MINI is expanding the Countryman range in Australia with the new MINI Countryman Untamed Edition. Available for the MINI Countryman S ALL4 and the all-electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4, the edition pairs intelligent ALL4 all-wheel drive with exclusive exterior and interior details that give MINI’s largest and most versatile model an adventurous new character.

“Australian MINI drivers have always valued the freedom to express their individuality through their vehicle. The MINI Countryman Untamed Edition brings that spirit of customisation to life with distinctive design details and a character made for everything from the everyday commute to spontaneous weekend escapes,” said Alexander Brockhoff, General Manager of MINI Australia.

MINI Countryman Untamed – Ready for every escape.

From weekday driving to weekend escapes and longer road trips, the Untamed Edition builds on the versatility of the MINI Countryman with a distinctive design inspired by the outdoors.

Generous interior space, flexible transport solutions and the elevated seating position provide the ideal foundation for an active lifestyle.

In Australia, the Untamed Edition will be offered on the MINI Countryman S ALL4 and the all-electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4.

Exclusive details with a sense of adventure.

The Untamed Edition is distinguished by exclusive 19-inch light-alloy wheels in a bespoke design. Textured protective films applied to the wheel arches, side sills and Power Dome help protect the bodywork while emphasising the edition’s robust visual character. Newly designed underbody protection elements finished in Dark Steel and an edition-specific Untamed logo on the C-pillar complete the look.

Distinctive exterior design with a robust character.

“The Untamed Edition highlights qualities that are already part of the MINI Countryman’s DNA: robustness, versatility and a spirit of exploration. Our goal was to emphasise these characteristics through carefully selected colours, materials and details, while remaining true to the unmistakable MINI character,” says Holger Hampf, Head of MINI Design.

Edition-specific exterior design is a newly interpreted front grille featuring a vertically oriented geometry. The new angular inserts emphasise the upright front end and give the vehicle an even stronger, more confident appearance. Finished in the exclusive accent colour Dark Steel, the contoured grille surround creates a technical design statement while reinforcing the premium character of the edition.

New side sill designs, redesigned front and rear underbody protection elements and a newly sculpted rear diffuser contribute to a more powerful overall appearance. Textured matt black protective films on the wheel arches, side sills and Power Dome echo the vehicle’s design language, help protect against stone chips and reinforce its functional character.

Wheels and tyres

The new 19-inch “Untamed Edition Spoke” light-alloy wheel takes inspiration from the purposeful simplicity of classic utility wheels. Five strong spokes and technical fastening details give the vehicle a distinctive presence, while the centre cap carries the MINI wordmark in Dark Steel.

Exterior colours developed specifically for the Untamed Edition draw inspiration from natural, earthy and mineral tones. Alongside the exclusive finishes Hideaway Grey, Nomad Blue and Frozen Nomad Blue. Customers can also choose Nanuq White and Midnight Black. Frozen Nomad Blue marks the first matt exterior paint finish to be introduced into MINI series production. Its matt surface changes the perception of the vehicle’s proportions. Highlighting surfaces and contours more prominently while creating a particularly sculptural and premium appearance. Roof finishes are available in either Glazed White or Jet Black.

All accent details consistently follow the outdoor-inspired design concept.

MINI emblems at the front and rear,

the Countryman lettering,

grille surround,

underbody protection elements and

additional design accents are finished in Dark Steel,

creating a technical yet robust appearance through their metallic finish.

The edition-specific Untamed logo featuring a stylised mountain motif complements these elements on the C-pillar.

Functional interior inspired by the outdoors.

Colours, materials and finishes throughout the cabin take inspiration from modern outdoor equipment, natural textures and highly functional products.

At the centre of the interior are the exclusive Vescin Nightshade Blue sports seats. They combine premium perforated Vescin upholstery with knitted surfaces in the shoulder and headrest areas. The designers inspired the structured knit pattern by rock formations and complemented it with piping and decorative stitching in Cornflower Blue. The design features an integrated Untamed logo showcasing a mountain panorama.

Knitted surfaces on the dashboard and door panels continue to define the interior design. The specially developed Millennial Melange colour tone combines dark grey shades with a rich blue base. This two-tone knitted structure has become a distinctive feature of the new MINI family and contributes to a refined, premium ambience.

The designers changed all interior accents from Vibrant Silver to Dark Steel. You can find additional Cornflower Blue accents on the steering wheel strap, steering wheel spoke, and selected interior elements.

The redesigned centre console storage box features a more robust geometry. With its elastic retaining straps, consciously references premium outdoor equipment such as backpacks and climbing gear.

Rubber floor mats and a matching luggage compartment mat further enhance the edition’s everyday practicality. Their three-dimensional pattern takes inspiration from natural rock formations. Combining functionality with a distinctive design language.

BMW iX4 details

The new BMW iX4 is planned to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2027 with two variants, each featuring a dual electric motor all-wheel-drive system. The BMW iX4 40 xDrive will be priced from $103, 900, while the BMW iX4 50 xDrive will be available from $119,900.

The range-topping BMW iX4 M60 xDrive will join the line-up later in 2027, adding M-specific all-wheel-drive technology, chassis enhancements, distinctive design elements and digital features.

Neue Klasse design with SUV Coupé proportions

The BMW iX4 is the third model in the Neue Klasse family and introduces the brand’s next-generation design language to the electric SUV coupé segment.

Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and flowing roofline create an elegant silhouette, while a pronounced rear spoiler, sculpted surfaces and slim horizontal light units emphasise width and sporting presence. A drag coefficient of 0.23 contributes to aerodynamic efficiency and long-distance capability.

At the front, the BMW kidney grille and twin headlights merge into a single graphic element, creating a distinctive interplay of light and geometry that defines the Neue Klasse design language.

The standard M Sport package enhances the vehicle’s dynamic appearance with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, M Sport brakes with blue callipers and model-specific exterior and interior appointments.

A full-length panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing is fitted as standard across the range. The dedicated electric vehicle architecture also maximises interior space, offering generous comfort for rear passengers, a luggage compartment of 490 litres that expands to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded, and an additional 58 litres of storage beneath the bonnet.

Sixth-generation BMW eDrive: more range, faster charging

The BMW iX4 introduces the full benefits of sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology. Its 800-volt electrical architecture, newly developed cylindrical battery cells and highly efficient electric motors deliver a step forward in performance, efficiency, range and charging speed.

The BMW iX4 50 xDrive supports ultra-fast DC charging at up to 400 kW, enabling up to 387 kilometres of WLTP driving range to be added in just 10 minutes under ideal conditions.

Charging from 10 to 80 per cent can be completed in as little as 21 minutes at a suitable high-power charging station.

The BMW iX4 40 xDrive supports DC charging at up to 300 kW, while AC charging of up to 22 kW is available across the range.

BMW Panoramic iDrive featuring BMW Operating System X

The cabin introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive with BMW Operating System X, representing a new generation of driver-focused interaction. The system brings together BMW Panoramic Vision, an optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display, a 17.9-inch Central Display and a new multifunction sports steering wheel with illuminated shy-tech controls.

BMW Panoramic Vision projects relevant information across the lower section of the windscreen, positioning key driving content in the driver’s natural field of view. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, while the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant supports natural-language interaction and proactive suggestions.

Heart of Joy: a new dimension in Sheer Driving Pleasure

At the centre of the BMW iX4 driving experience is the Heart of Joy high-performance computer, one of four specialised “superbrains” in the Neue Klasse electronics architecture. It integrates control of the drive system, braking, recuperation and steering-related functions and operates up to ten times faster than previous systems.

The result is more precise and composed handling, smoother transitions between acceleration and deceleration, and highly effective energy recuperation. In everyday driving, up to 98 per cent of braking can be achieved through recuperation without use of the friction brakes.

The flat high-voltage battery contributes to a low centre of gravity, while near-perfect weight distribution, a long wheelbase and model-specific chassis tuning support agility, stability and comfort.

Sustainability considered across the life cycle

The BMW Group has applied a holistic approach to sustainability across the development, supply chain, production, use phase and recycling of the BMW iX4. Based on preliminary forecasts, approximately 30 per cent of the vehicle is manufactured using secondary materials.

The BMW iX4 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, which operates using electricity sourced exclusively from renewable energy during normal production and without the use of fossil fuels.

Jaguar has unveiled Type 01, the most technologically advanced and powerful Jaguar in the brand’s history. A luxury four-door GT that never arrives unnoticed.

Jaguar Type 01 background

Type 01 inaugurates a new era for Jaguar.

The team designed, engineered, and crafted Type 01 in the UK; it is the first production Jaguar that they created on Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a dedicated platform enabling an entirely new approach to design, proportions, and occupant experience.

A luxury four-door GT, Type 01 embodies Jaguar’s renewed vision of modern luxury, combining dramatic design, craftsmanship and innovation to create an unmistakable presence and emotional connection.

Type 01 is the first of a new generation of Jaguars. Its name references both Jaguar’s legendary lineage and its all-electric future: “Type” nods to iconic predecessors, “0” signifies zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks the first of a new generation.

Type 01, the most technologically advanced and powerful Jaguar in the brand’s history

Jaguar has unveiled Type 01, the most technologically advanced and powerful Jaguar in the brand’s history. A luxury four-door GT that never arrives unnoticed.

Type 01 inspired a celebration of contemporary culture across New York. This was a one-of-a-kind premiere, from large-scale digital displays in Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side, to its dynamic arrival for an exclusive gathering at STORIED in West Chelsea, zip code 10001.

Exhuberant Proportions

Type 01 is defined by exuberant proportions, with its low roofline, long bonnet, sleek silhouette and dramatic presence. Starting from a single line and a blank sheet of paper, it is the most aerodynamic and powerful Jaguar road car. A bold, one-of-a-kind that breaks convention, with a clear lineage to the great Jaguars of the past including the E-type and XJS.

Beneath Type 01’s clean surfaces is a bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture which offers more than 1,000PS, always with power in reserve, for a drive that is unmistakably Jaguar. Powered by an 850-volt electrical architecture, it delivers a 643-kilometre range (EPA) and adds 321 kilometres in 13 minutes using 350kW charging. Type 01 represents a new standard of power, aerodynamics and technological advancement for Jaguar.

Jaguar Type 01 world premiere

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said: “From its dramatic design to its captivating drive, Type 01 distils the essence of Jaguar into a luxury grand tourer for a new era. Type 01 is the foundation of this British brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to create objects of desire, just as it was in the days of the E-type and XJS.”

At the world premiere of Type 01 at STORIED in New York, Jaguar announced acclaimed actor Florence Pugh as the inaugural brand ambassador for its new era. Embodying the originality, fearlessness and creative spirit that define Jaguar.

Pugh joined guests and friends of the brand to celebrate the global arrival of Type 01 with a night dedicated to bold creativity and artistic expression. British singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro, Best New Artist at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, performed an intimate set. Celebrated chef Roze Traoré conceived an exclusive culinary programme inspired by Jaguar’s fearless creative vision.

New York provided the brand with an international stage from which to celebrate originality and British innovation – a city where art, fashion, film, music and design create one of the world’s most influential centres of reinvention.

New York Premiere

At STORIED NYC, guests encountered a series of product artefacts exploring the artistry that brought the Type 01 vision to life:

Creative engineering: The single line penned by Jaguar designers in the beginning, hung from the ceiling in aluminium form as a symbol of a design vision made possible by creative engineering

Relentless dedication: The Impossible Panel embodies the unwavering commitment to bring the exuberant, dramatic body shape to production

Dual character: Tyre marks from a section of test track illustrate the hundreds of thousands of kilometres of testing that shaped Type 01’s dual character – composed and dynamic

This was the biggest moment since the Jaguar name was born in 1935. A fitting tribute and a powerful expression of Jaguar’s dramatic new era. A new chapter for the brand begins with Type 01. Jaguar is back.

Exuberant proportions, scale and presence

Jaguar Type 01 is the first production car to follow the new exuberant modernist creative philosophy. A luxury four-door GT that never arrives unnoticed.

Dramatic proportions set Type 01 apart. Modern and sophisticated with clean surfacing, its presence is unmistakable from every angle. Distinctive proportions made possible by the new bespoke body architecture and design-enabling innovations.

The dynamic stance defines Type 01’s sleek, uninterrupted silhouette, which measures 5,235mm long by 1,403mm tall. The low profile adds drama while a short front overhang, long bonnet and extended rear overhang exude a powerful presence. The large flat bonnet which adds to the monolithic presence of Type 01 is an engineering marvel, formed from a single body pressing bonded to an innovative subframe to ensure no compromise on refinement or design.

Bold 23-inch wheels as standard (with 21-inch options available) are more than half of Type 01’s height and balance the dramatic glasshouse-to-body proportions, making the GT look like it’s in motion even when standing still. The new Jaguar monogram appears at the centre of the wheels, with patent-pending lightweight wheel inserts that are optimised for airflow. The continuous aluminium finisher that runs around the base of Type 01 grounds the car, enhancing the precision detailing.

Large Luxury Gap

The large luxury gap – the distance from the centre of the front axle to the front door – is a signature of Jaguars past and is unusual among EVs. For Type 01, it measures 898mm and makes up 17 per cent of the car’s total length – almost the same as for the E-type. The Fender Ingot, the signature side finisher, accentuates the luxury gap and grounded stance. It is the singular place on the exterior of Type 01 for the leaper – Jaguar’s hallmark of provenance. It is laser-etched on an anodised brass-effect finisher for the exclusive ‘Curated by Jaguar’ Design Vision interpretation.

Type 01 is the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever made

Type 01 is the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever made, with a drag coefficient of 0.23Cd. Its crafted exterior surfaces are clean and modern, providing presence and drama. Designers and engineers worked together for more than 7,000 tests in the wind tunnel to optimise aerodynamic efficiency, with hidden technology and precision refinements. All while preserving the original design vision.

Type 01 pushes the boundaries of automotive manufacturing to deliver this vision. The groundbreaking aluminium bodyside features a rear quarter panel that undergoes a complex six-stage pressing process to achieve its crisp and sophisticated shape, designed to evoke the flick of a pen.

Named the Impossible Panel, it also houses an industry-first concept with frameless doors closing directly against the body. The compressed-radius hemming technique allows glass seals to be hidden, with no need for additional cosmetic trims. Complexity made simple. An approach mirrored by the clean and defined waistline, where door glass meets metal.

Andrew Wheel, Design Development Director, JLR, said: “Jaguar Type 01 is the first production car to showcase our new creative philosophy of exuberant modernism. It’s unmistakable from every angle, exquisitely crafted inside and out with dramatic proportions, innovative details and sophisticated surfaces delivering visual impact and aerodynamic performance. With Type 01, we wanted to create something where every journey is an occasion, from how it looks to how it drives and how it makes occupants feel. Type 01 will never arrive unnoticed.”

A new face of Jaguar

As the first of a new era, Type 01 showcases the confident new face of Jaguar. A reductive and sophisticated look defined by the strikethrough graphic, with the new device mark taking centre stage. The distinctive new four-light signature gives Type 01 a confident, grounded identity. The main, powerful HD LED projection headlights, which feature automatic levelling, precise beam control and welcome projection, are the slimmest ever Jaguar headlights. Measuring just 84mm high, they each have 17,000 pixels.

Type 01 preserves the purity of its design through embedded technology. At the front, Active Vanes provide a clean A-surface when closed but open when the propulsion system and brakes need cooling, while also optimising aerodynamics. On either side, flush door handles respect the clean surfaces, capable of deploying through 4mm of sheet ice. At the back, a multi-stage deployable spoiler is visible only when the situation demands it.

Holistic design language

The holistic design of Type 01 is most apparent where the Bonnet Strikethrough at the base of the windscreen breaks the boundaries between exterior and interior, visually merging the bonnet and dashboard. Understated confidence lies in the details, with a discreet model designation graphic visible here.

The rear makes a bold statement. A solid, glassless tailgate and powerful shoulders create a sense of sculpted solidity, giving Type 01 a monolithic quality. Hidden-until-lit, full-width rear lights are embedded in horizontal strikethroughs, a key visual graphic for the Jaguar brand and the result of 4,000 hours of engineering development. The central brake light is purposefully located to achieve continuity with the powerful shoulder that wraps around Type 01, as well as integrating the new device mark above the third brake light.

Alexey Andreev, Exterior Design Lead, JLR, said: ‘’The front of Type 01 is all about presence. Defined by the four-light signature, the new face of Jaguar is instantly recognisable even when approaching from a distance. Thanks to the new JEA architecture, we are able to place visual emphasis on the width of the car with the lamps, which are positioned high and to outermost corners. At the rear, clean uninterrupted surfaces highlight the sculpted shoulders and create a solid, monolithic stance which accentuates the unmistakable horizontal strikethrough, making Type 01’s departure as memorable as its arrival.’’

Rich, theatrical and deeply evocative, London Red connects Jaguar’s storied past with its bold vision for the future, marking 90 years of creativity with a colour that commands attention.

Dramatic, sophisticated and crafted interior

Type 01 gives every journey a sense of occasion. Its low GT seating position signals what’s to come on the road, shrinking around the driver to create a cosseting and confidence-inspiring experience.

A dramatic central spine runs the full length of the cabin, creating four individual spaces for each occupant, while opening to reveal exuberant brass-coloured stowage and cupholders. Type 01 pays attention to the finest details, the brass‑inspired finish on the central spine is repeated along the tops of the doors. Running the entire length of the cabin, these signature art pieces bear the Jaguar leaper.

Driver and passenger seats are 12-way electrically adjustable, heated and cooled, with hot stone massage effect. Split folding (50:50) rear seats are heated and cooled. Driver and passengers enjoy complete control over cabin light, day and night, beneath a panoramic glass roof with adjustable virtual blind, fitted as standard.

Driver Ergonomics

Ahead of the driver sits a distinct duotone steering wheel with brass-inspired finisher and 24-inch OLED screen that extends towards the centre of the car, combining instrumentation and intuitive control of the clean and sophisticated new Jaguar infotainment. An additional secondary smartphone-style seven-inch display sits between the driver and front passenger, placing the most common key controls, such as climate and audio operations, within instinctive easy reach. A matching seven-inch portrait display is integrated within the central spine and sits in the rear centre console for those in the back to control comfort settings.

Strikethrough details on the dashboard seamlessly merge the interior with the exterior, creating one coherently crafted form. Drama is in every detail with hidden-until-needed technologies preserving the clean lines, just as they do for the exterior. Concealed cupholders and deployable air vents, pull-out storage compartments, customisable pinstripe ambient lighting and stowage that opens to reveal moments of exuberant colour.

Full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar

An automotive-first, full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar across the base of the windscreen creates the ultimate soundstage, tuned exclusively for Type 01. Sound envelops the longitudinal interior with invisible speakers throughout the cabin combining with the Panoramic Soundbar and front seat headrest speakers to deliver immersive listening. The captivating system removes the need for row one door speakers, enabling unbroken interior surfaces, adding to the reductive design and further refining the cabin.

The designers embedded the digital ClearSight Rear View Display centrally within the Panoramic Soundbar at the base of the windscreen in place of a traditional rear-view mirror. They positioned the feed from its rear-facing camera at the same height as the door mirrors, reducing the focal adjustment that the driver has to make and improving forward visibility. Original thinkers instinctively execute.

Powered Tailgate

The powered tailgate rises to reveal over 450 litres of loadspace, expanding to 1,000 litres with rear seats folded. The split-level luggage space features front-to-rear strikethrough detailing and the hidden underfloor stowage provides additional space. Larger items can be accommodated by tilting the rear seatbacks forwards while the seats themselves are distinctive by design, with fewer seams and stitch lines for a clean, contemporary look. Essential emergency kit can be housed in the service stowage under the bonnet. There when you need. Hidden when you don’t.

Andy Hart-Barron, Interior Design Director, JLR, said: “Our holistic design philosophy translates the vehicle’s exterior presence into a distinctive interior architecture. Type 01 emphasises its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine – an architectural statement that creates four individual spaces. The arrangement of clean surfaces, materials and hidden-until-needed technology fuse with the low seating position to provide a cosseting and confidence-inspiring experience on both calm and spirited driving occasions.’’

Curated and contemporary colourways

The interior palette draws inspiration from travertine stone, capturing its layered tones and the play of light and shadow.

Furniture-inspired seating with minimal seams and ingot detailing create a contemporary look. Innovative Woolblend Kvadrat DuoWeave textile wraps around, encasing the leather or UltrafabricsTM NeoGrain – a lightweight material inspired by architectural interiors – and adding to the crafted feel of the cabin. The luxurious textile flooring, which includes recycled materials, wraps into the lower doors and pillar trims to create a welcoming ambience.

Three tailored interior colourways represent distinct interpretations of Jaguar.

The Light Story – Dusk Grey available in UltrafabricsTM NeoGrain or luxurious leather.

A drive like no other

Type 01 is two distinct characters in one car, the very essence of Jaguar. Deep reserves of power and refined comfort.

Effortless power delivery from the most aerodynamically efficient, refined and powerful Jaguar ever. Type 01 shrinks around the driver, ready to carve through corners or cross continents with confidence-inspiring control and composure. Capable of accelerating from 100-180km/h in 4.0 seconds. It drives like no other EV, distilling the defining characteristics of the finest Jaguars of the past for a new generation. The software, hardware and propulsion of Type 01 are the result of more than 200,000 hours of testing and finessing.

The car’s visceral responses are built on new foundations. The new JEA body architecture, with a torsional rigidity of 51.7kN/degree, makes this Jaguar’s stiffest integrated body and battery structure ever. It provides the perfect platform for the double wishbone front and integral link rear suspension, which optimises handling, comfort and cabin refinement for a captivating drive.

Type 01 breathes with the road, just like previous Jaguars, but with a level of precision and control only possible today. The chassis features Dynamic Air Suspension with switchable volume air springs and twin-valve active dampers, adapting ride height at higher speeds to improve efficiency. The system monitors the road 500 times a second and adjusts the dampers 1,000 times a second to continuously deliver ultimate comfort and handling performance, with the suspension able to travel through the body structure to increase wheel travel without compromising the low bonnet line.

Type 01 create a low centre of gravity

The geometric fundamentals of Type 01 create a low centre of gravity – 60mm below the hip point of the driver – allowing for a more compliant suspension to deliver the two dynamic characters of Type 01. The front seats are placed low in the chassis, while the yaw centre of the car sits between the front occupants, creating the sense of the car shrinking around the driver for on-road engagement. Combined with the All-Wheel Steer system moving in-phase at high speeds, the yaw centre shifts rearwards as speed increases, providing stability and a confidence-inspiring driving experience. At lower speeds, out-of-phase rear steering of up to six degrees enhances low-speed agility and manoeuvrability. A 50:50 weight distribution ensures Type 01 maintains its composure when cornering, moving as a single entity in harmony with the road whatever the speed.

PirelliTM specially developed a bespoke tyre design that enables Type 01’s signature blend of performance and refinement. In all-season compound, the exclusive Pirelli P Zero tyres optimally fit the car’s driving character, with a large contact patch that generates impressive grip of up to 0.94g of lateral acceleration.

Perfectly weighted controls react instinctively to every input. Sure-footed rear-biased all-wheel drive traction – with tri-motor technology and Intelligent Torque Vectoring – puts power where it’s needed most. A 260kW front motor and twin 310kW rear motors combine to deliver world-class torque density of 51Nm/kg.

Electric motors

The twin rear motors are controlled by the rear EDU, itself a technological marvel. It combines two permanent magnet motors within a single compact casing to create a unique Jaguar solution that delivers Type 01’s epic performance while maximising luggage space. Exceptional thermal management, such as immersion-cooled end windings, ensures peak performance with no compromise on efficiency.

Type 01’s electric motors utilise industry-leading permanent magnet technology, achieving up to 95 per cent peak efficiency. Engineers carefully defined their front and rear gear ratios, 8.76:1 and 7.72:1 respectively, from the earliest stages of the vehicle architecture to give exceptional high-speed efficiency and refined long-distance cruising.

Fast-switching silicon carbide-powered inverters control the motors, which the team developed from learnings on-track through the double world championship-winning Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team. These inverters convert direct current from the high voltage battery into alternating current to power the electric motors. The system continuously adapts its switching frequency between 2kHz and 20kHz, ensuring operation within its most efficient window at all times.

Type 01 instinctive responses for superior traction,

This gives Type 01 instinctive responses for superior traction, precision and control, for example when accelerating on low grip surfaces. Integrated Traction Management reduces the torque reaction time at each wheel from 100 milliseconds to as little as one millisecond utilising learnings from Jaguar TCS Racing’s high-fidelity all-wheel-drive control software.

Type 01 introduces Jaguar’s patent-pending Inverter Deactivation Technology. By continuously assessing driving conditions, the system can switch to single-axle operation by deactivating the rear motors when performance is not required, for example when cruising on the highway. The transition is imperceptible to the driver yet contributes up to 18 additional miles of range.

All Type 01’s systems are fully integrated using Bosch’s VDC 2.0 software. A predictive, next-generation stability system developed in collaboration with Jaguar engineers to enable more refined control and interventions, anticipating instability before it occurs.

Matt Becker, Vehicle Engineering Director, JLR, said: “At its best, Jaguar has always delivered two characters – performance and refinement. Type 01 marks a step-change in our technical ambitions, with innovative in-house electric propulsion technologies that combine with the car’s unique proportions, low centre of gravity and 50:50 weight distribution. Together, these create a car with refinement, performance and engagement working in perfect harmony, always with power in reserve, to deliver an experience that is truly Jaguar.’’

Power in reserve

Type 01 delivers epic and effortless performance, always with the sense of having power in reserve. Up to 757kW (1,030PS) and 1,365Nm of torque, made available to the driver across the entire speed range. Inherent to Jaguar DNA, the engineers demonstrate power in reserve at a steady cruising speed of 100km/h, where Type 01 uses just two per cent of its available power. The driver can access the rest to deliver continuous acceleration as soon as needed. The engineers further highlight the reality of power in reserve by showcasing Type 01’s rate of rolling acceleration, going from 100km/h to 180km/h in 4.0 seconds.

Jaguar Type 01 is 5,235mm long, yet has the wall-to-wall turning circle (11.5m) and low-speed manoeuvrability of a compact family car. All-Wheel Steer is the enabler, turning the rear axle up to six degrees, out-of-phase or in-phase with the front wheels, for effortless urban driving and instinctive responses and secure handling at higher speeds.

A confidence-inspiring brake pedal works in harmony with the rest of the car, with a choice of three brake regeneration settings. High, Medium and Low modes vary the level of brake inputs required, while Single Pedal mode expertly blends regenerative braking with torque control for comfortable and controlled cruising.

Grand Tourer with personality

Finely tuned calibration of the control systems finesses a uniquely characterful grand tourer. An engaging car of the digital age with an unmistakably analogue feel. Every journey can be tailored via the Jaguar Drive Control with a choice of four tuned drive modes – Jaguar, Dynamic, Efficient and Ice & Snow – with the ability to personalise the driving experience to suit driver preferences using the fifth Curated mode.

Jaguar mode reflects the core DNA of comfort and composure. For an even more controlled and instinctive drive, Dynamic mode puts up to 87 per cent of the power to the rear axle, even more of the time, stiffens the active air springs and sharpens steering and throttle inputs. All Surface Progress Control, a low-speed cruise control style feature, automatically adjusts to existing drive modes and helps the driver gain and maintain speed in slippery conditions.

Jon Darlington, Architecture Chief Engineer, Jaguar, said: “This is a capable luxury grand tourer, agile at low speeds and stable at higher speeds. A car that rotates around your hips, with confidence-inspiring steering and carefully tuned suspension which provide a wide dynamic bandwidth as you progress through the different driving modes. Type 01’s duality of character is testament to the hundreds of thousands of hours of development work by our engineering and vehicle dynamic teams on virtual simulators and proving grounds around the world.”

Electric freedom

Jaguar Type 01’s 118kWh lithium-ion battery provides an expected EPA range of up to 643 kilometres (up to 720km of WLTP range[6]). Side terminal prismatic cell technology, with unique Jaguar NMC chemistry, feature integrated longitudinal busbars to eliminate cables. All engineered to maximise energy density. For the client, this means the ability to cruise for up to 515 kilometres at highway speeds on a single charge – enough to complete more than 99.7 per cent of journeys without interruption[7].

Battery testing went far beyond the conventional standards for a luxury grand tourer. For example, Type 01 passed the immersion test where a hot battery pack is immersed 20 times in ice cold water at a one metre depth, testing how cells react to sudden temperature change. Advanced battery management software continually monitors the health of each cell, with the ability to isolate a single cell in the event of any safety issues in as little as five milliseconds. Batteries are warrantied for eight years or 100,000 miles for complete peace of mind.

Engineers have tested Type 01 around the globe.

Engineers have tested Type 01 around the globe. Jaguar’s patented thermal supervisor, ThermAssistTM, optimises energy to suit the conditions. It maximises range and minimises charging times, without any input from the driver. A new Hypervisor controller powers it and operates between extremes of -40 and +40 degrees.

ThermAssistTM continually tracks the heat management system and automatically moves thermal energy where it needs to go, between the battery, EDUs, and cabin in the most efficient way possible. For example, the electric motors generate excess heat that the system can utilize. capture to warm the cabin or battery.

The system can produce up to 3.5kW of heating power from every 1kW of energy recovered. Alternatively, it can keep the cabin cool in hot weather or harvest energy from ambient air on freezing cold mornings to help warm the battery.

ThermAssistTM also improves battery longevity and charging capability by transferring heat to keep cells at their optimum operating temperature. Active oil control valves allow precision control and efficiency of the heat management system.

Propulsion pre-conditioning prepares the battery ahead of charging, so it’s at the optimum temperature to be topped up in the most efficient way. Begin long trips confident of a full charge thanks to Storage Band Conditioning, which ensures 100 per cent charge status when you return to the vehicle, in extreme high or low ambient temperatures8.

Charging made simple

Type 01 operates on an 850-volt architecture making the charging experience effortless. With 350kW DC charging[8], add up to 321km of range in as little as 13 minutes and charge from 10-80 per cent in around 22 minutes. Intelligent split-charging capability allows Type 01 to make the most of whichever charger it’s plugged into with 250kW charging capability possible at 400 volts. An integrated on-board charger allows AC charging at up to 22kW.

Type 01 makes charging simple every step of the way, wherever the journey starts and ends. Standard dual AC charge ports on either side of Type 01, hidden behind powered charging doors, make plugging in easy wherever it’s parked around the world.

Engineered around the vision

Delivering the unique proportions, uninterrupted silhouette and technological specification of Type 01 required a new approach. More than 360 patents were filed to achieve Type 01. Creative engineering solutions to challenges never experienced in the automotive industry. Engineers learned from Jaguar TCS Racing to embed a competition development mindset to develop the innovative JEA body architecture[9]. Exclusive, pioneering and bespoke to Jaguar. It is the enabler for the distinctive dimensions that give Type 01 its unmistakable presence and captivating drive.

Solid foundations ensure the chassis can do its job. Type 01 has the strongest underpinnings of any Jaguar ever made, with 73 per cent aluminium and torsional rigidity of 51.7kN/deg. Ingenious thinking is evident in the way JEA integrates its 118kWh battery alongside a vertically stacked electric motor and gearbox. The battery pack connects with the chassis directly to increase rigidity, delivering enhancements to handling, ride comfort and cabin refinement.

Distinctive frameless doors with flush glazing close neatly against an innovative new cant rail design. A compressed-radius hemming technique results in a crisp visual transition from glass to body, without trims or visible seals. Another patented technology. A seamless waistline creates the same clean appearance where glass meets door. Both evidence of a commitment to achieving the crafted surfaces of the original vision.

Thomas Müller, Chief Technology Officer, JLR, said: “The beautiful design, creative engineering and technological capability of Jaguar Type 01 is an interconnected story. Design-enabling engineering innovations all working in perfect harmony. An unflinching commitment to our design philosophy and jaw-dropping proportions led us to our bespoke architecture, which in turn unlocks the distinctive driving character and performance that enables Type 01 to drive like no other electric car, while still being a true Jaguar.’’

Structural innovation

Underfloor batteries traditionally raise the roofline but not for Type 01. The unique body architecture allows the battery pack to extend ahead of the passenger compartment to maximise range with zero compromise on vehicle height. Specially designed Tri-Apex Node structural elements help to distribute energy in the event of a frontal impact, capable of absorbing and stopping 26 tonnes in an impact. In side impacts, the pack itself absorbs 70 per cent of all crash energy. The extra 32 cells accommodated by this innovation add up to 112 kilometres of range and 110kW.

Engineers positioned a patented structural high-voltage junction box, which houses the advanced Battery Energy Management system, between the front wheels 350mm ahead of the bulkhead, and it doubles as a strut brace for the front suspension. Designers achieve packaging efficiency while ensuring structural integrity.

They carefully position key components to optimise cabin space. The design team splits the underfloor battery to create extra vertical legroom and improve comfort for rear passengers, while maintaining the dramatic low roofline. Engineers place connectors for the 200 battery cells on the sides of the individual cells, rather than on top, to save precious millimetres of battery height. As a result, the design achieves 80 per cent of the pack height as energy – exceeding industry norms.

The Impossible Panel

Type 01 pushes new boundaries for the industry in the pressing of the aluminium body panels, to deliver the vision of Jaguar designers. The bodyside features a rear quarter panel that underwent a painstaking development using traditional skills and expertise to achieve its crisp and sophisticated surfacing.

Engineers invested more than 1,500 hours in perfecting the pressing of the panel, to deliver five different planes as three feature lines converge in a single point. Established industry wisdom dictates no more than three planes with sweeping curves and no acute angles on a single body panel, but Type 01 shatters these constraints.

Jaguar deployed age-old techniques and body pressing expertise to create The Impossible Panel. Pressed in Halewood, it requires a six-stage process and 2,500 tons of pressure from a machine four storeys high. In this way, Type 01 sets a new standard for the cold forming of aluminium in car production, with no impact on manufacturing time.

Optimising efficiency

Battery capacity and energy efficiency determine driving range. Jaguar has maximised both for Type 01.

Close collaboration between design and engineering across thousands of wind tunnel simulations resulted in complete airflow optimisation. In one example, honing millimetres from the front corner of the car. And redirecting air along the side and rear of Type 01 added 19 kilometres of range.

The dramatic proportions of Type 01, including the sculpted underfloor, unconventional contours of The Impossible Panel and vertical rear. Help manage airflow down the sides and off the rear. This creates a high-pressure zone which generates 4kg of positive aerodynamic thrust. To propel the car forwards, rather than the more conventional low pressure, which creates drag and pulls the car backwards.

An intelligent, patent-pending deployable rear spoiler optimises airflow further. Type 01 lowers by 15mm when cruising and the spoiler is active. The three-stage design is hidden at low speeds but deploys by seven degrees above 80km/h. To reduce drag on the highway and extend range by up to three miles. At speeds higher than 155km/h, the spoiler transitions to 21-degree aero-balance mode and generates up to 75kg of downforce for improved stability. While maintaining the same aerodynamic efficiency as when it’s hidden.

Hidden-until-needed Active Vanes at the front of Type 01 preserve the dramatic exterior design. While dynamically pivoting between fully closed and open to balance brake and powertrain cooling and efficiency to suit the driving environment. Through extensive testing, Active Vanes add up to 43 kilometres of range. The central vanes also allow airflow to ensure optimal charging speeds are maintained in extreme temperatures.

Fast. Powerful. Updatable.

Type 01 uses Jaguar’s latest Electrical Vehicle Architecture and embraces the principles of software-defined vehicles. Type 01 will get better with age thanks to Software Over The Air (SOTA) technology[10]. That makes this future-ready four-door GT easier and faster to update and improve than any previous Jaguar. Processing performance is optimised by an NVIDIATM-powered central cockpit controller. That is 10 times faster than previous generations. Enabling quicker responses for clients and more on-board technology systems. Software on Type 01 has completed 150,000 different tests over tens of thousands of hours.

Jaguar’s suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) utilises 10 external cameras. Five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors working together to enhance safety, comfort and convenience. Powered by an NVIDIATM system that handles trillions of operations per second. Type 01 seamlessly blends assistance systems into the driving experience, so they feel natural and unobtrusive. For example, a 3D Surround Camera integrates with the digital ClearSight Rear View Display. To provide a 360-view for navigating narrow streets. The forward-facing radar is integrated behind the raised foil finish of the Jaguar device mark. For optimum year-round ADAS performance a heated element behind the badge maintains the perfect operating temperature on cold days.

Intuitive and instinctive

Type 01 prioritises technology that makes life easier without ever dominating the interior architecture. Intelligently applied and discretely integrated. Developed around people not hardware. Jaguar human factors experts studied how drivers interact with the vehicle. For example where they place their hands on the wheel and where their eyes naturally look. All with the aim of creating a user experience that is safer and more convenient.

A new 24-inch driver display places absolute control exactly where it’s needed. It provides exceptional clarity and optimised brightness and is home to the intuitive all-new Jaguar Infotainment. Favourite features and common tasks are carried out from the driver’s screen. With the majority of functions available in just two taps. For added convenience, a secondary smartphone-style seven-inch screen is within easy reach. Between the driver and front passenger, for frequently performed tasks. Such as adjusting the four-zone climate control or media volume. A matching portrait screen sits in the centre console in the rear.

The user interface is complemented by a new, powerful, more natural Voice Assistant[11]. Designed to understand conversational, multi-step instructions. So drivers can keep their hands on the wheel and their focus on the road.

Chat to Type 01 and simply ask

Chat to Type 01 and simply ask it to start or stop a charging session. Or open and close the powered charging port or optimise the navigation for charging locations. Connected Speech also enables general conversation about topics of interest. The weather forecast or upcoming journey details, supported in 18 languages.

The ClearSight Rear View Display is positioned at the same height as the door mirrors . To help reduce the focal adjustment demanded from the driver. A new concept houses the display within the Panoramic Soundbar, providing a clear view forward and back. The system, which works in harmony with the 3D Surround Camera. Provides a significantly wider, unobstructed field of vision with enhanced low-light visibility compared to a traditional mirror. Advanced camera technology in the roof-mounted antennae pod. With a hydrophobic lens ensures a clear image while software optimisation maintains high-definition quality.

Enveloped in sound

The Jaguar Immersive Sound System – powered by MeridianTM – is integral to the Type 01 experience. A bespoke design, crafted to deepen the cabin’s atmosphere and emotion. Shaping how people feel inside the vehicle through the power of sound.

At its heart is the Panoramic Soundbar. A fully integrated 13-speaker arrangement curving across the dashboard at the base of the windscreen. This one-of-a-kind system features eight proprietary Meridian technologies to create the ultimate soundstage. Tuned exclusively for Type 01. Concealed within the meticulously designed interior. A further 25 speakers combine with the 13-speaker Panoramic Soundbar to create a wall of sound. Optimising the flow of soundwaves across the longitudinal interior architecture and surrounding occupants. With an expansive field of powerful, immersive audio. Years of testing, tuning and refinement ensure the Jaguar Immersive Sound System works in harmony with the interior – without compromise.

Sensory Audio adds a further dimension

Sensory Audio adds a further dimension for the driver and front passenger. Individually controlled, it creates a physical connection to the music through the seat. Ranging from a gentle sense of depth at lower intensity levels to a more expressive sensation when desired. Always precisely synchronised with the music. Through Jaguar’s intuitive audio controls. Listeners can further personalise the Panoramic Soundbar, Sensory Audio and hidden cabin speakers to suit their mood, preference and journey.

Created with Meridian, drawing on more than 50 years of audio innovation. The 38-speaker Jaguar Immersive Sound System is an original audio experience built to challenge convention. Engineered with a deep understanding of the complexities of human hearing. It brings the artist’s work to life exactly as intended, deepening emotion and connection through sound.

Intelligently connected

Jaguar Infotainment is fast and improves over time with Software Over The Air updates. Wireless Apple CarPlayTM and Wireless Android Auto are standard. Wireless device charging for two devices. A built-in 5G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices[12].

To keep drivers and passengers entertained, a comprehensive Integrated App library. Available with the Online Pack[13], supports a range of audio streaming, gaming. Point of interest and productivity apps[14] such as SpotifyTM and Amazon Music[15]. All apps are optimised for in-vehicle use. Including video streaming functionality on the front row screen while stationary, for example when charging.

Intelligent convenience is built-in to Type 01’s connected navigation. Connected Navigation Pro provides Real Time Traffic and Online Routing. To make regular journeys simple and efficient. Jaguar Route Planning helps ensure energy is optimised for every journey. With accurate range prediction for complete confidence on the move.

The right mood

Type 01 clients can customise the cabin environment with preset moods to meet their needs: Comfort, Energise and Custom. These activate a series of technologies including ambient lighting and the massage seats. A fragrance diffuser gives clients a choice of scents to further tailor the cabin. While the virtual sunshade for the Switchable Panoramic Roof shades the interior when needed.

From the cabin air to help keep the driver alert. With a Purge function that freshens the cabin before a journey.

Throughout, the five-channel Active Road Noise Cancellation maintains the serenity in the cabin. By minimising road noise for a near-silent drive, using the speakers in the seat headrests.

VW ID.4 Elecrtric SUV – November 2022 details

ID.4 electric SUV – Volkswagen has welcomed to Australia the first examples of the award-winning 2021 World Car of the Year, the Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV, ahead of a register-your-interest waitlist for customers going live by Christmas.

ID.4 electric SUVs arrive in Australia

The two ID.4 electric SUVs arrive in Australia in overseas-market specifications – the 150kW ID.4 Pro Performance with 522km range*, and the 125kW ID.4 Pure Performance with 345km range* and sharing the Pro’s 310Nm.

A fully loaded ID.4 Pro Performance will most closely reflect Volkswagen Australia’s planned launch specification, while the ID.4 Pure Performance also takes on a key role during discussions with fleet and government agencies.

Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles Michal Szaniecki said “the clear target is to have the ID.4, along with the ID.5, in Australian driveways by late 2023.”

“Strategically the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 represent the most sizeable opportunity for Volkswagen Australia in countless years,” he said.

“The ID.4 will not set out to charge customers a premium for being a style statement or shortchange practicalities in any way for being electric. We know that Australians most love medium SUVs, and the ID.4 combines this versatile bodystyle with enviable Volkswagen engineering including a long range.

“The ID.4 will bring electric performance to a broad customer base with target pricing similar to our most in-demand SUV, the Tiguan 162TSI R-Line. Arriving at the same time will be the coupe-style ID.5 with pricing similar to a Tiguan R, enabling customers to alternatively pick an even more design-focused BEV.”

ID.4 electric SUVs BEV MEB

The Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 are produced on a dedicated, modular battery electric vehicle (BEV) architecture known as MEB.

By producing the ID.4 and ID.5 on a dedicated platform it allows designers and engineers to minimise the front and rear overhangs of the vehicle. This ensures that more of the ID.4’s 4584mm body length goes into maximising cabin and boot space, which closely mirrors or exceeds that of the Tiguan SUV.

Rear seat space more closely resembles that of the larger Touareg SUV, with USB-C ports and three-zone climate control available. The family-friendly 543 litre boot volume can be expanded to 1,575L with the rear backrest folded.

The MEB platform also ensures the higher kerb weight inherent to BEVs is placed more beneficially. For steering, ride and handling qualities than in an equivalent internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

Model range

The ID.4 Pro Performance and ID.4 Pure Performance utilise an 82kWh and 55kWh battery package respectively. Both are placed ‘flat pack’ under the central part of the chassis. For more even weight distribution and to lower the centre of gravity.

Targeted at singles, couples, couples-plus-pet, families and empty nesters. The ID.4 Pro Performance’s long range will be complemented by up to 125kW DC fast charging. Enabling charging from 0% in 33 minutes (to 80%) and 42min (to 100%). The ID.4 Pure Performance’s 110kW DC fast charging is quicker by 7min and 10min respectively.

The Volkswagen ID.4 is rear-wheel drive and uses a multi-link rear suspension setup for the ride comfort and control typified by a Tiguan, or Golf. It is also rear engined, enabling 0-100km/h performance of between 8.5 seconds (Pro Performance) and 9.0sec (Pure Performance).

With specification still to be locked in for Australia. Highlights of the Pro Performance above the Pure Performance in overseas specification include.

19-inch alloy wheels (vs 18s),

progressive steering,

area view camera,

augmented reality head up display,

12in infotainment (vs 10in) and

450W 7-speaker audio.

* Range derived from WLTP testing, not confirmed for Australian specification. Factors including but not limited to driving style, road and traffic conditions. Environmental influences, vehicle condition and accessories fitted. Will in practice in the real world lead to figures which generally differ from those advertised. Advertised figures are meant for comparison amongst vehicles only.

The four-strong ASX VR-e model lineup comprises three rear-wheel models: LS, ASPIRE, and EXCEED, and is topped by the dual-motor AWD GSR.

“The ASX VR-e is part of our commitment to deliver customers a range of powertrains to meet ever-growing mobility requirements across Australia,” said MMAL CEO, Shunichi Kihara.

“It is a return to the BEV segment for Mitsubishi Motors, who pioneered with the i-MiEV over 15 years ago, and is thoroughly modern.

“ASX VR-e combines unique Pininfarina styling with seamless BEV performance and zero-emissions driving. It brings Mitsubishi Motors’ adventurous spirit into a new realm, with an engaging everyday driving experience,” he said.

Expect to see the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e in showrooms in late-2026.

Seamless performance, zero emissions

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e range features a 57.7kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. The single motor that powers the rear-drive LS, ASPIRE and EXCEED develops 171kW and 350Nm of instant torque. This is enough to power the single motor variants from standstill to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds.

For those in search for even greater power and performance, the GSR’s adds a second electric motor to the front axle, essentially doubling these outputs to 342kW and 700Nm respectively, completing the zero-100km/h sprint in just 3.9 seconds. This makes the ASX VR-e GSR the fastest-accelerating Mitsubishi ever officially sold in Australia.

The ASX VR-e also features eco, comfort and sport drive modes. Each mode changes power delivery and throttle response, with the GSR also altering its power delivery in sport mode (from 50/50 to 30 front, 70 rear, except on wide open throttle).

Steering effort is also selectable three ways: light, standard and heavy.

Sleek Pininfarina design cuts through the air

Designed by legendary Italian styling house Pininfarina, the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e cuts a distinctive silhouette.

Its sleek design not only stands out: it increases aerodynamic efficiency.

The frontal design features a ‘S-Duct’. This device takes air through a lower front bumper opening, moving upwards inside the duct to exit across the upper frontal surface. Air Curtains also shape the air around the vehicle, with Active Grille Shutters further directing airflow for precisely matched cooling flow.

Flush-fitting door handles and uniquely designed alloy wheels further progress ASX VR-e’s sleek, aerodynamic profile.

A modern, functional and interactive cabin space

ASX VR-e’s tech-centric sophistication continues in its immersive user interface, housed by a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen and 9.2-inch digital driver display – all standard across the range.

The floating infotainment touchscreen manages an array of key vehicle functions, with clean visual animations depicting vehicle status, airflow direction, and more. Widgets can be freely adjusted across the screen to create a personalised interface.

Supporting this functionality is an array of physical control switches for key actions including climate controls, hazard switch and front/rear demister functions. A ‘favourites’ switch is also customisable to your preferred action.

A natural language climate-control system can also respond to commands, such as “I am hot”, and adjust temperatures accordingly.

The interior look and feel can be further customised with an available 64-colour ambient lighting selection.

And as a Software Defined Vehicle, over-the-air updates allow the system to continuously gain new capabilities over time, ensuring the ASX VR-e stays thoroughly up-to-date. Connected Car Services will also be available from launch.

Mitsubishi ASX VR-e – details June 2026

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e represents a new era of electrification within the Mitsubishi Motors range in Australia, leveraging the brand’s strong partnership with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Co. Ltd (Foxtron) to deliver a sophisticated, tech-driven battery electric vehicle (BEV) to the market.

This new model carries the ‘ASX’ (Active Sports Crossover) name – one that has a long-established presence on Australian roads as a popular compact SUV. The ‘VR-e’ designation is a nod to the legendary Galant VR-4, one of Mitsubishi Motors’ iconic high-performance sports sedans.

ASX VR-e captures the essence of its namesake through its sporty performance and responsive handling – all made possible through extensive local testing and tuning by Mitsubishi Motors global and regional teams.

Underpinned by a sleek, Pininfarina-designed vehicle platform. It exhibits signature Mitsubishi styling elements through the front and rear fascia, wheels and interior trim.

ASX VR-e’s exterior design incorporates several key features to achieve optimal aerodynamic efficiency. Including a distinctive S-Duct to channel airflow from the centre of the front bumper over the hood surface. And active grille shutters to reduce drag according to driving conditions.

Mitsubishi ASX VR-e models

The All-New vehicle will debut in Australia under four model variants: LS, ASPIRE, EXCEED and GSR.

“ASX VR-e marks a significant milestone in our refreshed Mitsubishi range as the first BEV since the i-MiEV . Australia’s first mass-produced electric vehicle,” said MMAL CEO, Shunichi Kihara.

“The new Mitsubishi ASX VR-e continues this path of innovation. With an immersive infotainment system, bold design and excellent electric driving performance.

“It joins an evolving multi-powertrain vehicle lineup designed and tuned with Australian lifestyles in mind. As part of our Momentum 2030 plan – which will see the electrification of new models in the years to come.”

Honda Super-ONE is the next expression of that idea, and represents something truly different for Australians.

The ever-changing automotive market has a plethora of EVs that tick the boxes. They come in all shapes and sizes, with reasonable range, comfortable cabins, and enough tech to keep everyone happy. But there’s something missing. Fun.

Dedicated to bringing Joy to customers and Joy in the development of something unique, our engineers and designers set out to find that fun and answer the question: can a small, affordable EV make you smile every time you get behind the wheel?

In the all-new Honda Super-ONE, we have our answer. It’s compact, it’s clever with space in the way only a Honda can be, and it has a genuine sense of playfulness baked into how it drives, sounds and feels. A dedicated BOOST mode, a simulated gear shift, a note that builds as you accelerate. Is it all essential? No. Will it put a smile on your face? Absolutely. And that’s the point.

Honda Super-ONE EOI

At the time of launch, we have seen this car attract the most customer Expressions of Interest in Honda Australia history (almost 7,000), with our stock scheduled for delivery in 2026 selling out within hours of pre-orders going live. Needless to say, there is an appetite for this car.

What’s more, Honda Super-ONE also arrives at an important time for us. Honda Australia has spent the last year building real momentum. Prelude brought the sports coupe back, our hybrid range keeps getting stronger, and now we are giving Australians an entry point into electric that’s actually fun to drive. It shows what electrification looks like when it’s built around the driver first, and it signals our intent to keep bringing genuinely exciting product to Australian roads as our line-up grows.

Global Launch of FREELANDER Brand

Tuesday 29 September 2026 was the Global launch of the FREELANDER brand at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi. The UAE is the first international market following the release of the brand in China on 3 September 2026. FREELANDER marked the beginning of its international journey and introduced its new global brand philosophy, Beyond the Legend. More than simply reviving a familiar name, Beyond the Legend reflects FREELANDER’s ambition to take its British heritage forward for a new generation, combining authentic British design with advanced Chinese intelligent electrified technology.

As FREELANDER expands globally, Australia and New Zealand have been identified as priority right-hand-drive markets. For Australia, Beyond the Legend represents a new expression of modern luxury, designed around the way people move, live and explore today.

Kym Mellow appointed Head of FREELANDER Australia & New Zealand

Bringing extensive experience in the Australian and New Zealand automotive industry, most recently in executive roles with Inchcape Australasia and Mazda Australia. Kym will be responsible for leading the establishment and development of the FREELANDER business, including overall brand strategy, market entry, sales, marketing, aftersales, product and network development.

“FREELANDER brings together JLR’s British design and all-terrain heritage with the best of Chery’s technology, scale and supply chain,” said Kym Mellow, Head of FREELANDER Australia & New Zealand.

“For Australians, FREELANDER has always been an invitation to explore more of this country. We’re reimagining it as a premium, technology-led brand built for gravel tracks and city streets alike, and we’re investing in the Dealer partnerships and local team to make every part of ownership live up to that promise.”

FREELANDER 8 leads the charge

The FREELANDER 8 will be the first FREELANDER model to arrive in Australia. Since its global debut, the premium SUV has gone on sale in China, where it attracted more than 10,000 pre-orders within 48 hours of opening.

Australian specifications, pricing and launch timing will be confirmed closer to launch.

Where the FREELANDER competes

FREELANDER will compete in Australia’s premium upper-large SUV segment, offering a new choice for buyers who want British design, advanced technology and genuine all-terrain capability.

For buyers who want freedom: FREELANDER targets families and adventurers who move between city streets, regional roads, and gravel tracks, and who expect premium comfort in all of them.

A premium upper-large SUV: Measuring over 5.1 metres in length, the FREELANDER 8 is an upper-large family SUV. Offering five- and six-seat configurations. It will compete with premium large SUVs from established European and Japanese brands.

Premium design and technology in one: JLR’s British design and Chery’s technology give FREELANDER a distinctive position in a segment long led by traditional premium brands.

A market shaped by SUVs: Australians bought 848,920 new vehicles in the first eight months of 2026. Up 2.0% on the same period last year, and 65% of them were SUVs.

Built for the electrified shift: Australians are moving quickly to new energy vehicles. Battery electric vehicles made up 18% of new-vehicle sales from January to August 2026. And in August they outsold petrol and diesel vehicles for the first time. Plug-in hybrid sales reached 75,206 over the same period. Designed from the ground up for the new energy era.

“The large premium SUV segment is where Australian families spend on the vehicle that does it all,” said Kym Mellow. “FREELANDER gives those buyers something new. British design, advanced electrified technology and real all-terrain ability. Backed by a premium ownership experience. We’re introducing a new expression of modern luxury one that reshapes how people move and explore. ”

Building the local team

FREELANDER Australia is now actively recruiting key senior leadership roles, with appointments to be made in the near future.

Strong partnerships with local Dealers

FREELANDER will reach Australian and New Zealand customers through a network of recognised and established local Dealerships. The brand will work closely with its Dealer partners on premium showrooms. Trained sales and service staff, and parts and after-sales support in metropolitan and selected regional areas. Dealer appointments will be announced in the lead-up to launch.

Built by the Chery–JLR joint venture

Produced by Chery Jaguar Land Rover, a 50:50 joint venture between Chery Automobile and JLR. The partners formed in 2012 with a US$2.78 billion investment. Since 2014 it has built Land Rover and Jaguar models. Including the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

In June 2024 JLR licensed the name to the joint venture to create a stand-alone brand. Each partner brings its strengths:

JLR: British design, premium brand values and all-terrain heritage

Chery: electric and hybrid technology, engineering and a global supply chain

Vehicles are built at the joint venture’s plant in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, China. The first FREELANDER 8 left the line on 30 July 2026. The brand has more than 5,000 staff across five global hubs. Covering design, R&D, manufacturing and international operations.

Global momentum: the UAE comes first

Australia and New Zealand join a fast-growing international rollout. On 20 September 2026, FREELANDER named the UAE as its first international market. It appointed Al Tayer Motors (Dubai and the Northern Emirates) and Premier Motors (Abu Dhabi) as distributors. With 32 sales and service sites and three flagship showrooms planned. The FREELANDER 8 completed regional road testing across desert. Coastal and urban conditions ahead of yesterday’s global launch at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi.

FREELANDER plans six models over the next five years.

Subaru Australia showcases its largest-ever electrification range at Everything Electric

Subaru Australia will showcase its largest-ever electrified vehicle range at Everything Electric Sydney this weekend, highlighting a significant year of growth and investment in the brand’s electrification strategy.

Taking place at Sydney Showground from 18–20 September, Everything Electric will give visitors the opportunity to get up close with Subaru’s expanded range of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), with the all-new Subaru Uncharted, Solterra and Trailseeker all on display.

Alongside its BEV range, Subaru will also showcase the Forester Strong Hybrid, demonstrating the brand’s broader approach to electrification and giving visitors the opportunity to experience both hybrid and battery electric technology in Subaru SUVs.

Together, the four vehicles represent a significant expansion of Subaru’s electrified offering in Australia, while retaining the characteristics that have long defined the brand, including Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, confident handling and capability across a wide range of road and weather conditions.

“The last 12 months have been a significant period of product growth for Subaru in Australia,” said Blair Read, Managing Director, Inchcape Australasia.

Three All Electric models in the model range

“We’ve launched two all-new BEV models with Trailseeker and Uncharted, expanding the range to three electrified options across small, medium and large SUVs. And all three electric models have the same Subaru engineering philosophy Australian drivers have loved for decades.”

For Subaru, the expansion of its electrified range is about more than simply adding new powertrains. It is about bringing the characteristics customers expect from a Subaru into a new generation of vehicles.

The Subaru Uncharted brings electric performance and compact SUV versatility to the range, with 252kW of power, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 211mm of ground clearance1. The Solterra continues Subaru’s all-electric offering in the medium SUV segment, while the Trailseeker extends the BEV range into a larger, all-terrain format, combining 280kW of power, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 211mm of ground clearance1.

The Forester Strong Hybrid takes a different approach to electrification, pairing a 2.5-litre Boxer engine with a 90kW electric motor and 1.1kWh battery to produce 145kW of combined power. The no-plug-in hybrid system can also drive on electric power at low speeds, while retaining Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

Together, the vehicles demonstrate how Subaru is expanding its electrified offering across different vehicle sizes and customer needs, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to electrification.

And at Everything Electric, visitors will be able to experience the Subaru difference from behind the wheel.

Experience the Subaru difference from behind the wheel.

Test drives will be available throughout the weekend, giving customers the opportunity to experience Subaru’s new BEVs on the road and discover first-hand how instant electric performance, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Subaru’s approach to vehicle dynamics come together.

“You can read all the numbers and specifications, but getting behind the wheel is where the difference really becomes clear,” Mr. Read said.

“That’s what makes Everything Electric such a great opportunity. Customers can see our three BEVs side-by-side, along with the Forester Strong Hybrid, and then experience what each one is like to drive.”

Everything Electric Sydney will run from 18–20 September at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, with Subaru showcasing its expanded electrified range and offering customers the opportunity to experience its BEVs behind the wheel.

GAC Australia has offered a glimpse into the future of its expanding range in the Australian market, following the unveiling of the GAC S7 at Everything Electric Sydney.

A model that will enter global right-hand-drive production during the second half of 2027, GAC is proactively looking to add the premium plug-in-hybrid SUV to its local lineup, with this weekend’s event offering the prime opportunity for prospective customers to offer feedback well in advance of a potential future debut.

Aries Zhao, CEO, GAC Australia said, “The GAC S7 presents another exciting opportunity in GAC’s journey in Australia. The S7 allows GAC to compete in the highly competitive Large SUV segment and complements our existing range of offerings. To do so with our innovative PHEV technology also supports the significant demand for flexibility in how we power our vehicles. Whether that be full-electric for short to medium trips around town, and the capability to take on bigger interstate road trips with ease”.

GAC S7 features AWD power delivery through two electric motors

The S7 features AWD power delivery through two electric motors – one front and one rear – producing 170kW/220Nm and 80kW/250Nm respectively. Paired with a 36.3kWh Magazine Battery, the S7 can deliver up to 150km1 of pure electric range for daily driving. While a 1.5T petrol engine delivers added flexibility for longer road trips. Thanks to a combined range of up to 1,020km2 (International specifications referenced).

Alongside the S7, GAC showcased the AION UT. A compact hatch that recently won the Torino Automotive Design Award for Exterior Design. And the brand’s mid-sized SUV, AION V. Both models featured a raft of accessories. Ranging from exterior body kits that deliver a more distinctive look, to lifestyle-focused offerings including a full camping setup.

Completing the range on display was the M8 PHEV. Australia’s only plug-in hybrid MPV priced from $76,590. It is the perfect model for executives and fleets. Featuring some of the most luxurious central captain’s armchair seats in the sector. Riding on electromagnetic suspension. Cosseted by acoustic glass and with a range of 1,032km fully charged and fuelled. It has the capability to stay on the move for extensive chauffeuring duties at a much more attainable price point.

Aries Zhao added, “Everything Electric is one of the leading shows for electrified vehicles here in Australia. And it was imperative that GAC is represented here. To showcase the exceptional new models that we offer to Australian consumers. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our stand throughout the remainder of the weekend. And encourage their thoughts on the S7 and our accessories range for both AION UT and AION V”.

Everything Electric Sydney takes place across 18-20 September at Sydney Showgrounds with GAC Australia located at Stand 012.
