy Augmented Reality (AR) overlay, a panoramic sliding sunroof, a head-up display and AMG Line interior and exterior enhancements

EQE SUV range

The all-new EQE SUV range utilises a base architecture developed by Mercedes-EQ specifically for its range of medium and large electric vehicles, which also includes the EQE and EQS sedans, and the forthcoming EQS SUV.

At 3030 mm, its wheelbase is more compact than the EQE sedan on which it is based, making the EQE SUV easy to manoeuvre in the urban jungle. However, its generous length/width/height dimensions of 4863/1940/1686 mm provide spacious accommodation for up to five adults, and project a commanding presence on the road. The capacious boot space holds 520 litres of luggage with the back seat in place, and 1675 litres with the seats folded down into the vehicle floor.

Four-link suspension at the front and independent multi-link suspension at the rear lends a particularly agile feel (AIRMATIC air suspension with continuously adjustable damping is optional, and standard for AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+). Additionally, rear-axle steering that can angle the rear wheels up to 10° to further enhance steering inputs, is standard on the EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV and optional on other models. Rear-wheel steering also maximises low-speed manoeuvring, such as in parking situations, and reduces the turning circle of the EQE from 12.3 to 10.5 metres.

A high level of safety is delivered via the standard Driving Assistance Plus Package, including equipment such as ATTENTION ASSIST, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parking Package with 360 degree reversing camera, and Speed Limit Assist. Ten airbags are fitted, plus the PRE-SAFE® PLUS and PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side systems that prepare the vehicle in the instance of an imminent collision.

Mercedes-EQ engineered a highly efficient thermal architecture for the EQE SUV range including a heat pump. This takes waste heat from the inverter and electric motor to supplement the vehicle’s internal heating system, reducing draw on the onboard battery and thereby optimising achievable driving range.

The future starts now

The standard interior specification includes a strikingly elegant and uncluttered layout featuring a beautiful OLED central display screen that is the heart of the advanced MBUX infotainment system featuring simple-to-use Zero Layer technology. A separate 12.3-inch, customisable display faces the driver.

Customers can specify the optional MBUX Hyperscreen (not available on EQE 300 model), which merges three screens almost seamlessly into a single striking display that spans the 141-centimetre width of the vehicle’s front fascia.

The EQE SUV even greets its occupants by playing a futuristic soundscape upon entering the car, which includes a choice of two soundscapes (Vivid Flux and Silver Waves) as standard on all models.

Every EQE SUV is specified with the advanced DIGITAL LIGHT package with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, which utilises one million micro-reflectors within each headlight to provide precise and highly responsive light distribution.

Taking charge

Driving range of up to 539 km (NEDC) can be achieved via a number of charging options including a conventional 240-volt household socket, a Mercedes-Benz Wallbox (both AC charging) an AC charge station, or via faster DC charging at rapid or ultra-rapid charging stations.

Utilising a Mercedes-Benz Wallbox (up to 22 kW output, sold separately) connected to three-phase power, it’s possible to top up battery capacity from 10 to 80% in around 6 ½ hours. Meanwhile, DC charging offers the prospect of advancing charge from 10 to 80% in as little as 32 minutes using ultra-rapid charging (350 kW output), or in under 1 ½ hours via rapid charging (50 kW output).

Sounds different

More than 70 per cent of music consumers state that they listen to music mostly in a car, so an exciting new addition to the advanced Burmester® 3D surround sound system that is standard across the EQE SUV range is Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos (for compatible formats).

EQE 300 SUV

The feature-packed EQE 300 SUV belies its position as the entry model in the EQE range with an astonishing specification. A powerful e-motor mounted on the rear axle sends 180 kilowatts and 550 Nm to the rear wheels to generate smooth and instantaneous response in any traffic conditions.

Highlights of the EQE 300 SUV standard equipment list include AMG Line interior and exterior enhancements, a panoramic sliding sunroof, a head-up display, the latest generation of the intuitive MBUX infotainment system including navigation with augmented reality, full smartphone integration and wireless charging for mobile devices, the KEYLESS-GO comfort package and EASY-PACK tailgate, active ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a Parking Package including 360° camera, and a Burmester® 3D surround sound system. Adding a further touch of class to the opulent interior is anthracite linestructure lime wood trim paired with high-gloss black finishes.

Exterior highlights include 21-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, heat-insulating dark tinted glass, and illuminated aluminium-look running boards. The distinctive radiator grille features a veritable galaxy of stars surround the main Mercedes-Benz badge.

The EQE 300 SUV is fitted with an 89 kWh battery pack, and all EQE SUV models are packaged with two charging cables – an eight-metre cable suitable for domestic sockets, and a five-metre cable for AC-powered public charging infrastructure.

The all-new EQE 300 SUV will be priced at $134,900 (MRLP).

EQE 350 4MATIC SUV

Building on the exceptional specification of the EQE 300 SUV, the EQE 350 4MATIC SUV is powered by dual e-motors variably sending 215 kW and 765 Nm to all four wheels via the intuitive 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. This empowers the EQE 350 to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in as little as 6.3 seconds.

The EQE 350 4MATIC adds a new feature to the EQE 300’s outstanding equipment list. Known as Transparent Bonnet, this uses a number of cameras around the vehicle to provide the driver with a precise view of the environment directly beneath and in front of the vehicle, which is typically obscured by the bonnet. This is particularly useful in low-speed situations where road conditions may be variable such as off-road driving, and also in manoeuvring in tight spaces such as urban car parks.

The EQE 350 4MATIC will be priced at $144,900 (MRLP).

EQE 500 4MATIC SUV

This premium model will be available from launch for a limited time. From its dual e-motors and utilising a larger 90.5 kWh battery pack, the EQE 500 outputs 300 kW and 858 Nm for an impressive 0-100 km/h sprint of as little as 4.7 seconds.

With its substantially uprated performance, an identical generous specification to the EQE 350, and a limited release, the EQE 500 4MATIC SUV is destined to be highly sought after. It’s priced at $164,900 (MRLP).

Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV

Quickening the pulse even further is the performance-focused EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV from Mercedes-AMG for a sportier driving experience and extra differentiation.

The ’53’ significantly raises the bar again with 460 kW of power and an incredible 950 Nm of torque, equating to a 0-100 km/h sprint in as little as 3.7 seconds. Rear-axle steering is standard, as is AMG Active Ride Control suspension with AIRMATIC, which offers continuously adjustable damping and can raise the vehicle by 30 millimetres to aid ground clearance. The AMG-tuned 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system offers a more performance-focused distribution of power to individual wheels, enhancing acceleration and road holding at higher thresholds.

Inside is the Mercedes-AMG interior, a Nappa leather AMG steering wheel, and heated and cooled front seats. Externally, the EQE 53 is further distinguished by a Mercedes-AMG exterior package along with AMG Night Package, plus 22-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels and red-painted brake calipers.

The highly desirable EQE 53 is also protected by the standard GUARD 360° Vehicle Protection Plus package (optional on other models in the EQE SUV range), which incorporates an alarm system with tow-away protection. Drivers can also access a number of functions through the Mercedes me Connect app such as collision detection, stolen vehicle help, and emergency key deactivation.

The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package for $7,400 (MRLP) is outstanding. It combines selected driving dynamics extras such as the powerful Boost for the RACE START, an increased top speed of 240 km/h and the emotive AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE “Performance”. If the battery temperature and state of charge are suitable, the maximum power and torque for RACE START can be briefly increased. In this case, the EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV takes just 3.5 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. The onboard bass actuator and speakers make the power of the electric motors clear even when stationary, and provide an emotionally charged sound backdrop to the rapid acceleration. The AMG-specific graphics in the displays also visually underscore the driving performance.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV is priced at $189,900 (MRLP).

Important note

The price detailed in this document (MRLP) includes GST and any LCT applicable to the base / standard specification model but EXCLUDES ALL ON ROAD COSTS such as, for example, registration fees, stamp duty, CTP and the like.
