 AION UT Interior

The vehicle’s interior dimensions are particularly flattering relative to its competitive set. Despite sitting on an exterior footprint that places it as one of the smallest in its segment – perfect for navigating busy CBDs – an extensive 2,750mm wheelbase allows the AION UT to deliver a an impressive 905mm of rear legroom. The AION UT is also ideal for those broad in the shoulders thanks to 1,385mm of room across.

Despite boasting impressive passenger and loading capability, the AION UT has a unique party trick up front. A vehicle set to spend much of its life navigating and parking in tight underground carparks, the issue of parking next to walls and poles becomes a thing of the past thanks to the front cabins open access walkway.

Sitting back in the AION UT’s comfortable butterfly-wrapped front seats – which are also capable of fully reclining – drivers and passengers are met with the segment’s largest display screens. An 8.8” frameless driver display coated with 3A anti-glare treatment ensures all key information remains visible to the driver even when taking into account the harsh Australian sun, while the AION UT’s 14.6” central infotainment screen offers a fast, intuitive system that can accommodate multiple main screens tailored to the owner’s preference.

Premium Cabin Ambience

Soft materials and metal trims are appointed throughout the premium cabin, along with an expansive panoramic sunroof and electric sunshade enhancing the open cabin feel.

Equipped with a heat pump dual-layer air conditioner with vents for both front and rear occupants, the AION UT is set to be one of the most usable and calming city-focused vehicles on the market, even on the stifling hot days experienced in Australian cities.

Up above, the AION UT’s expansive 860 x 790mm panoramic sunroof with electronic sunshade enhances the cabin’s overall airy feel, while also claiming another “largest in class” accolade.

 Storage and boot space

At the rear, the AION UT offers generous luggage space up to 321-litres, extended to 689 litres with the rear seats folded flat. A lower floor to tailgate height of 685mm. Make this exceptional space even more usable when loading shopping or other items into the vehicle. 24 thoughtfully designed storage compartments can also be found across the model’s interior.

Tech for Real Life

An essential feature for all modern vehicles, the AION UT is supported with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android. However, the model is further equipped with swathes of additional tech. That actively helps to make the daily lives of inner-city Australians more seamless.

Owners can monitor and track a range of key information from the palm of their hand utilising the GAC App. Set across four distinct modules with 40 individual functions. Owners are able to view real-time vehicle information.

Separately, the vehicle’s control system includes key features. Such as allowing automatic locking when drivers approach or depart the vehicle. For buyers who opt for Luxury specification models. Vehicles are also complemented with a handsfree powered tailgate, removing yet another manual control.

Finally, the AION UT is supported by a full Voice Control system. Ensuring that occupants can manage all elements of the vehicle in just a few words.

Prioritising Occupant & Road User Safety

The GAC AION UT has an exceptional blend of passive and active safety systems. That are set to make this one of the securest places to be when navigating Australia’s cityscapes.

Level 2 ADAS is standard across both variants and integrates a range of enhancing features. Speed Control incorporates adaptive cruise control reacting to other vehicles and cornering speed. While Distance Control actively monitors for large oncoming vehicles. And automatically adjusts the lateral clearance when safe to do so. Meanwhile, Stop-and-go-tracking and Lane Position Keeping remain helpful when navigating busy multi-lane city highways.

In a segment first, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is available not just frontwards, but also when reversing. Alongside larger vehicles, the vehicle’s system also recognises pedestrians and motorcyclists moving in the same and perpendicular directions. Safeguarding those most vulnerable on Australia’s roads. The AION UT is further equipped with a myriad of other technical systems. Including Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alerts, as expected in modern automotive offerings.

Surround safety

In the unfortunate event of an incident, the AION UT has been tested with 720-degree protection in mind. 360° vertically and 360° horizontally. With a chassis created from 39% high-strength and 28% hot-formed steel. The AION UT boasts 110,000 newton lateral impact forces. Through its front frontal crash structure and a roof structure capable of withstanding 7-tonnes of pressure.

Seven airbags are positioned throughout the cabin. Including an expansive 2.1-metre side curtain airbag extending from the car’s A to C pillar. Characterised by a specific V-shape in the second row delivering superior occupant head protection. In addition, the AION UT’s Auto Unlock & Power Off Upon Collision System stops the powertrain. A Powertrain Packed with Innovation

Impeccable safety standards continue through to the innovative Magazine Battery 2.0. Offered as a 60kWh LFP setup for Australian AION UT specifications. Structured efficiently with Cell-To-Pack technology. The unit features an outer shell with fireproof insulation to enhance thermal resistance.  Fast Ion Conducting (FIC) insulation coatings and internal cooling fluid without flammable additives. To ensure the battery will not catch fire or explode even when punctured or heated up to 180°c.

Equipped to over one million vehicles worldwide across GAC’s broader product portfolio. The Magazine Battery 2.0 remains incident-free to this day. Despite this bold claim, performance is not hindered as a result.

Both Premium and Luxury models are equipped with equivalent setups. Boasting an impressive 430km (WLTP) of range, consuming 16.4kWh per 100km. Likewise, the AION UT also boasts the fastest charging efficiency in its class too.

2026 GAC AION UT_Details_7

Charging from 30%-80% SOC in just under 24 minutes under a max DC charging speed of 87kW. The model is also capable of charging up to 11kW on AC charging systems.

The AION UT’s powertrain can utilise that energy to deliver 150kW / 204PS of maximum power. Along with 210Nm torque, delivered via a front-wheel-drive configuration. Capable of 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds. The AION UT is more than capable when getting up to freeway speeds as required.

As with the AION UT’s bigger sibling – the AION V – it is equipped with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology. This allows owners to utilise their car to power almost anything. From a vacuum cleaner in an underground car park for a quick interior spruce up. Through to helping a mate power up their kid’s birthday party at the park BBQ. Discharging at 3.3kW, this ultimate power bank on wheels can power all manner of appliances.

Adaptable Driving Characteristics

While offering a highly capable base package of performance, the AION UT can be tailored to driver’s preferences. Through a range of modes and equipment settings.

Three driving modes are on offer. Ranging from Comfort, Sport and Eco. With specific attention having been made to smooth transitions between accelerating and decelerating. This ensures the AION UT proactively reduces the jerky stop/start nature of EV driving. And reduces the effect of motion sickness for passengers.

The vehicle’s Bosch braking system also manages its own braking force. Gradually reducing the application as the vehicle decelerates, minimising the forward jolts that can often further contribute.
