Setting a new benchmark as BYD’s most affordable plug-in hybrid SUV in Australia. It will start from just $33,990* putting more Australians in the driver’s seat of their very own electric-platform vehicle.

Despite the sharp price point, there is no compromise on innovation or safety.

Available to order from today, the SEALION 5 is built for those who want the benefits of electric driving without anxiety about range. It offers strong performance and everyday practicality, making it just as comfortable for the daily commute as it is for longer trips.

BYD’s DM-i (Dual-Mode Intelligent) 4.0 Super Hybrid technology

Boasting BYD’s DM-i (Dual-Mode Intelligent) 4.0 Super Hybrid technology, the SEALION 5 delivers up to 100 km of pure electric range (NEDC) and a combined range approaching 1,000 km. Fuel consumption drops as low as 1.2 L/100 km in hybrid mode, making SEALION 5 one of the most efficient SUVs in its class.

Two variants will be available: ESSENTIAL and PREMIUM, both incorporating BYD’s renowned Blade Battery technology for safety and durability.

The SEALION 5 marks BYD’s continued focus to expand its electrified portfolio, another step in making advanced technology more accessible for everyday Australians.

Available in two well-equipped variants – Essential and Premium. Intended to fit seamlessly into the rhythm of Australian life. And is the perfect entry into the world of NEVs for young families. Or as a replacement vehicle for fleets actively searching for a vehicle that delivers a clear step forward in running costs and emissions. The SEALION 5 offers:

  • Significantly lower emissions compared to legacy fleet offerings, through BYD’s DM-i Super Hybrid System,

  • Sub 2.0L/100km fuel economy on a charged battery,

  • Up to 71-100km of electric-only driving NEDC, perfect for fleets in urban roles,

  • Lower cost-per-kilometre due to reduced petrol usage and lower brake/engine wear.

Under the hood, BYD’s DM-i Super Hybrid system pairs a high-efficiency 1.5L petrol engine with an electric motor. For smooth, responsive performance and outstanding efficiency. The result is a drive that feels like an EV. With the flexibility and reassurance of a hybrid.

The Essential variant offers a combined 156kW and up to 71km of electric-only range (NEDC) from a 12.9kWh battery – ideal for daily commutes – with a total combined range of up to 1,000km.

The Premium steps things up with a larger 18.3kWh battery, extending electric range to 100km and achieving combined fuel consumption as low as 1.3L/100km, while delivering a combined range of up to 1,030km.

Inside features a crisp 12.8-inch (10.1-inch in Essential) touchscreen powered by BYD’s DiLink system taking centre stage, along with an 8.8-inch digital instrument display that creates a modern, intuitive cockpit.

Wireless Apple CarPlay® (available on premium variants) and Android Auto™ keep everyone connected. While Premium models add a 360° camera for effortless manoeuvring in tight car parks. BYD’s Digital Key elevates convenience further. By allowing drivers to unlock and start the car using a smartphone or NFC card, leaving the traditional key fob at home.

With 463 litres of boot space expanding to 1,410 litres, it is ready for everything from prams to camping gear. Its 170 mm ground clearance and compact turning circle make it easy to handle tight suburban streets, while still offering the practicality to tackle gravel roads on family holidays.
