The 2026 Mitsubishi ASX Aspire is a small SUV built on the Renault Captur, priced at $42,690 before on-road costs. It looks sharp, it matched its 6.4L/100km fuel claim over my week of commuting, and Mitsubishi backs it with up to 10 years of warranty, servicing and roadside assist. Worth weighing up before you buy: it’s petrol only in a class full of cheaper hybrids, the cabin is snug for the size of the car, and the reversing camera is poor at this price. We scored it 6.9 out of 10.

The Mitsubishi ASX Aspire is $42,690 before on-road costs, or around $46,800 drive-away depending on your state. I spent a week with one in Crystal White, mostly commuting between jobs. I also drove a grey 2017 ASX for years as an Uber car, so I know the old one well.

The new ASX is a Renault Captur underneath, with Mitsubishi’s grille, tuning and warranty on top. It sells in Australia’s busiest class, against the Toyota Corolla Cross, Hyundai Kona, MG ZS, GWM Haval Jolion and Chery Tiggo 4, and it costs about $13,000 more than the old ASX did. That’s hybrid money for a petrol car, and it’s the question hanging over everything else here.

A week with the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire

My week with the ASX was a working one. Most days I do a near-circle, home to one job, over to the second, then home, 60 to 70km a day on a mix of highway and normal roads. The ASX averaged 6.4L/100km doing it, which is exactly what Mitsubishi claims, and after seven days the tank still had about two fifths left. It takes 91, and I never once thought about fuel.

The feature I used most was the driver’s display. One of its layouts puts Google Maps straight into the 10.25-inch cluster, so your speed and the next turn sit in the same glance. I set it early and never changed it. Plenty of dearer cars still can’t do this.

The gearbox won me over too, which I didn’t expect to write on an eco site. It’s a seven-speed dual-clutch, so you can hold a gear as long as you want, feel the shift, then ease back into the acceleration. There’s a sense of flow to it that you never get in an EV or a hybrid, which are more on and off.

The controls took the longest. I switched the hazard lights on by accident and had to hunt for how to turn them off, and I’d changed the volume twice before I found the volume stalk. It’s Renault switchgear and it takes learning. It faded rather than festered, and by the end of the week the stalk was one of my favourite things in the car.

At some point I started wondering what it would be like to Uber in one of these. I got about 7.8L/100km out of my 2017 doing rideshare, so seeing the fuel consumption improve was nice. But the snug interior kept making me think about what kind of car I was in.

What does the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire look like?

The facelift is impressive. What sold me is the contrast: Crystal White paint against the black grille and the black details along the side skirts. It looks like Mitsubishi has widened the front around the fog lights too, and it gives the car real presence. My fiancée liked it straight away, and the old grey one has been sitting in our driveway for comparison the whole time.

The Aspire gets 18-inch alloys and privacy glass. Most of the shape is Renault’s, but the Mitsubishi front wears it well, and the whole thing hangs together far better than the boxy old model ever did.

What is the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire like inside?

It’s snug in here. My first word for it was claustrophobic, which is harsh, but the car feels sizable outside and doesn’t carry that through to the cabin. Part of it is the contrast with the barer, more open 2017 car.

The trim does its job: gloss black, grey cloth seats, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, and height adjustment on both front seats. The mirrors were fiddly to line up, and the extra convex section on their outer edge didn’t add much. The win is the buttons. Mitsubishi kept physical controls for most everyday functions, so I hardly went through the menus all week. I connected my phone and that was about it.

Storage

The front console floats, with the e-shifter on top and a shelf underneath holding the wireless charging pad. Below that there’s a bin with a sliding armrest, plus door bins, two cup holders and four bottle holders. Sensible rather than clever, which suits the car.

Rear seat and boot space

Rear legroom is something I know about in an ASX. I used to drive mine up to the Central Coast for Uber work, because there were fewer drivers and better surge rates, and you could tell the locals from the Sydney riders: locals sat up front, Sydney riders in the back. I adjusted that front seat for legroom so often I learned to push it back one-handed and let the brakes slide it forward again.

The new one would keep me in practice. Push the front seats back and there isn’t much room left behind them, so front occupants need to shift forward to give the back row space. The 60/40 bench slides fore and aft, which helps. I didn’t sit in the back myself this week, so I won’t tell you how it feels.

The boot is 484 litres, or 1,596 with the seats folded. One large suitcase fits lying down; add a second and it starts to block the view out the back window. There’s a split-level floor with hidden storage underneath, and no spare wheel, just an inflation kit, with a space-saver available as an accessory.

Technology and connectivity

The screen is the odd one out in this class, and my workmates said as much when I ran them home. It’s a 10.4-inch portrait touchscreen while everyone else goes wide, and I think Mitsubishi has it right. It’s not so tall that it blocks your view, and it’s big enough to use the Android Auto controls easily. Google is built in, so you get Maps, the Play store and “Hey Google”, plus wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.

The sound system surprised me. Six speakers, better than average for the class, though not enough for an audiophile. The reversing camera is the worst thing on the car: blurry, smudgy, and it catches light poorly. At this price it shouldn’t be.

The volume stalk deserves a mention once you’ve found it. Pressing volume up and down together to mute feels natural, and the rotary knob for changing selections is enjoyable to use, but dangerous if you like fidget spinners.

Highlighted Features

Google Maps in the cluster: turn-by-turn directions render in the driver’s display, not just the central screen.

Directional safety audio: alerts play from the speaker nearest the hazard, so a warning on your left comes from your left.

Welcome lighting: the “Hello and Goodbye” lighting and startup animation are a genuinely cool touch.

Engine and drivetrain

Every Australian ASX gets the same drivetrain: a 1.3-litre turbo four making 113kW and 270Nm, a seven-speed dual-clutch, front-wheel drive. No hybrid and no AWD anywhere in the range. It runs on 91, claims 6.4L/100km and 142g/km of CO2, and carries a 48-litre tank. The rest of the numbers live in the tables below.

What’s the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire like to drive?

Sensible. That’s my one-word summary. The 113kW turbo is adequate, it helps the car get moving when you need it, and it’s good enough to get everyone and more from A to B. It’s not thrilling and it’s not trying to be. The ride is quite soft despite the 18s, with a nice quiet way about it, and it soaks up speed bumps well.

The assists are gentle and stay out of the way. I did feel something limiting how much the wheels turn into a corner at times. I’ll treat that as an impression rather than a fact, because it’s most likely the stability systems working quietly.

The one thing I’d change is the driven wheels. I prefer AWD and think a car this size would suit it. No ASX here offers it, and neither do most of the hybrid rivals, so that’s my preference rather than a missing spec.

The dual-clutch is the interesting bit. The 2017 had a spongy but sensitive throttle that was hard to learn: too little and it crawled, too much and it lunged down a gear. This one is far better calibrated, though it still hangs on downhills, the classic dual-clutch habit. And there’s that flow from earlier, which I genuinely enjoyed. Does it feel like a $47,000 car from behind the wheel? Ehh, close but not quite.

Is the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire safe?

The ASX carries a 4-star ANCAP rating from 2025, based on Euro NCAP’s testing of the Renault Captur it shares a structure with. The old ASX had 5 stars, but that was earned under 2014 protocols, so the two don’t compare directly. ANCAP marked the new car down for weak driver chest protection in the frontal offset test, and named the missing centre airbag as the barrier to a fifth star. Child occupant protection scored 83 per cent.

On the road the systems are well judged. The collision detection isn’t over the top, and nothing nagged me all week. Standard kit includes:

Mi-Pilot semi-autonomous assist, bundling adaptive cruise, traffic jam assist and lane centering

Forward Collision Mitigation with pedestrian detection, plus emergency lane assist

Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Assist

Traffic Sign Recognition, driver attention alert, and front, rear and side parking sensors

How much does the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire cost?

The Aspire is $42,690 before on-road costs, around $46,800 drive-away, between the LS at $37,740 and the Exceed at $46,490. The problem is what else that money buys. The GWM Haval Jolion, Chery Tiggo 4 and MG ZS all offer hybrids from the high $30,000s drive-away, and the Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid starts at $37,440 before on-roads. All of them use less fuel.

The equipment list is genuinely long: 18-inch alloys, privacy glass, Google built in, the 10.25-inch digital cluster, wireless charging, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, height adjustment on both front seats and the full Mi-Pilot safety suite. There isn’t much missing. What’s missing is a hybrid badge and a lower price.

How much does the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire cost to run?

Mitsubishi’s answer to the price is the Diamond Advantage program: up to 10 years or 200,000km of warranty, 10 years of capped-price servicing, and up to 10 years of roadside assist. The condition is that every annual service happens at a Mitsubishi dealer, or the warranty drops back to 5 years and 100,000km. Services fall every 12 months or 15,000km, and cost $1,595 over five years or $3,893 over ten. No rival offers backing that long.

Fuel is honest. I saw the claimed 6.4L/100km on the trip computer over a week of real commuting, which at around $1.73 a litre for 91 works out to about $11 per 100km. The Corolla Cross hybrid claims 4.3, and over a 15,000km year that gap costs about $550 at the pump.

Final thoughts

If a mate asked me whether the ASX is worth the money, I’d say it depends on what you’re going after. If you care more about how it looks and drives than having a large interior, it’s not a bad choice. I just wouldn’t recommend it to large families.

On the rebadge question, I’ve been burned before. I bought a Holden Viva second-hand once without knowing it was a rebadged Daewoo, and I got the problems to match. The ASX handles that worry better than any rebadge I can think of, because ten years of warranty and servicing means someone else is carrying the risk, and European cars last well when they’re serviced on schedule.

It’s worth being honest about what that warranty is covering, though. The old ASX was bulletproof because it was simple. This one is a turbo engine and a dual-clutch, more complex and less proven, and dual-clutches have a fussy history. You’re not buying the old car’s durability for more money. You’re buying a new bet, with Mitsubishi backing it.

For value or economy, drive the GWM Haval H7 first. It’s near-identical money for a much bigger, more powerful hybrid with the same size boot, and the ASX’s only answer is the longer warranty. The Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida is the closer match if you want European character with a hybrid drivetrain, at more money again.

It’s quirky, and its clever designs are done so that you worry less, on road and off it.

Mitsubishi ASX Aspire — Frequently Asked Questions

Is the new Mitsubishi ASX a rebadged Renault?
Yes. The all-new ASX is built on the Renault Captur and shares its European underpinnings, 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine and much of its cabin. Mitsubishi adds its own Dynamic Shield front, its 10-year warranty and servicing program, and local tuning.

How much does the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire cost?
The ASX Aspire is priced at $42,690 before on-road costs, which works out to approximately $46,800 drive-away depending on your state. It sits in the middle of the range, between the LS at $37,740 and the Exceed at $46,490 (both before on-road costs).

How much fuel does the ASX Aspire use?
Mitsubishi claims 6.4 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, and over a week of mixed city and highway driving the ASX matched that figure almost exactly. It runs on 91 RON regular unleaded and carries a 48-litre tank.

Why is the Mitsubishi ASX only rated 4 stars by ANCAP?
ANCAP awarded the ASX 4 stars in 2025 using Euro NCAP data from the Renault Captur it shares its structure with. It was marked down for weak chest protection for the driver in the frontal offset test, with the absence of a centre airbag cited as the barrier to a fifth star. Child occupant protection scored a strong 83 per cent.

Is the Mitsubishi ASX Aspire worth buying?
It depends on what you value. The ASX is a peace-of-mind buy: sharp to look at, sensible to drive, and backed by a 10-year warranty, servicing and roadside program no rival matches. But it is petrol-only and asks similar money to hybrid rivals that use far less fuel, so value hunters should also drive the cheaper hybrids before signing.

The 2026 Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida has arrived to shake up a segment drowning in look-alike, feel-alike appliances.

The Junior is Alfa Romeo’s most audacious gamble in years. On paper, it sits on a shared Stellantis platform underneath the Peugeot 2008 and Jeep Avenger. In reality, it drives, looks, and feels like nothing else in the segment. Arriving at an indicative drive-away price of around $51,000 – $54,000 depending on state, it isn’t bargain territory for a light SUV. But you’re not paying for sheet metal — you’re paying for a dose of Italian soul that the other brands simply cannot replicate.

What does the 2026 Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida look like?

Indeed, the Junior is proof that good design transcends platform-sharing. At 4170mm long and 1780mm wide, it is genuinely compact — a full 360mm shorter than the Alfa Romeo Tonale — yet it wears its size confidently, with taut flanks, a bold Scudetto Leggenda shield grille, and sharp LED lighting that signals intent before you even turn the key.

Moreover, the exterior repays close attention. The glossy black body kit, the twin exhaust outlets (Ibrida only), the side-mounted number plate that pays homage to classic Alfa GT coupes, and the 18-inch Petali diamond-cut alloy wheels all earn lingering looks. Six exterior colours — all named after districts of Milan, a cheeky nod to the car’s short-lived “Milano” naming saga — include White Sempione, Black Tortona, Red Brera, Blue Navigli, Arese Steel, and Galleria Light Grey. Each one suits the Junior’s purposeful stance beautifully.

What is the 2026 Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida like inside?

Step inside, and the Junior’s Italian character doesn’t let up. The cabin carries a cockpit quality — the high centre console, the angled 10.25-inch infotainment screen tilted toward the driver, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel that is thin-rimmed and perfectly shaped. The Spiga interior trim in black cloth and leatherette with red contrast stitching injects warmth into what could otherwise feel like a cave. Aluminium pedals and door sills, soft-touch surfaces on the dash and upper doors, and ambient lighting all contribute to an atmosphere that is genuinely premium — well above what you find in the Mazda CX-3 or Toyota Yaris Cross.

Additionally, the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster renders crisp, twin-dial graphics in classic Alfa style. The matching central infotainment screen responds quickly, and its menu structure is logically arranged with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. A wireless charging pad is also included — a thoughtful touch for a car aimed at urban commuters.

Storage

The Junior Ibrida doesn’t pretend to be a people-mover. Front occupants enjoy a commanding, cocooned driving position with excellent seat support, while storage for daily essentials — a large central bin, door pockets, and a handy shelf beneath the infotainment screen — is well considered. There is no traditional glovebox; instead, a compact but useful storage compartment sits ahead of the passenger seat.

However, there is no frunk (front boot), which is expected given the front-wheel-drive, north-south powertrain layout. What you do get is a 415-litre boot — genuinely impressive for this class, beating the Lexus LBX (402L) and Audi Q2 (405L). The boot floor is flat and high, accepting three to four small suitcases side-by-side with ease. The hands-free powered tailgate with foot-sensor activation is a practical real-world feature and comes standard.

Rear seat and boot space

Despite its many strengths, this is the Junior’s most significant real-world compromise. The rear seat is best described as a 2+1 in practice — two adults sit comfortably, but three abreast is a squeeze. Headroom suits occupants up to around 180cm, though the sloping roofline clips taller passengers. Legroom is tight but liveable for short to medium trips. There is a rear USB port for charging devices, and a 60:40-split folding rear seat expands cargo capacity meaningfully when required.

Furthermore, with rear seats folded the boot grows to approximately 1250 litres — a practical, flat loading area suitable for flat-pack furniture, a weekend away, or a large dog crate. Folding the seats is straightforward and doesn’t require a PhD in engineering, which regular users will genuinely appreciate.

Technology and connectivity

The Junior’s cabin tech impresses from the moment the car wakes up. The 10.25-inch touchscreen sits at a natural eyeline angle and runs an intuitive menu system that takes no more than a few minutes to master. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connect reliably, and the wireless charging pad keeps phones topped up without fuss.

In addition, the digital cockpit pairs with a suite of connected services including live traffic satellite navigation, SOS emergency calling, and remote access via the Alfa Romeo smartphone companion app, with the first 12 months complimentary. The DNA drive mode selector — Dynamic, Natural, and Advanced Efficiency — is a genuine differentiator, adjusting throttle response, steering weight, and hybrid energy management to suit your mood or conditions.

What sets the Alfa experience apart is how cohesive it all feels — less like a tech demo, more like a car Alfa Romeo has tuned from the inside out to feel a particular way. Even the ADAS warning chimes reportedly sound softer and more melodic than the shrill alerts found in class rivals; a small but telling detail about how deeply Alfa has considered the ownership experience.

One-Touch Features

DNA Drive Modes: Dynamic sharpens throttle response and steering feel; Natural is the everyday sweet spot; Advanced Efficiency maximises the mild-hybrid system’s fuel-saving capability in city traffic.

Hands-Free Tailgate: A foot-sensor under the rear bumper opens the 415-litre boot automatically while your hands are full — standard on all Australian-spec Juniors.

Remote App Connectivity: Lock, unlock, check vehicle status, and view fuel level from your smartphone via the Alfa Romeo connected services app, with 12 months complimentary.

Engine and drivetrain

Under the bonnet, the Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida pairs a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with a 21kW electric motor integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, fed by a 0.9kWh 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack. Combined system output reaches 107kW and 230Nm to the front wheels. Several Peugeot and Citroën products share this fundamental powertrain, but the Junior deploys it with characteristic Alfa verve.

In practice, the claimed fuel consumption of 4.1L/100km on the NEDC cycle translates to mid-fives to low sixes in real-world driving — impressive for a non-plug-in hybrid. A 44-litre tank requires 95 RON premium unleaded. The 0–100km/h sprint takes a claimed 8.9 seconds, and the Junior tops out at 206km/h — honest, workmanlike figures that feel more engaging behind the wheel, thanks to the chassis tuning.

What’s the 2026 Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida like to drive?

This is where the Junior transcends its platform-shared DNA. The steering carries genuine weight and precision, communicating road texture in a way that the Jeep Avenger and Peugeot 2008 siblings simply do not. The chassis feels alert and willing, encouraging corner entry with confidence. As a result, Alfa Romeo has engineered something that punches well above its cubic capacity — a light SUV that genuinely rewards enthusiastic driving.

At highway speeds, the Junior settles into an easy, refined cruise and suppresses wind and road noise well for the class. In urban environments, the mild-hybrid system deploys its electric motor to smooth low-speed manoeuvres and take-offs, making city driving stress-free. The dual-clutch gearbox occasionally hunts for ratios in slow traffic — a known characteristic of this transmission type — but it largely behaves itself. Selecting Dynamic mode genuinely transforms the experience: throttle response sharpens, the engine holds revs longer, and the Junior becomes a surprisingly lively urban companion.

Safety features

ANCAP and Euro NCAP have not yet tested the Junior Ibrida — a notable caveat for safety-conscious buyers. Nevertheless, the car comes standard with a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite:

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection

Blind-Spot Monitoring

Lane-Keep Assist

Adaptive Cruise Control

Traffic Sign Recognition

Front, Side and Rear Parking Sensors

Reversing Camera with stitched surround-view display

Driver Attention Monitoring

Six Airbags

Owner benefits

On the ownership side, Alfa Romeo offers a solid 5-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty alongside 5 years of complimentary roadside assistance — the latter extendable by 12 months at each authorised dealer service visit throughout the vehicle’s life. That roadside coverage is a genuine differentiator against several rivals.

Alfa Romeo schedules servicing every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first — more frequent than some Japanese rivals — and service costs exceed the class average, with a five-year package totalling approximately $3,106. Buyers should factor this into the total cost of ownership calculation. Alfa Romeo does not formally offer a factory capped-price servicing programme, though its online calculator provides cost estimates in advance.

Final thoughts

Ultimately, the 2026 Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida is a car that defies expectations at every turn. On paper, a Stellantis-platform mild hybrid with a three-cylinder engine and tight rear seat should be nothing special. In reality, it is the most characterful, design-led, and genuinely engaging light SUV you can buy in Australia for under $55,000 drive-away. For more context, see our guide to the best hybrid SUVs in Australia.

Admittedly, it won’t suit every buyer. Families with three rear passengers will find it snug, servicing costs are real, and the absence of an ANCAP rating leaves a question mark for those who prioritise five-star safety credentials above all else. However, for the urban professional who wants a car that sparks joy, turns heads at the café, and makes a weekday commute feel like it means something — the Junior Ibrida is Alfa Romeo’s most important car in a decade. And it just might be the revival the brand has been waiting for.

What does the Nissan Qashqai Ti e-POWER 2025 look like?

The 2025 update has given the Qashqai a significantly bolder face. The new front grille is wider and features dozens of three-dimensional, comma-shaped elements inspired by ancient Japanese armour scales. This is flanked by sharper, more aggressive headlights.

At the rear, the changes are subtler, with updated LED taillight signatures. The new Qashqai Ti e-POWER 2025 adds a sporty edge with colour-coded body styling and unique 19-inch alloy wheels with Aero Inserts that give it a purposeful stance on the road.

What is the Nissan Qashqai e-POWER 2025 like inside?

First impressions of the high-grade e-POWER interior are of genuine quality. Nissan has stepped up its game with soft-touch materials, including Alcantara on the dashboard and doors.

The cabin is dominated by twin 12.3-inch digital screens—one for the instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system. In the premium N-Design models, they come with a large 10.8-inch head-up display projected directly onto the windscreen.

Storage

Practicality remains a strong point. The centre console features a decent-sized storage bin with a split-opening lid, along with two large cupholders. There is a dedicated wireless phone charging pad ahead of the sleek gear selector. Door bins are adequately sized for typical water bottles.

Rear seat and boot space

Rear seat accommodation is among the best in the small SUV class. The rear doors open almost 90 degrees, making access exceptionally easy for fitting child seats or loading passengers. Legroom and headroom are generous for adults. Rear passengers also benefit from air vents and USB-A and USB-C charging ports.

The boot is a practical space, though slightly smaller in the e-POWER compared to petrol versions due to hybrid components. It offers around 452 litres with the seats up, expandable to over 1370 litres.

Audio in top-spec models are handled by a premium Bose sound system, delivering clear and punchy audio.

Engine and drivetrain

This is the Qashqai’s unique selling point. The e-POWER system is not a traditional hybrid. It uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that acts solely as a generator. This engine never drives the wheels directly.

Instead, it charges a small battery, which in turn powers a 140 kW / 330 Nm electric motor on the front axle. This setup provides the instant, smooth torque response of an electric vehicle without the need to ever plug it in.

What’s the Nissan Qashqai Ti e-POWER 2025 like to drive?

Because the wheels are always turned by the electric motor, the Qashqai e-POWER drives like an EV. Acceleration is linear, quiet, and surprisingly punchy, especially around town.

It features “e-Pedal Step,” which allows for strong regenerative braking when lifting off the accelerator, though it won’t bring the car to a complete stop like some full EVs. The ride quality on standard wheels is excellent.

Nissan uses active noise cancellation to keep the cabin hushed, making it a very refined highway cruiser. Real-world fuel economy is generally good, though often slightly higher than the official 5.2L/100km claim, typically settling in the mid-to-high 5s depending on driving style.

Safety features

The Nissan Qashqai holds a 5-star ANCAP safety rating (based on 2021 testing). It comes loaded with Nissan’s ProPILOT suite of driver assists, including:

Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection

Intelligent Lane Intervention

Blind Spot Intervention

Rear Cross Traffic Alert with braking

Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Jam Assist

Owner benefits

Nissan Australia offers a standard 5-year / unlimited-kilometre warranty. The Qashqai also comes with a 5-year capped-price servicing program, with intervals set at every 12 months or 15,000km. Roadside assistance is typically included for the warranty period if serviced at authorised dealers.

Final thoughts

The 2025 Nissan Qashqai e-POWER is a compelling, if expensive, alternative in the small SUV market. It offers a genuinely premium interior and a unique driving experience that combines the best traits of an EV—smoothness and instant response—with the convenience of petrol refuelling. It’s a “best of both worlds” solution for those not quite ready to go fully electric.

Jeep Avenger Highlights

The all-new fully electric Jeep Avenger has attracted media recognition by being named European Car of the Year 2023, World’s Best Family SUV in the Women’s World Car of the Year Awards, Electric Car of the Year in TopGear.com Electric Awards 2023, Best Small Car at Autocar Awards 2023 and Small BEV Autovista Group Residual Value Award 2023.

Designed and produced as a Jeep vehicle from day one, the Avenger packs the Jeep DNA into a compact SUV with a unique combination of capability, style, functionality, and technology. Avenger has been designed to perfectly fit the needs of customers with features including:

Functional design:

Avenger has been designed to offer 360° protection and full freedom of movement. Its 360-degrees shock protection encased protected lights and colour-molded skid plates make it the ideal travel companion in urban and off-road driving.

Compact dimensions:

at 4.08 metres it is the most compact Jeep and can comfortably fit five people.

Roomy & versatile interior:

The interior of the Jeep Avenger continues the “design to function” premise and has lots of space for everyday objects. It offers 34 litres of interior storage, the equivalent of a carry-on bag. In addition, the 1 metre-wide, square-shaped trunk is also spacious and extremely versatile. Each compartment designers designed with flexibility and modularity in mind: the central tunnel can organize multiple modular storage pockets using a movable – or even removable – divider. Thanks to original solutions like the flexible cupholder divider, these boxes can store the entire content of a cabin baggage.

Sustainable powertrain:

Avenger offers zero tailpipe emissions and 100% adventure and passion with an electric range of up to 396km. Standard fast charging mode allows to recharge 30 km (average daily need) in 3 minutes, and to go from 20 to 80% in 24 minutes.

Cutting edge technology:

All-terrain and all-weather capability translates into fun and safety and Avenger leads in the Light SUV segment in both respects. A complete series of safety and ADAS features which in the electric version provide level-2 driving autonomy include: Blind Spot Monitoring, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Vulnerable Road Users (pedestrian and cyclist) protection, automatic parking and 180-degree rear camera with drone view.

Fully Connected:

Made for “always connected” customers, the new Jeep Avenger ensures a great digital on-board experience. A 10.25-inch radio screen Uconnect Infotainment combined with full digital cluster available in two variants (7 and 10.25 inches) comes as standard.

The infotainment system has been designed to deliver a smartphone-like user experience, with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone projection, “mix&match” function to build your own interface (up to 5 pages, up to 12 widgets per page), embedded navigation powered by TomTom with enhanced natural voice recognition and over-the-air update.

Thanks to the Uconnect Services and the Jeep® mobile app, customers can keep in touch with Avenger everywhere and every time.

Foremost capability

A pure expression of “concentrated Freedom”, the Avenger offers Jeep’s trademark performance in a compact form to guarantee peace of mind in all atmospheric conditions. Agile, reactive, and enjoyable to drive, it offers dynamic performance levels thanks to its instant torque and stands out for its silence.

The new Avenger is the first front-wheel drive Jeep vehicle that features standard Selec-Terrain® and Hill Descent Control, which, together with the 200mm ground clearance, the 20 degrees of approach angle, and 32 degrees of departure angle, give it unexpected off-road capability for the segment and ensure maximum protection also in city life, for example when drivers navigate up a steep parking ramp.

To improve its angles, Avenger adopts the new e-CMP2 modular electric platform, significantly customizing it with specific tunings to deliver best-in-class JEEP capability. Engineers designed the platform with no less than 60% of its components fully JEEP-dedicated. Starting from this platform, designers minimized the front and rear overhangs by creating totally new crash boxes, which are 30 mm shorter and offer the same energy-absorbing performance.

The team raised the vehicle from the ground to maximize clearance with the lowest point being the engine shield, where there are 209 mm at the suspension level and up to 223 mm at the battery plate level. It is important to note Avenger’s full and flat underbody, which protects the high voltage battery from damage while also improving aerodynamic efficiency.

But Avenger perfectly embodies Jeep “dual soul”, and it is as capable on road as it is offroad. In fact, for the best “on road capability”, thanks to its compact size and agility, it delivers a turning circle of just 10.5 metres. Which is ideal in the alleys of a historic city centre as well as on winding offroad paths.

All-new electric powertrain – Jeep Avenger

Avenger Longitude and Limited achieves energy consumption at 15.6 kWh per 100 km in the WLTP cycle*. This result stems from the extreme efficiency of the new propulsion system and the extreme lightness of the vehicle – only 1,520 kilograms.

The compactness of the vehicle and its extreme weight efficiency contribute to this. To extend the autonomy range, engineers developed each specific Avenger element to achieve maximum performance and efficiency.

They started with the light and efficient eCMP2 electric platform, modifying 600 components. The all-new electric motor improved range by 5%, the all-new battery provided another 12% benefit, and they gained 5% more by optimizing aerodynamics, gear ratio, and tyres. Additionally, the heat pump increases the range by up to 10% in extreme hot and cold conditions.

M3 power unit

The M3 power unit adopted on Avenger is a second-generation, highly efficient 400-Volt e-motor. It is the first power unit launched by eMotors. The STELLANTIS 50/50 joint venture with NIDEC. It delivers 115 kiloWatt and 260 Nm of maximum torque.

Another key element that allows high autonomy range is the battery. Avenger’s new 54 kWh battery is also produced by STELLANTIS in the Tychy plant. It offers top energy density together with an excellent ratio between nominal and usable energy – which is 51 kWh.

The battery pack consists of 17 modules and 102 cells with NMC 811 Lithium-Ion chemistry. The battery system is very compact and is located under the front and rear seats and the central tunnel. With virtually zero impact on the vehicle.

To consider that the battery is twice protected: by high ground clearance. And by specific under-body skid plates, whose resistance in case of crash exceeds the requirements of the most stringent regulations.

Onboard Charging

Another key element of Avenger’s electric propulsion is the charging system. The standard on-board charger delivers 100 kW in direct current (corresponding to 20 to 80% charge in 24 minutes in fast-charging mode. High power and torque and a specific e-powertrain calibration allow Avenger to offer uncompromised fun to drive on road and offroad on a compact platform.

The system has been developed and tested to stand extreme weather. Down to minus 30 degrees centigrade on winter roads. And up to plus 40 degrees in the height of summer. Finally, aerodynamics importantly contributes to efficiency and long range. Thanks to a frontal area of 2.25 square metres only, and a drag coefficient as low as 0.33. Avenger is one of the best cars in its category, in terms of aerodynamic response.

The Jeep Avenger supports three different charging modes and is equipped with a CCS COMBO Type 2 socket. This enables both domestic/public AC, and public DC fast charging. With the latter at a rate of 100kW in dedicated public stations. The vehicle comes standard with a Mode 3 charging cable for both public and domestic slow or semi-fast AC charging.

Charging Port positioning

The port is positioned in the left rear side of the vehicle. It gives immediate feedback on the charging status as well as possibility to manage set charging schedule or immediate charging.

The charging button has different uses and sequences depending on which charging mode is set. Including, no scheduled charge & immediate start, scheduled charging (not yet started) and scheduled charging (set and started).

Recharging the new Avenger is extremely simple. Via a 100 kW Mode 4 cable in direct current, connected to fast public charge. Three minutes of charge is enough to provide travel distance of 30 km. Or 24 minutes is sufficient to charge the batteries from 20 to 80% charge.

With a 11 kW Mode 3 cable for alternating current connected to a Wallbox or public station, it is possible to ‘fill up’ (from 0% to 100%) in 5.5 hours. Typical charging times for the Jeep Avenger are shown below.

Jeep Authentic Accessories

The new Avenger aesthetics are a symbol of the personality of the new Jeep® SUV. Which has been designed to be configurable and offer a wide range of customisations. It provides adventure and performance, but superior style as well. It is possible to customize the Avenger in several ways, in line with its claim “make it yours”.

The colour palette – where colours are corresponding to nature elements – is composed by Ruby (red), Volcano (black), Stone (sand grey), Lake (light blue) Sun, Granite, and Snow. All colours – except for the Volcano – can be combined with a black roof on certain trim levels.

More details

Since it unveiled in October 2022, the Jeep Avenger has taken the automotive world by storm, winning a variety of accolades including European Car of the Year 2023, World’s Best Family SUV in the Women’s World Car of the Year Awards, Electric Car of the Year in TopGear.com Electric Awards 2023, Best Small Car at Autocar Awards 2023, and Small BEV Autovista Group Residual Value Award 2023.

The compact Jeep Avenger spearheads the introduction of a portfolio of capable, fully electric vehicles, and serves as a key component in a global electrification strategy as the brand moves towards becoming the world leader in zero exhaust emission SUVs and produces in the highly efficient Stellantis plant in Tychy, Poland.

The Jeep Avenger is an appealing choice for those who are looking for a zero-exhaust emission alternative from the Jeep brand. Designed and built as a Jeep vehicle from day one, the Avenger packs the Jeep DNA into a compact SUV with a unique combination of capability, style, functionality, and technology to satisfy the needs of ever-connected customers.

“The Jeep Avenger represents a key milestone for the Jeep brand, our first zero exhaust emission SUV,” said Michael Filazzola, Jeep Australia Managing Director.

Jeep Avenger compact SUV

“A compact SUV, the Avenger will provide a new entry point to the Jeep range while adding another level of electrification to our offering in Australia and represents a further step in the Jeep brand’s evolution,” Filazzola continued.

Jeep Avenger has been designed to offer 360-degree protection and full freedom of movement. Its 360-degrees shock protection encased protected lights and colour-moulded skid plates make it the ideal travel companion in urban and off-road driving.

At 4.08 meters the Jeep Avenger is the most compact Jeep but offers a roomy and versatile interior comfortably fitting five people and luggage. The interior continues Jeep’s “design to function” premise offering 34 litres of interior storage, the equivalent of a carry-on bag while the 1 meter-wide, square-shaped trunk is also spacious and extremely versatile.

MG4 EV achieved a full five start ANCAP safety rating. The MG 4 Electric performed well across each aspect of ANCAP assessment under the 2020-2022 rating criteria.

The MG 4 Electric is fitted with a range of collision avoidance technologies including autonomous emergency braking, active lane support, and fatigue monitoring. Good results were seen for its performance in AEB Cyclist and some AEB Car-to-Car test scenarios, including when turning across the path of an oncoming vehicle. Mixed results were seen in AEB Pedestrian test scenarios. AEB Backover functionality, designed to detect and respond to pedestrians in reverse, is not available.

The lane support system fitted to the MG 4 Electric showed Good performance in lane keep assist test scenarios, and Adequate performance in the more critical emergency lane keeping scenarios.

Structurally, maximum points were awarded to the MG 4 Electric for its protection of adult occupants in the side impact and oblique pole tests. A mix of Good, Adequate and Marginal results were seen in the full width frontal and frontal offset (MPDB) tests, with penalties applied for excessive forward movement of the rear passenger dummy in the full width frontal test, and for potential hard contact to the driver’s knees in the MPDB test.

The MPDB test

The MPDB test – which also assesses vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility – showed that the MG 4 Electric presented a relatively low injury risk to occupants of an oncoming vehicle, with a modest penalty of 0.69 points applied.

The MG 4 Electric is however not fitted with a centre airbag or similar countermeasure to prevent contact between front seat occupants, and prevention of excursion (movement to the other side of the vehicle) was assessed as Adequate for the vehicle-to-vehicle scenario, and Poor for the vehicle-to-pole scenario.

Strong scores were seen for the protection of child occupants in the front and side impact crash tests.

“The MG 4 Electric is the first MG model to achieve five-stars under ANCAP’s 2020-2022 protocols,” said ANCAP Chief Executive, Carla Hoorweg.

The ANCAP safety rating applies to two wheel drive variants of the MG 4 Electric currently available for purchase in Australia and New Zealand.

Toyota was amongst the pioneers of hybrid technology along with Honda and a few others. They sell more hybrids than anyone else over the last 20 plus years. In 2022 hybrids accounted for nearly 73,000 Toyota sales some 31.5% of their total sales.

Toyota Australia has said it expects electrified vehicles to account for more than 50 per cent of its sales by 2025. Reflecting the brand’s commitment to lowering the carbon footprint of its vehicles.

Globally, the new-generation C-HR will only be available with Toyota’s popular self-charging hybrid technology. As well as a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant. Toyota Australia currently has no plans to introduce the PHEV variant to the Australian market.

In addition to reducing the CO2 emissions of its vehicles, Toyota Motor Corporation is also targeting carbon neutrality in all its facilities by 2030.
Toyota has also run a tree planting program for many years. Something that does more for managing the CO2 footprint than anything else.

The all new CH-R is due here mid 2024

Ford Escape PHEV – Ford Australia has finally entered the electrification battle. They have just released a Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicle (PHEV) version for their Escape medium sized SUV.

The Escape PHEV has a 2.5L four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, electric motor, and generator with a 14.4kWh lithium-ion battery, for a combined 167kW of power.

With a rated combined fuel economy figure of 1.5L/100km and 33g/km of CO2 and should deliver at least 50 kilometres in pure electric driving mode.

Ford plans to have at five electrified vehicles in Australia before the end of 2024

Drivers can choose when and how to deploy battery power using four different modes: EV Auto, EV Now, EV Later and EV Charge.
