To celebrate the launch, MG hosted an exclusive event at Sydney’s White Bay Wharf. Over 200 guests, including industry executives, IM owners, media representatives, and EV enthusiasts, attended the interactive showcase. During the event, guests explored the IM5 Sedan and IM6 SUV—two of MG’s most advanced electric vehicles in Australia to date.

Now that the launch is complete, prospective buyers can experience the IM5 and IM6 first-hand at MG Motor retailers across the country. These vehicles aim to redefine electric mobility in Australia, blending intelligence, sophistication, and exceptional performance.

To ensure precision driving, the IM range introduces the first-generation IM Digital Chassis. This system delivers centralized control of steering, braking, suspension, and electric drive. Additionally, it manages six degrees of freedom, which enhances stability and safety during high-speed lane changes or sudden obstacle avoidance.
Furthermore, the IM5 offers a compact 4.99m turning circle thanks to four-wheel steering technology. Meanwhile, performance variants include standard air suspension and continuously controlled damping for a smoother, more responsive ride. Platinum variants also offer these upgrades as optional extras.
Breakthrough Charging and Performance
When it comes to charging and performance, IM sets a new standard. Its 800V SiC platform achieves a working voltage of 875 volts—among the highest in mass-production EVs. As a result, its 396kW ultra-fast charging adds 300km (NEDC) of range in just 15 minutes.
In addition, the IM5 AWD accelerates from 0–100km/h in an astonishing 3.2 seconds. This is powered by a 21,000 rpm Hurricane Motor for immediate and exhilarating performance.
Advanced Intelligent Driving
Beyond power, the IM range delivers intelligence. Its IM AD system, developed with Momenta, supports L2 to L4 levels of autonomous capability under real-world conditions.
For example, IM AD quickly adapted to Australian roads, handling poorly marked lanes, performing smooth lane changes, and executing automated parking in over 30 scenarios. Consequently, the system offers safer, more intuitive driving while reducing driver intervention.
Luxurious Cabin with Immersive Tech
Inside the cabin, drivers and passengers experience true luxury. Both models feature a 26.3-inch infotainment display, a 10.5-inch central touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, and premium seating finishes.
In addition, passengers enjoy generous legroom thanks to a 2,950mm wheelbase and a 20-speaker audio system for immersive sound. Smart magnetic touchpoints and collapsible seating further enhance convenience and comfort.
AI Features and iSMART Connectivity
To make driving smarter, IM integrates AI-powered assistance tools. Features such as Proactive Vision Supplement, Rainy Night Mode, and One Touch AI Chauffeur use 360-degree cameras to assist or automate tasks.
Moreover, the MG iSMART app allows owners to control functions remotely. This includes monitoring charging, tracking the car’s location, and planning routes—all from a smartphone.
Revolutionary Rear-Wheel Turning
For superior maneuverability, the IM5 and IM6 include bi-directional rear-wheel turning. This system offers up to 12 degrees of articulation, dramatically reducing the turning radius and making the vehicles as agile as compact hatchbacks.
At higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in harmony with the front for improved cornering and stability. Thanks to this feature, the IM5 broke the Moose Test record at 90.96km/h—a record that stood for 25 years.
Extended Range and Rapid Charging
In terms of range, the IM5 delivers up to 755km (NEDC), while the IM6 achieves 670km. Both models charge from 30% to 80% in just 15.2 minutes. Meanwhile, Premium models feature a 400V system, and Performance variants unlock the full 800V potential.
