More details

Introducing the Hyundai Mighty electric truck, which is set to join Hyundai’s ever-growing local electrified vehicle line-up in mid-2023.

The zero-emission Mighty electric will join Kona Electric, IONIQ 5 and the soon-to-arrive IONIQ 6 state-of-the art EVs, with expressions of interest to be coordinated through Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) directly.

A continuation of Hyundai’s sustainable commercial vehicle momentum, Mighty electric follows on from XCIENT Fuel Cell, the brand’s first-ever hydrogen-powered heavy truck, currently deployed in Switzerland and California.

The truck has an estimated laden range of approximately 240km and is the ideal zero-emission workhorse for metropolitan and last-mile deliveries.

The 120kW, 320Nm traction motor is powered by a 114.5kWh battery system with rapid charging capability – 10% to 100% in under 70 minutes.

This technology gives Mighty electric capabilities that perfectly complement those of the long-haul, heavy load XCIENT Fuel Cell prime mover, which HMCA is studying for a potential trial in Australia.

This truck will help drive an expansion in emissions-free commercial transport options by demonstrating its driveability and everyday practicality, while helping to reduce the carbon footprint of transport and logistics operations in Australia.

Heavy vehicles

Heavy vehicles make up only four percent of the national vehicle fleet, yet ICE heavy vehicles are responsible for 25 percent of all vehicle emissions in Australia. This means each Mighty electric will have a disproportionately large impact on total emissions reduction.

The arrival of this efficient and effective electric truck will mark another important step towards Hyundai Motor Company’s global ambition to be carbon neutral in products and operations by 2045.

“We are excited to announce Mighty electric truck for Australia as a key step in driving growth in emissions-free commercial vehicles,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Ted Lee said.

“Mighty electric will bolster our growing EV line-up and underlines Hyundai’s continuing commitment to developing sustainable mobility solutions,” he said.

In addition to its efficient EV technology the Mighty electric represents the latest in cab, including comfort and convenience features such as a digital dash display, a multi-function steering wheel and a suspended driver’s seat.

Safety Features

It comes packed with safety technology features including:

Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA): On detecting a collision risk with the vehicle ahead, FCA will warn the driver, and then automatically apply the brakes to avoid or reduce the severity of a collision

Lane Departure Warning System (LDW): The front camera monitors the painted lane markers and if the vehicle begins to drift out of the lane LDW alerts the driver with an audible alarm and a visual alert

Electronic Stability Control (ESC): On detecting tyre slip, ESC stabilises the vehicle to prevent loss of directional control

Electronic Air Brake System (EBS): A full Electronic Air Brake System in Mighty electric features an air-activated wheel parking brake, for optimal performance

Mighty electric Cargo Capacity

Classed as a Light Duty Heavy Truck (3,501 – 8,000kg GVM) and has an approximate cargo capacity between one and 3.5 tonne, depending on the variant and upper body specification.

From launch, the Mighty electric line-up will be available in a single 7,300kg Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) variant, in 4×2 configuration with a 3,300mm wheelbase.

Bare cab-chassis, tray or pantech (regular or refrigerated) versions will be offered for Australian customers – a tipper variant is also currently under study.

Mighty Electric Register your interest

Mighty electric production for Australia is set to start in Q2 2023, with final specifications and pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.

Customers can register their interest in Mighty electric at:

Nissan X-Trail e-POWER with e-4ORCE brings the next stage of Nissan’s electrified product to Australia. The e-POWER refers to the engine and battery relationship and the e-4ORCE refers to twin electric motors that drive all four wheels.

In short there is a small, turbocharged petrol engine that charges the small 2.1Kw/h battery. This battery drives all four wheels through electric motors.

The benefit is the ICE (internal combustion engine), operates at peak efficiency, the driving characteristics are of an EV, meaning instant power and torque and there is less environmental damage due to the smaller battery size.

Nissan’s most technologically advanced SUV to date delivers a true EV-like drive experience without ever needing to plug in.. Like a hybrid there is no range anxiety

Is it a Hybrid?

Unlike conventional hybrid systems, Nissan’s innovative e-POWER technology delivers a constant EV-like drive experience, thanks to the driven wheels being powered only by the electric motors, so response is always instant, linear and smooth.

“This is a true best-of-both world’s solution, delivering the smooth and immediate acceleration of an EV, only without ever needing to plug in,” says Nissan Australia Managing Director Adam Paterson.

“The Nissan X-Trail e-POWER with e-4ORCE isn’t an evolution of an ICE powertrain, it’s a true bridge to Nissan’s fully electrified BEVs, like the LEAF or Ariya, delivering an EV-like drive experience, along with the confidence to travel as far as you need to.

“But efficiency doesn’t come at the cost of excitement. This is a premium SUV that delivers plenty of driving fun, along with all the technology and practicality on offer across the entire all-new X-Trail family.”

Designed to act as flagship models in the X-Trail range, the e-POWER with e-4ORCE powertrain is available on the generously equipped X-Trail Ti and Ti-L trim levels.

While two-wheel-drive versions are available overseas, Australia will exclusively take e-4ORCE twin-motor all-wheel-drive variants, in keeping with the model’s flagship standing in the X-Trail range.

Powering your tomorrow: What is e-POWER?

The X-Trail’s e-POWER with e-4ORCE system is comprised of a high-output 2.1kWh battery integrated with a turbo-petrol engine, power generator, inverter and twin electric motors (150kW front axle, 100kW rear axle with a combined system output of 157kW).

This unique and future-facing powertrain means that power to the wheels comes only from the electric motors, which results in instant, linear response to the accelerator, and impressive fuel efficiency of just 6.1L/100km^ (combined).

The power for the electric motors and battery is generated by a highly advanced variable compression turbocharged petrol engine which runs quietly in the background to feed the battery, which then supplies power to the electric motors via an inverter.

The engine is compact and lightweight, and is engineered to deliver high torque from low RPMs. The X-Trail’s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine acts as the perfect generator.

The unique element of e-POWER is that the petrol engine is used solely to generate electricity, while the wheels are completely driven by the electric motor. This means the engine can always run within its optimal range, leading to superior fuel efficiency in urban settings.

Under heavy acceleration, and when the battery is low, the petrol engine will deliver power not just to the battery, but to the electric motors, ensuring consistent acceleration no matter the battery status or driving conditions.

Pure electric motor drive

Thanks to the pure electric motor drive, there’s no delay as with an internal combustion engine or traditional hybrid. The instant response delivers exhilarating high torque feel and agile acceleration to make overtaking or merging onto a highway easier and more confidence-inspiring.

Integral to the design of the e-POWER installation is the linear tune, which governs the operation of the petrol engine, ensuring that it’s spinning at an appropriate speed relative to road speed, avoiding the “rev-up” effect of traditional hybrids under hard acceleration.

A secondary benefit is the refinement it brings, ensuring the engine is running only at the speed it needs to, which is typically low in urban and suburban conditions.

The X-Trail’s EV Mode allows a near-silent EV-like drive experience at much higher speeds (up to 100km/h) than conventional hybrids, while a twist-dial Drive Mode Selector provides five driving modes – Off-Road, Snow, Auto, Eco and Sport.

In addition to these benefits, the e-POWER drive system guarantees a quiet drive, for example at 40 km/h the sound in the car reduces significantly when compared to ICE-powered variants.

The future of AWD: What is e-4ORCE?

A new all-wheel-drive system designed to work exclusively with Nissan’s electrified powertrains is introduced on the all-new X-Trail e-POWER, with e-4ORCE delivering reassuring traction and confident acceleration in all conditions thanks to Nissan’s most advanced AWD technology.

The “e” in e-4ORCE signifies that the system was developed to work solely with Nissan’s electrified powertrains. Indeed, it will also be offered on Nissan’s 100% electric Ariya.

The powerful dual e-motor system has a total output of 157kW thanks to the addition of the rear motor, which allows for keen acceleration, with a zero-100km/h time of just 7.0 seconds. It also has a rear torque response that is up to 10,000 times faster than a mechanical 4WD system.

In addition, the constant torque redistribution, including torque vectoring side to side, and near-perfect weight balance contribute to reassuring handling and ride comfort, enabling a powerful yet smooth, driving experience.

With power distributed almost instantly according to the prevailing conditions, the driver and passengers will be unaware of the system working to maximise traction and control. Indeed, the system will be working even in apparently benign conditions.

e-4ORCE twin-motor all-wheel-drive system

The e-4ORCE twin-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers reassuring traction and confident acceleration in all conditions. The system doesn’t just unlock capability, but also delivers better grip, traction and turning ability, enhancing ride and handling.

By specifically managing power output and braking performance for each wheel, e-4ORCE sends power to the outer wheels in a turn, ensuring agility and stability, which results in the vehicle tracing the intended driving line. This advanced traction management is constantly active, giving stability and traction in all driving scenarios, such as damp, muddy, oily, icy and snowy roads.

Engineers fine-tuned the precision control technology and twin electric motors of e-4ORCE to provide unparalleled ride comfort. Vehicle pitch and dive are reduced by adding regenerative braking via the rear motor.

In addition to optimising front and rear torque allocation, the system applies independent brake control at each of the four wheels to maximise the cornering force generated by each one. This delivers cornering that faithfully follows driver intentions with minimal steering adjustments.

Key benefits:

e-4ORCE delivers faster take off

Linear engine tuning matches acceleration with RPMs, eliminating rubber-band feeling

Constant torque redistribution and near-perfect weight distribution (51.8% F 48.2% R)

One-pedal driving: What is e-Pedal Step?

Given the majority of the X-Trail’s driving time is expected to be in urban areas, Nissan developed an entirely new ‘one pedal’ driving experience called e-Pedal Step.

Designed to take the repetitive strain out of stop-start urban driving, where the driver is frequently moving their foot between the accelerator and brake, e-Pedal Step allows drivers to accelerate and brake using only the accelerator.

The system must first be activated by the switch on the centre console and once engaged — at speeds above 10km/h — the accelerator will deliver acceleration as usual. Upon release of the accelerator, e-Pedal Step will brake the X-Trail at 0.2g, enough to illuminate the brake lights, and reduce the speed down to a “creeping” speed, not a complete stop. This ensures low-speed parking manoeuvres are as smooth as possible.

Outside of the city, when Sport mode is activated, the e-Pedal Step helps deliver a more exciting, and more engaging, drive experience, allowing the driver to slow or accelerate using only one pedal, without having to use the brake.

Dressed to impress: X-Trail e-POWER with e-4ORCE design

Central to X-Trail’s appeal over the previous three generations has been its distinctive styling which projects a reassuring sense of solidity and robustness, without being overly aggressive.

Both the exterior and interior of the new X-Trail reflect the spirit of the vehicle – versatile and adventurous. The exterior is highlighted by signature Nissan design elements such as the floating roof and V-motion grille — while a unique grille treatment applies to e-POWER models.

The frontal aspect is framed by striking headlights that appear moulded within the bodywork of the front bumper, with combined daytime running lights and indicators nestled along the shut-line of the hood.

From the side, muscular wheel arches at the front and rear give the X-Trail presence on the road, while at the base of the doors, an inset feature brings a sense of fluidity to the sheer surfaces of the doors.

The shape of the C-pillar is reminiscent of a dolphin fin, bringing tension to the rear where the wrap-around lights complete the rear three-quarter aspect.

From behind, a taut horizontal line sits just above and below where the number plate is mounted, while split rear lights ensure a wide aperture for the boot. A silver panel curves under the rear bumper, reflecting X-Trail’s adventurous character.

Key aerodynamic features include “3D” tyre deflectors in the lower front fascia, an active grille shutter to control air flow into the engine compartment, special A-pillar shaping, underbody covers to manage air flow under the vehicle and a unique “air curtain” that precisely directs air flow from the front to the sides of the X-Trail.

Premium Cabin ambience in the X-Trail e-POWER with e-4ORCE

The cabin of the all-new Nissan X-Trail sets a new segment standard for elevated ambience, distinctive design and enhanced usability.

Advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies are at the driver’s fingertips, with comfort and quality in every touch. New premium materials, smart features and considered detailing enhance a cabin that delivers cutting-edge design and practicality in every dimension.

Extensive attention has been paid to the ergonomic and tactile quality of the switch gear and buttons to give them a high quality feel. Customer research has clearly shown customers’ preference for easy-to-use core functions, so the X-Trail has simple, intuitive heating/air-conditioning controls, as well as buttons that govern the central screen functions, such as audio and navigation.

The top level of the floating centre console layout features the e-shifter, the drive mode selector and twin cup holders, as well as the 15w wireless charge pad for smartphones+. The charge pad actively charges your phone, rather than simply maintaining your battery level.

There is a combined elbow rest for front-seat occupants, which has a “butterfly” opening, to reveal a cavernous storage space for valuables. The side opening elements allow easy access to the storage area for rear-seat passengers, unlike a rear-hinged lid.

Underneath, the upper tier of the floating console is storage for items such as a handbag or tablet. Making it easier to store smaller items and creating optimal space usage because in a family car you can never have enough storage.

Creating a reassuring and calming environment, new white ambient lighting is used throughout the cabin, with its uniformity giving a premium and harmonious impression.

The larger, higher resolution 12.3 inch display screen is a digital gateway to navigation, entertainment and vehicle settings, and is compatible with both Android AutoTM and Apple CarPlay®, with wireless Apple CarPlay® also introduced.

A new high-definition, fully electronic 12.3 inch TFT multi-information screen offers a choice of configurable layouts to display navigation, entertainment, traffic or vehicle information, all controlled from a new tactile dial switch on the steering wheel.

In X-Trail e-POWER models, drivers can also choose the “Energy Flow” screen, which delivers a visual representation of the e-POWER system at work.

A traditional “Kiriko” cut glass texture is also added to the TFT’s digital background – a nod to Nissan’s Japanese DNA.

An innovative new 10.8-inch (windscreen type) Head-Up Display (HUD) provides the biggest-in-segment image size. Key navigation, driver assistance and road information are projected onto the windscreen within the driver’s line of vision.

Connectivity extends to all occupants with the console box now offering front and rear USB charging connections with both USB-A and USB-C ports.

Practically perfect and endlessly flexible

To make it easier to load items, install a children’s seat, or get comfortable in the car, the access to the second row seats is now even more accessible due to the rear passenger doors opening to 85 degrees.

Second row passengers are well catered for with dedicated controls for the heating/air-conditioning system, taking care of occupant comfort, which is vital in a family car.

A key component to ensure a harmonious family trip is a steady supply of power to keep electronic devices nourished. For second row occupants, there is a USB type-A and a USB type-C charging point. Parents of babies and toddlers will appreciate the inclusion of integrated sun-blinds into the rear passenger doors (available on Ti-L model only), offering protection on sunny days with an easy one-handed operation.

The sizeable boot space on offer puts the X-Trail among the top-runners in its category for luggage space with a total capacity of 575 litres — just 10 litres less than the ICE X-Trail — thanks to a best-in-class floor length and also width between wheelhouses. The improvements in the utility of the luggage area make loading baggage easier and the storing of small items more convenient. Additionally, the modularity of the two luggage boards offers 16 different layouts, for optimal space usage.

A powered tailgate, which is hands-free on Ti-L models, makes accessing the boot effortless.

State-of-the-art foundations: The CMF-C platform

Like the all-new Qashqai, the all-new X-Trail is based on the Alliance CMF-C platform, which represents a state-of-the-art automotive structure and technology architecture.

In terms of construction, the body in white makes use of more lightweight material, as well as advanced stamping and welding techniques to increase strength but to also reduce weight. For the first time, the rear hatchback door on the X-Trail is now made of a composite material.

The front and rear doors, front fenders and hood, are all now made of aluminium.

This contributes to refinement, ride comfort and driving response typically found in a higher segment, plus exceptional security in the event of an accident – as well as adding benefits to the car’s overall efficiency.

New suspension and steering design

The all-new X-Trail will continue to offer a rewarding driving experience – building on its reputation as a refined and cosseting drive, but nevertheless, enjoyable when the road turns twisty.

Thanks to the CMF-C platform, the new X-Trail has an updated Macpherson strut set-up at the front. Rear suspension is an advanced multi-link set-up.

The power-steering set-up has been upgraded, offering improved response, better feeling around the central part of the steering range and reduced friction.

Standard functions include Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control with Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Auto Emergency Braking (with pedestrian and cyclist calibration), Junction Assist, and Driver Attention Alert.

A Rear Seat Alert function advises the driver instantly when a rear door is opened or closed while the vehicle is in motion. The system records if a rear door was opened, and activates a timer once the driver’s door is closed, sounding an alarm if the rear door remains unlatched.

A seventh far-side airbag, protecting the space between the front seat passengers, has been added to the X-Trail six-airbag passive safety system.

Also new for X-Trail e-POWER models is an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System, which lets other road users know an electrified vehicle is approaching when the X-Trail is operating in near-silent EV Mode.

The X-Trail has been awarded a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

ProPILOT<sup>=</sup> semi-autonomous driving

Both X-Trail e-POWER with e-4ORCE models are equipped with the next generation of ProPILOT= driver assistance, bringing greater driver support in a wider array of circumstances. The system has been designed to reduce fatigue and stress while driving, while being very intuitive to use.

ProPILOT= is able to accelerate and brake the vehicle within a single-lane on a highway. The system can accelerate the vehicle to cruise at a set speed, and can brake the vehicle down to 0km/h in heavy stop-start traffic. The system is able to resume automatically if the vehicle has been stationary for less than three seconds and the traffic in front of the car moves away.

Lexus LS 500 – A few weeks ago we drove the Lexus LS 500 limousine. It comes in two engine choices, a V6 Petrol, and a Hybrid version. Each engine choice comes in either a F Sport or Sport Luxury configuration.

Given that the LS is the pinnacle for the Lexus range they have thrown everything in there and its luxurious and extremely comfortable.

Its hard to choose whether to sit in the drivers seat or be chauffeured around in the spacious rear seat with its extendable foot rest and massage functions.

The LS is powered by the smooth 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine producing 310kW and a sublime 600Nm from 1600-4800 rpm.

Or the LS 500h features a naturally aspirated V6 of the same capacity with a multi-stage hybrid system offering 264 kW for the perfect blend of performance and economy.

This drives through a 10 speed AT, that matches perfectly to the engine characteristics.

Given that this is meant for executive transport one little niggle was that the rear seat entertainment screens seemed a little intrusive and would perhaps be better integrated into the front head rests.

The Lexus LS 500 is in a rarefied segment of large limousine style vehicles.

Pricing for the LS is from a little over $195,000 through to a little over $202,000 plus the usual costs.

Ferrari has long been a leader in the luxury car market, offering drivers thrilling performance and sleek aesthetics. So, when Ferrari unveiled its latest model — the 2022 Ferrari 296GTB, a hybrid sports car — it was no surprise that it quickly became one of the most talked-about cars on the market.

But how does it perform? Is it worth the hefty price tag? In this review, we will take an in-depth look at all aspects of the 2022 Ferrari 296GTB to give you a better idea of what to expect from this stunning supercar.

What is new for the 2022 Ferrari 296GTB?

The all-new Ferrari 296GTB is the latest addition to the company’s lineup of high-performance sports cars.

It features a redesigned exterior with a new front fascia, rear diffuser, and side skirts. The interior has been updated as well, with a new steering wheel, instrument cluster, and infotainment system.

The car also has the new 120° V6 engine coupled with a plug-in (PHEV) electric motor – all fine-tuned to produce more power than ever before.

Performance

Candela C-8 Polestar Power is available for order at candela.com.

Starting today, all ordered Candela C-8s will be equipped with Polestar batteries.

The new Candela C-8 ‘powered by Polestar’ is the first product from a partnership between Polestar (Nasdaq: PSNY) and Candela. The two Swedish premium mobility brands reached an agreement in August 2022 for Polestar to supply batteries and technology to power Candela’s electric hydrofoil boats.

The Candela ‘powered by Polestar’ is intended to use the same 69 kWh battery pack and DC charging technology as the Polestar 2 Standard range Single motor. Candela expects range of up to 57 nautical miles on one charge at a cruising speed of 22 knots, comparing favourably with internal combustion engine powerboats, and with a high-speed range 2-3 times longer than conventional electric speedboats.

“With batteries from Polestar, the Candela C-8 becomes the first electric vessel that can travel to destinations that were previously only reachable by combustion engine boats. The Candela C-8 powered by Polestar marks a significant breakthrough for electrification at sea,” says Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and founder of Candela.

Candela C-8 and Polestar combination

This high electric performance at sea is possible thanks to a combination of innovative technology from both Candela and Polestar. The Candela C-8 uses an efficient direct drive pod motor – the Candela C-POD – and ‘flies’ on computer-guided hydrofoils that lift the hull above the water at high speeds, reducing energy consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional motorboats.

In addition to the 69-kWh battery pack from Polestar 2, Polestar also supplies DC fast charging technology for the Candela C-8, as well as sharing Research and Development capabilities to integrate the technology and software in a marine application to transfer it from land to sea.

“Sharing know-how on batteries and vehicle engineering with Candela will help reach our shared goal of transitioning to a future where all forms of transport are sustainable,” says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar.

The supply of batteries and charging componentry to a third party in this way is a first for Polestar as an EV manufacturer and extends Polestar’s efforts to drive sustainable electric mobility beyond the automotive industry.

Polestar is giving the 5-door electric performance fastback, Polestar 2, a major update. For the 2024 model year, the premium compact EV features a new high-tech front end that reflects the design language premiered by Polestar 3. Substantial performance increases with all-new electric motors, even more powerful batteries, sustainability improvements and, for the first time in a Polestar, rear-wheel drive.

New motors, refined ride and rear-wheel drive for single-motor versions

Quicker charging and longer range – now up to 635 km WLTP

Sustainability improvements reduce carbon impact by 1.1 tonnes

SmartZone debuts following introduction on Polestar 3

Driver Awareness features and wireless phone charger added to list of standard equipment

“Typically in the car industry, a facelift introduces superficial visual changes that often destroy the original intention of the car’s design theme. With the new model year Polestar 2, we rather went below the surface and upgraded substantial tech and mechanical components of the electric drivetrain. This is the best Polestar 2 yet, and with the updated front design with the new SmartZone, the best looking one, too,” says Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath.

Polestar 2 first entered the highly competitive premium EV market in 2019, blending Scandinavian design and excellent usability with fun driving characteristics and a dedication to sustainability. It was the first car in the world to feature an infotainment system powered by Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, an experience that continues to evolve and lead the industry. This unique mix of qualities quickly made Polestar 2 a customer favourite, available in 27 markets globally and having surpassed the 100,000 unit production mark in late 2022.

High-tech design tweaks

The SmartZone makes its debut on Polestar 2, signifying the shift from breathing to seeing and reflecting the high-tech nature of Polestar vehicles. Like on Polestar 3, the SmartZone hosts some of the vehicle’s most important active safety features, including the front facing camera and mid-range radar.

The 20-inch forged alloy wheels in the Performance Pack have been updated to align Polestar 2 in its sportiest expression with that of Polestar 3.

New motors, refined ride and rear-wheel drive

Next-generation electric motors and inverters are fitted to all Polestar 2 variants, offering substantial increases in both efficiency and performance. Single-motor variants are now rear-wheel driven, powered by a newly developed permanent magnet motor and silicon carbide inverter.

The new motor has a power output of up to 220 kW (increased from 170 kW) and is optimised for maximum efficiency and high torque (490 Nm, up from 330 Nm) to further increase the dynamic performance of the car. The 0-100 km/h sprint time has been reduced by as much as 1.2 seconds, down to 6.2 seconds.

The dual-motor version now has a rear-drive bias that increases driving pleasure and performance thanks to a completely re-balanced drivetrain setup and torque-ratio.

The new rear motor is the primary drive source, supported on the front axle by a new asynchronous motor. This enables higher total system output of 310 kW and 740 Nm (increased from the original 300 kW and 660 Nm), vastly improved traction, greater overall efficiency and higher performance – 0-100 km/h is achieved in 4.5 seconds.

Supporting efficiency gains, the front motor can now be disengaged completely when not needed. When the driver wants more power, the front motor re-engages instantly and seamlessly.

Up to 350 kW are available with the optional Performance Pack, and a 0-100 km/h sprint time as low as just 4.2 seconds. The increase in power, performance and driving enjoyment is also available to purchase as a downloadable over-the-air performance software upgrade for any eligible Long range Dual motor cars.

“Changing from front- to rear-wheel drive in the single-motor variants, and re-calibrating the torque ratio in the dual-motor variant for an increased rear-wheel drive feel, elevates the Polestar 2 driving experience to a whole new level,” says Joakim Rydholm, Head of Chassis Development at Polestar. “The updated Polestar 2 is an even more playful and agile car, retaining its compactness and complete sense of control, while at the same time becoming more mature with added comfort.”

Better range and quicker charging

All Polestar 2 versions feature upgraded lithium-ion batteries, with a positive impact on efficiency and capacity as well as charging times. Long-range versions now feature 82 kWh batteries from CATL with 27 modules. The battery for standard-range versions retains a capacity of 69 kWh with 24 modules, and is now supplied by LG Chem

The updated batteries benefit from a redesigned battery disconnect unit, upgraded busbars and improved cell chemistry – enabling faster charging rates of up to 205 kW DC for long-range batteries and 135 kW for the standard-range battery.

Range improvements are in effect for all versions due to the larger and improved batteries, and the optimisation of power delivery from the more powerful motors. The front motor disconnect function on the Long range Dual motor variant is particularly effective at maximising range, which is now up to 592 km WLTP1, a significant increase of 105 km.

The Standard range Single motor version is now capable of up to 518 km WLTP1, an increase of 40 km, and the Long range Single motor variant can now achieve up to 635 km WLTP1, an increase of 84 km.

More performance with lower impact

Despite the larger batteries, more powerful motors, longer range and more exciting performance, carbon emissions for versions with the new 82 kWh battery have come down by 1.1 tonnes to 5.9 tonnes per car (previously 7 tonnes per car), thanks to improved cell chemistry. A full life cycle assessment (LCA) is planned later in 2023.

Revised standard equipment increases value

Standard equipment in Polestar 2 has been revised to increase overall value as well as convenience. Driver Awareness features are now standard, including Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with steering support, Cross Traffic Alert with brake support, and Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation, along with the 360-degree surround view camera and automatic dimming exterior mirrors. The wireless phone charger is now also standard on all versions.

Australian customers will be able to order the model year 2024 Polestar 2 in the second quarter of 2023 via Polestar.com. First deliveries are expected in the third quarter of 2023.

I-PACE details

Since its debut the Jaguar I-PACE has won more than 90 global awards, including the unprecedented treble at the 2019 World Car of the Year Awards, winning World Car Design of the Year, World Green Car and World Car of the Year, reinforcing its status as the benchmark all-electric performance SUV.

With a low centre of gravity, advanced suspension systems and compact, efficient electric motors on each axle, I-PACE offers an unrivalled balance of all-wheel drive performance, refinement and agility – together with impressive real-world range and exceptional comfort and day-to-day usability. The vehicle’s technology and features have continually improved using seamless software-over-the-air updates – with more still to come.

Now, I-PACE has been subtly enhanced, with a more distinctive design, richer specifications, the addition of R-Dynamic models and – for the first time – striking satin paints in a choice of two metallic colours.

Nick Collins, Executive Director, Vehicle Programmes, said: “I-PACE has always offered a comprehensive package of performance, agility, technology and everyday usability that customers expect from a Jaguar, together with the smooth, quiet and effortless driving experience that electrification offers. We’ve delivered exactly that, and now it’s our latest model to benefit from our approach of offering more curated, richer specifications.

“Looking to the future we’re applying the know-how from our electrified vehicle programmes and accelerated technological development enabled by our collaborative partnership with the Jaguar TCS Racing Team to reimagine Jaguar as an all-electric modern luxury brand from 2025.”

Refreshed Design

The I-PACE’s cab-forward profile, short overhangs and taut, muscular haunches are instantly recognisable and set it apart from other all-electric SUVs. This award-winning design has now evolved, with subtle, carefully considered enhancements which deliver even greater presence.

The front grille now has a smooth form, in striking Atlas Grey. Replacing the previous gloss black lozenge pattern, this gives a simpler, cleaner finish to the front of the vehicle while strengthening its inherently electric DNA. Atlas Grey is also applied to the vertical blades at the outside of the front apertures. A further detail change is the new black and silver Jaguar badge in the grille.

The front bumper finishers, lower door finishers and rear diffuser are now body-colour instead of Gloss Black. This treatment serves to simplify and refine the design while taking away visual mass.

All wheels offered on I-PACE as standard equipment are now diamond-turned, while the striking 22-inch Style 5069 wheel now has a Satin Grey finish to complement its carbon fibre inserts.

Perfectly complementing theses updates is the exterior Black Pack. Now standard on both models, the R-Dynamic SE and the R-Dynamic HSE, the Gloss Black finish is applied to the grille surround, window surrounds, door mirror caps and rear badges.

There’s also the option of a contrast panoramic roof, which for the first time enables customers to specify a black finish for the rear section of the roof – until now body-coloured – to complement the sweeping glass panel.

Customers can also specify satin paints for the first time. Offered in a choice of Eiger Grey or new Carpathian Grey, these finishes give I-PACE a sophisticated, contemporary look.

Performance and Dynamics

I-PACE delivers a true Jaguar driving experience. With light, compact and efficient electric motors integrated into the front and rear axles, I-PACE can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.8 seconds and up to maximum speed of 200km/h.

Delivering comfort and agility without compromise is what has always made Jaguar unique. I-PACE’s advanced double wishbone front- and Integral Link rear suspension are fundamental to this dynamic capability, together with the low centre of gravity and light, stiff aluminium body structure. Optional Air suspension with Adaptive Dynamics electronically-controlled damping enhances ride and handling still further.

Range and Charging

I-PACE’s 90kWh Lithium-ion battery delivers a range of up to 446km range (NEDC)3.

Customers with three-phase electricity and an 11kW home wall box can achieve a full charge in only 8.6 hours.

Preconditioning is another easy-to-use technology that enhances the driving experience. While the vehicle is plugged in it automatically heats or cools the battery to its ideal temperature and does the same for the interior, ready for the start of your journey.

Using power from the mains instead of from the battery is more energy efficient and maximises range. Together with the timed charging functions, preconditioning can be set either using the vehicle touchscreen or the Jaguar Remote App – this has now been updated, making it even simpler to use.

Infotainment and connectivity

Inside I-PACE’s spacious interior there’s all the technology you need to make every journey more enjoyable. Both models have the fast, intuitive Pivi Pro infotainment system, offering seamless connectively through wireless Apple CarPlay®, Wireless Android Auto, integrated Alexa voice control and what3words navigation. Pivi Pro – together with other systems throughout the vehicle – is always up to date thanks to software-over-the-air updates.

The 2024 Model Year I-PACE range comprises of R-Dynamic SE and R-Dynamic HSE.

I-PACE Australian Suggested Retail Pricing:

R-Dynamic SE: $148,800 + ORCs
R-Dynamic HSE: $165,600 +ORCs

Ampol Partners with SEA Electric to Charge Australia’s Future Commercial Fleets

In an industry first, Ampol has partnered with Australian commercial electric vehicle manufacturer SEA Electric to support the transition of companies to zero-emissions commercial electric vehicle technology.

Through the partnership, SEA Electric and Ampol will be working together to develop flexible, sustainable and seamless charging options to support the uptake of lower emissions commercial vehicles in key parts of the transport sector.

The partnership will also focus on building an integrated charging solution for SEA Electric customers on the road at Ampol forecourts, at destinations and solutions at the workplace.

James Myatt, Ampol’s General Manager, Energy, said Ampol will work with SEA Electric and leverage its knowledge and strong relationships across industries to help support commercial vehicle owners’ decarbonisation goals.

“Ampol is evolving to provide a range of fast and reliable charging solutions. We know our business customers are looking for lower emissions solutions and want to ensure their investment in commercial electric vehicles can be supported with efficient and reliable charging technologies,” Myatt said.

“Ampol is committed to developing an open access national charging network as well as home and business charging solutions to ensure vehicles can be on the road whenever needed.”

Ampol and SEA Electric reduce range anxiety

For SEA Electric, the partnership provides flexible charging options for electric truck owners, with many Ampol customers moving into the EV space in cars and now with light trucks. The partnership will help reduce range anxiety for businesses looking to invest in electric trucks to reduce their emissions.

“SEA Electric is proud to partner with Ampol on this project, as both companies lead the country in the transition to sustainable transport,” Bill Gillespie, SEA Electric President, Asia Pacific Region said.

“Through this collaboration, we are shining a light on the fact that electric powered truck fleets can be operationally flexible by accessing convenient charging infrastructure through the AmpCharge network.

“At SEA Electric, we are building an entire customer led ecosystem to simplify the transition to electrification, with a SEA Electric trained national dealer network for sales and service, full factory warranty, 24/7 support and roadside assistance, and a range of charging options at base or on the road.

“Ampol should be applauded for taking the lead with its future energy and mobility strategy, and we look forward to working together into the future on expanding the initiative.”

Kia EV6 GT Overview

The EV6 GT’s expressive exterior design features a series of sporty touches and aesthetic enhancements that hint at the vehicle’s performance attributes. Step inside and occupants are greeted with a focused yet comfortable space that features state-of-the-art tech designed to meet the needs of the driver and passengers

Powering the GT is a front-axle-mounted motor delivering 160kW. This is paired with a powerful new rear-mounted motor producing 270kW, to deliver a combined power output of 430kW and 740 Nm of torque.

The total power output of the EV6 GT is a remarkable 80% higher than that of the next most powerful EV6 variant, the AWD dual-motor model, which has 239kW and 605 Nm of torque (front and rear motors combined).

The EV6 GT can cover the 0-100 km/h sprint in a blistering 3.5 seconds and it has a top speed that peaks at 260 km/h. Despite the enhanced performance potential, driving range is an impressive 424 km WLTP.

The EV6 GT’s design delivers something different with a distinctive, impactful exterior complete with subtle high-tech features.

At the front, the EV6 GT instantly creates a lasting visual impression. Kia’s signature ‘Digital Tiger Face’ includes Intelligent Front Lighting System (IFS) LED head lights and sequential turn indicators, while muscular fenders and clamshell bonnet lend the EV6 GT a powerful look. A revised front bumper, unique to the GT, helps to emphasise the vehicle’s width and a stable, planted stance.

The new Intelligent Front-lighting System (IFS) uses the front view camera to recognise oncoming and preceding vehicles. The system reduces the risk of dazzling oncoming or preceding vehicles with high beam by controlling individual LEDs within each headlight. In a Kia Australia first, vehicles with IFS also feature sequential indicators.

The vehicle’s sporty character is also communicated via a set of five-spoke 21-inch alloy wheels unique to the EV6 GT, while striking neon green brake calipers signal awesome stopping power. At the rear, an aero spoiler, statement LED taillights and a unique bumper complete the GT transformation.

*Bolded highlights are new and exclusive to the EV6 GT variant.

Kia EV6 GT Dynamics

The EV6 GT is Kia’s first fully electric GT vehicle and the second Kia model (after the Stinger GT) to feature Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS). ECS controls the vehicle dampers to maximise driving comfort and handling performance for the road conditions. The vehicles dampers are automatically adjusted according to the vehicle speed, road surface, cornering, stopping and acceleration requirements.

The system also helps to mitigate body roll when cornering and can limit squat and dive during rapid acceleration or braking.

The initial stages of tuning the EV6 GT commenced in Europe with a very smooth road biased and European tuned car. The Australian product and tuning team travelled to Germany and searched for ‘B grade’ roads replicating Australian roads, an essential element in transforming the vehicle into a GT capable of coping with rough, country roads.

Kia’s new dynamic halo however needed to retain track worthiness, which is where the famous Nürburgring came into play, providing validation the car was competent in GT mode. No concerns there with lap after lap driven in a confident, grippy and stable EV6 GT. The initial tuning in Germany locked in the hard parts including the hydraulic tune of the shock absorbers.

Three ECS modes (Normal/Sport/GT) were then fine-tuned extensively on roads in and around Sydney & Canberra, each with their own unique characteristics that are well suited to typical Australian road & driving characteristics providing excellent rough, urban and country road performance, handling & ride quality.

An Electronic Limited Slip Differential (E-LSD) helps to control the differential function of the rear wheels to help:

Improve steering performance when turning at high speed.

Improve launching performance.

Prevent slipping on rainy or snowy roads due to dissimilar friction of the left and right wheels.

Kia EV6 GT drive mode

The characteristics of the E-LSD also vary according to the drive mode selected.

GT Drive Mode automatically configures the vehicle’s e-motors, brakes, steering, the Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS), e-LSD and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems into their most dynamic settings, transforming the character and response of the car, and providing a highly engaging experience.

Drivers can further tailor the various power and suspension control systems to suit their individual driving preferences by accessing the My Drive Mode.

Drift Mode (when activated) sends 100% of torque to the rear wheels to allow the vehicle to easily drift around corners with a small steering input. When exiting a corner, power can be distributed to the front wheels again to improve acceleration. Drift Mode should only be used on a private road/closed circuit in a controlled environment.

An uprated, highly responsive performance braking system that maximises regenerative braking enhances the feeling of confidence and security behind the wheel of the EV6 GT. As well as providing exceptional and consistent deceleration from high speeds.

The GT variant of EV6 features double ball joint front suspension to allow for bigger brakes and a virtual steering axis resulting in better steering feel:

New four-piston high performance calipers at the front – Neon Green

380mm ventilated front discs (325mm on Air & GT-Line)

360mm ventilated rear discs (325mm on Air & GT-Line)

In addition, an Integrated Electric Booster (IEB) contributes to a reduction in braking distances, and the selectable brake mode (‘Normal’ or ‘Sport’) allows the driver to tailor the sensitivity of the brake pedal for a more responsive feel.

The new high-performance brake hardware integrates seamlessly with the regenerative brake system, which is officially calibrated to peak at 150 kW recuperation. When combined with active braking, the EV6 GT peaks at over 300 kW recuperation. As with the standard EV6, drivers can choose from multiple regenerative braking levels (none, 1 to 3, ‘i-PEDAL’, or auto mode), depending on the desired level of energy recuperation.

The Regenerative Braking Maximization (RBM) system expands the range of regenerative braking and uses cooperative control technology to actively use regenerative braking. The EV6 GT is the world’s first and only RBM that delivers a large amount of regenerative braking torque to the front and rear.

Furthermore, the EV6 GT RBM enables variable control of the regenerative braking ratio of the front and rear wheels. It is performed at a ratio of 50:50 to the front and rear wheels, and the regenerative braking ratio is variably controlled up to a maximum of 70:30 for the front and rear wheels, depending on the driving environment, such as the steering angle and brake operation.

More stable braking is possible through variable control. When in GT mode and driving in a harsh environment with a lot of acceleration and deceleration, it will be able to replace hydraulic braking rather than assisting the braking force. Regenerative braking plays the role of the main braking device and in turn preserves discs and pads and also maximises energy recuperation.

The EV6 GT gains its own variable gear ratio steering system, a highly communicative set-up that builds weight progressively as speeds increase. There are 2.3 turns lock-to-lock, compared to 2.67 for the standard EV6. In its most focused GT Mode setting, the EV6 GT’s steering system has been specially calibrated for dynamic driving by increasing sensitivity to inputs and delivering more immediate responses.

Additional bracing has been added to the GT for increased body stiffness resulting in improved vehicle response speeds and agile handling.
